Rumored Marvel Phase 7 Slate Lists Avengers: Judgment Day and a Scarlet Witch Movie
A leaked post Secret Wars lineup from a newer insider includes new films, series and special presentations, with parts of it backed by other insiders
A rumored slate for Marvel's Phase 7, the lineup that would follow Avengers: Secret Wars, lists several new projects we haven't talked about before, including a solo Scarlet Witch movie. It also includes a team film called The Annihilators and an Avengers movie titled Judgment Day, which lines up with something another insider has said before. If this is truly what's coming, I think Marvel fans are going to be very excited.
The leak comes from a relatively new insider. Other reliable insiders have backed up some of what this insider has said, including some of the new projects on the list, and that is why I'm taking it seriously. Still, take it with a grain of salt. It's a rumor for now. The list covers movies, shows and special presentations, and many of the movies on it, along with one of the shows, are already confirmed.
Iceman and Beast are reportedly in the X-Men movie, and Ryan Gosling's Ghost Rider is on the slate
We already know the X-Men movie is coming, so I won't spend too long on it. What I will say is that many insiders online are indicating that Iceman and Beast have been cast. The word from those insiders is that the two characters weren't announced because the actors weren't locked down yet, but they are still going to be in the movie.
That fits with what came out of D23, which appears to have been everything Marvel already had locked in with contracts. That makes perfect sense to me. So Iceman and Beast are reportedly going to be in the movie, which is great, because we're getting the First Class lineup with some other mutants and X-Men involved.
Ghost Rider is also on the slate, and we already know that one is coming, with Ryan Gosling playing the character. I think it's going to be a good time, and I think it's going to be a great movie.
Black Panther 3 could be the place for Storm to arrive
Black Panther 3 is on the list too. We already know a new Black Panther is coming, and that should be coming in Avengers: Secret Wars. We shouldn't have to wait for Black Panther 3 to get that.
One thing I will say about this film: we've been hearing a lot that X-Men who aren't introduced in the X-Men movie could be introduced in other MCU movies or projects, so Marvel is saving some characters for elsewhere. When most people hear Black Panther 3 and an X-Men character being introduced, the name that comes to mind is Storm.
That's because of her connection with T'Challa in the comics. They meet when they're young and eventually marry, and then Avengers vs. X-Men and the destruction of Wakanda lead to their divorce. Marvel probably isn't going to do all of that page for page, but I think the relationship between T'Challa and Storm should happen.
Nova is confirmed as a movie, not a series
Nova is confirmed, and for those who ask every time it comes up, it is a movie. The head of Marvel Television had confirmed that they were working on a Nova series, but Kevin Feige then confirmed to Brandon Davis in an interview that it's a movie now. That confirmation came straight from the president of Marvel Studios himself.
We haven't heard anything about who is going to play Richard Rider, who we presume will be the Nova in the film. But the project is happening.
A solo Scarlet Witch movie is one of the newly listed projects
This is where the newly listed projects begin, and the first is a Scarlet Witch film. I think a solo Scarlet Witch movie makes sense after Secret Wars, maybe one that gives her a new family in the MCU. For a while in the comics, Magneto was said to be the father of the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. That was eventually retconned, but I always liked it, and I think the MCU should do it.
There were rumors for a while that Avengers: Doomsday might show another Wanda whose father is Magneto, and maybe another Quicksilver in the X-Men universe. I thought that would have been cool. It doesn't sound like that was true, or they might have changed it. We have heard recently that the reshoots for Avengers: Doomsday changed some things, so we'll wait and see.
A solo Scarlet Witch movie coming after Secret Wars would make a lot of sense to me, because we already know she's going to play a big role in Secret Wars. So it could be happening, and I hope it does. I think Marvel realizes that many fans want her to have her own true solo movie where she's not the villain.
Ghost Rider is now said to lead The Midnight Suns
The Midnight Suns is also on the slate, and we know that one is coming. Originally, Blade was supposed to come first and then recruit people for the team. We saw that begin in the Eternals post credit scene, where we hear Blade's voice talking to Dane Whitman, the Black Knight. Dane was supposed to be part of the Midnight Suns, and Blade was recruiting him.
Of course, that's not happening now. What we're hearing instead is that Ghost Rider is going to be the leader of the Midnight Suns, which makes a lot of sense to me.
Shang-Chi 2 and another Fantastic Four film round out the movies we know about
Shang-Chi 2 is confirmed and happening. It was supposed to happen a while ago, but it's confirmed. There was even a Ten Rings Easter egg in the latest episodes of VisionQuest, so maybe there are more ties coming for Shang-Chi there as well.
A Fantastic Four film is also listed, and that was discussed a while ago. We know Marvel is going to give us another Fantastic Four movie. The Fantastic Four team we have right now is the main Fantastic Four team going forward after Secret Wars, so we know that's coming.
The Annihilators could unite cosmic heroes against Annihilus
The next two entries are very interesting, and I like them both. The first is The Annihilators. We've heard this team could be wild. It sounds like it could be a team made up of the Guardians of the Galaxy and other cosmic characters, like Star-Lord and maybe Nova, coming together to go up against Annihilus.
It's a crossover, a come together film. Depending on how Marvel handles it, it could be huge. The Annihilation Wave was enormous in the comics, and Annihilus is a ferocious villain there. When his forces arrive in the comics, they destroy millions of planets. I hope Marvel does it.
We've heard for a while that Annihilus is going to be introduced. Marvel could do that in the Nova movie, teasing him and then using a post credit scene to show he's coming back with his giant army. Star-Lord, Nova, maybe some of the Guardians and other characters such as Captain Marvel going up against Annihilus would be something to see.
Avengers: Judgment Day may bring back Arishem and the AXE event
Then there's a big one, which lines up with something another insider has said before: Avengers: Judgment Day. I believe Judgment Day refers to the Celestial from the end of Eternals, Arishem, returning to judge Earth, since he said he would return for judgment.
In the comics, this is the AXE event, short for Avengers, X-Men, Eternals. A Celestial comes to judge Earth and destroy it. The Avengers start talking to the Eternals and the X-Men, they all fight, and then they come together to try to stop Earth from being destroyed. It's a cool concept.
Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus has stated that the AXE event is going to happen in the MCU. So this could be the big Avengers crossover movie that the end of the phase builds to, which I think is a good idea. I don't think we should have to wait another six or seven years, or however long, for another Avengers movie after Secret Wars.
The series list includes Luke Cage and Iron Fist, The Champions and Strange Academy
On the series side, the insider lists the Zodiac series, which Marvel has already announced. There's also a Luke Cage and Iron Fist series. That's interesting, because Marvel has told us Daredevil: Born Again season 3 is the final season. I do believe Daredevil is moving on to the movies, but we'll wait and see. Marvel has publicly revealed that Luke Cage and Iron Fist are coming back in season 3, so giving them their own show afterward makes sense.
A Champions series is listed as well. We've been hearing about it for a long time, and it seems like it's going to happen as part of a big plan. It seems the Champions are the MCU's version of the Young Avengers. They're expected to have a modest role in Doomsday and a much bigger role in Secret Wars, so a series afterward makes a lot of sense to me.
Strange Academy was already confirmed and then put on hold indefinitely. Marvel had been working on it before plans shifted, when Doom became the main villain and Majors was out. Some projects changed and some were put on hold. Now that Marvel has a good idea of what it wants to do next, reviving it makes sense, and I believe it's back, which I think would be cool.
The last series is Steel and Shadow, pairing Kitty Pryde with Colossus. I like that a lot. I think it's a good combo and would be cool.
Nightcrawler, Man-Thing and Jessica Jones are listed as special presentations
Finally, there are three special presentations. The first is Nightcrawler, and another insider has said they heard the same thing. Responding to the news, that insider said: "True, it is true. A Nightcrawler special presentation is in works." The insider behind the slate has also said in the past that Marvel has found, or is looking for, a new actor to play Nightcrawler, not for Doomsday or Secret Wars but for Phase 7.
Man-Thing is listed too. We already got Werewolf by Night, so maybe this picks up from there.
The third is a Jessica Jones special presentation, which I think many fans would like. I expected her to have more screen time and more fighting in Daredevil: Born Again season 2. It was awesome to see her return, but I'd like more. We already got a Punisher special presentation, so doing Jessica Jones makes sense, as does doing Iron Fist and Luke Cage. I think Marvel has realized fans love the Netflix shows, and giving them a revival in the MCU before having them show up in movies is the best move.
Other insiders have backed up a decent amount of what's new on this list, and much of the rest is already confirmed. We could be looking at what Phase 7 is going to be, though Marvel could change things. Even if half of this is true, I think it's going to be pretty cool.
