Andrew Garfield Reportedly Set to Return as Spider-Man in Multiple Sony Films

A stunt double's Instagram exchange has fueled talk of an Amazing Spider-Man 3, a Venom crossover, and a Spider-Gwen film

Andrew Garfield may not be finished playing Spider-Man, and from what I am hearing, he could be coming back not once but across multiple different films. Reports suggest his next appearance would not be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe itself but in the separate Sony universe that includes Venom, Morbius and Kraven the Hunter, though he could still cross paths with the MCU from time to time.

Tom Holland's confirmed new trilogy sets the stage for more Spider-Man news

Sony and Marvel Studios have already confirmed that there is going to be another Spider-Man trilogy taking place in the MCU, with Tom Holland getting three new films. Anyone who saw Spider-Man: No Way Home and how it ended has an idea of where things could go for Peter Parker next, and that is exciting news on its own since we all want more from Tom Holland.

But we also want more from Andrew Garfield, and it is looking like that is exactly what we are going to get. Even with Spider-Man: No Way Home already out in theaters, the Spider-Man conversation was far from over heading into the new year, because there is more Spider-Man material reportedly on the way.

Reports point to Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire returning for multiple films

It has been reported by a few accounts, including Daniel RPK, an account that got a lot right about Spider-Man: No Way Home, that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire are going to be returning for not one but multiple different films. Right now there is a lot of talk about what these films could actually be.

It seems like people have narrowed it down, at least for Andrew Garfield, to three projects. Rumors that Garfield could finish his Spider-Man trilogy with Amazing Spider-Man 3 have been going around a lot, and there was a bit more evidence to support that rumor at the time.

An Instagram exchange with Garfield's stunt double seems to confirm his return

The big news is that Andrew Garfield's stunt double seemingly confirmed that he is indeed returning for Amazing Spider-Man 3. On Instagram, somebody congratulated Garfield's stunt double on the supposed announcement that he is going to be returning for Amazing Spider-Man 3. The comment said, "congratulations on getting the call to work on TASM 3," and the stunt double replied, "thank you so much."

That obviously seems like a very big confirmation. However, there is a possibility that the stunt double simply got the call to return for a future project and could be assuming that it is Amazing Spider-Man 3. He later backtracked, saying he was kidding, presumably because he is not supposed to say that if it is indeed true, which reads like him trying to cover up for what he said.

Even with that walk-back, it does seem very clear that he is going to be returning to work as Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield's stunt double, in some way, shape or form in the future, which seemingly confirms that Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man is not done. Whether that is in Amazing Spider-Man 3 or in another movie, perhaps Venom, remains to be seen.

Three rumored projects: Amazing Spider-Man 3, a Venom crossover, and a Spider-Gwen film

In the post-credits scenes for both Spider-Man: No Way Home and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, there were teases that Spider-Man and Venom would eventually meet. Since Spider-Man: No Way Home went in the direction it did, with Peter now doing something very different than he has before, it would make sense that it would be Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man who eventually goes up against Venom rather than Tom Holland's version.

One of the same accounts also said that Sony is interested in making a Spider-Gwen movie. Gwen died in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but with the multiverse now established as a real concept in this universe, perhaps Andrew Garfield's Peter could get a happy ending after all. There could be a universe where Gwen is Spider-Gwen but lost her own Peter Parker, allowing her to meet up with Garfield's Peter, who lost his Gwen, and the two could end up together, which would be a fitting ending for both characters.

Regardless of which of these three projects it ends up being, it does seem like Andrew Garfield is set to return and play the Amazing Spider-Man at least one more time, whether that is Amazing Spider-Man 3, a Spider-Gwen film, or a film opposite Venom.

Which of these would you want to see for Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man, or would you rather see him return in something new entirely?
