Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Leak Ends on Doom's 'One Day You Will Forgive Me', and It's the Perfect Line
A leaked description of the first Doomsday trailer reportedly opens on Doom's throne, brings Thor face to face with Steve Rogers, and closes on the Sentinels and one line that goes really hard.
A leaked description of the first official Avengers: Doomsday trailer reportedly ends with Doctor Doom saying "One day you will forgive me," and everyone seems to agree that line goes really hard. I agree as well. That was at least what I had seen so far when I wrote this in July 2026.
At that point San Diego Comic-Con 2026 was less than two weeks away, and that was where the full trailer was supposed to arrive. Below I go through the description beat by beat, then look at what people made of it.
The Doomsday trailer sounds like a teaser, and it opens on Doom in Latveria
Going by the description, this sounds like a teaser, which is typically what Marvel does. Spider-Man recently skipped the teaser stage and went straight to a full trailer, but that was Sony and Marvel together. Doomsday is fully Marvel Studios, so they have full say over the marketing, and I imagined they would give us a teaser first.
The trailer reportedly opens on Doctor Doom sitting on a throne in Latveria. That makes sense, because we got a great look at Doom's throne at the Shanghai Expo, and it looks really awesome. I like that a movie called Doomsday starts with Doom. I don't know whether a lot of people expected much Doom to be shown, but I'm glad we are seeing this. It might not be him fully; he could be seen from far away. Either way, starting with Doom is great.
A painting of Doom's wife and son could carry a bitter twist
Doom then walks through his castle, and a massive painting of his wife and son is shown on the wall, reportedly establishing him immediately as a ruler with personal stakes. This part could be a little bitter. We have heard that at some point the movie will show Doom losing his wife and son in some sort of accident relating to an incursion that Steve Rogers caused.
So I don't know whether the painting shows his late wife and son, meaning they are already dead, or whether that loss happens later in the movie. We'll have to wait and see. We do know Doom is going to meet with the Fantastic Four, and that will most likely be where he tells them what happened, that incursions are coming and that they have to stop them.
Thor arrives with the Fantastic Four as both sets of new Avengers meet
Next, the description says Thor arrives with the Fantastic Four to meet the new Avengers. Their ship flies into Avengers Tower, and the team gets acquainted for the first time. We have heard that Thor's daughter, Love, who was brought back to life by Eternity and has some of Eternity's powers, senses that something is happening. So Thor and Love return to Earth, and that is why Thor is meeting with the Avengers once again.
It sounds like right when he gets there, the Fantastic Four ship comes into their universe and meets both groups of new Avengers, including Sam Wilson's team. There is also reportedly a shot inside the Baxter Building with the X-Men present, which is very interesting. We do know the story will go back and forth a lot, and we have heard that out of the three universes, most of the film takes place in the Fantastic Four's. With Reed building things and Doom coming from that universe, that makes sense. Some X-Men in the Baxter Building sounds like it's going to look really cool.
Steve Rogers summons Mjolnir to prove himself to Thor
Steve meets Thor, and Thor doesn't believe it's him. Steve summons Mjolnir to prove his identity, and Thor's response is: that's impossible. This is what was shown with the CinemaCon trailer: Thor says it's impossible, and Steve summons Mjolnir to prove he really is the true Steve Rogers that Thor knows. I think people are going to like this.
Steve tells Yelena that Natasha was family
Steve then meets Yelena and tells her that Natasha was family to him, which means Yelena is family to him too. I was wondering whether they would get a decent bond in this movie, and how much Black Widow would be mentioned, if at all. It sounds like she is, which I really like.
We still don't know if Scarlett Johansson will return to play Black Widow or a variant. It would have to be a variant because Natasha died, and we haven't heard anything about her returning. Everybody else is coming back, so I assume she would be as well, but we'll wait and see.
Yelena versus Yelena gives a first look at Mystique's transformation
The description then lists Yelena versus Yelena, with Mystique's transformation shown on screen for the first time. Interestingly, it doesn't mention much more about the Avengers versus the X-Men, so maybe this is our tiny little taste of that. Again, based on everything here, this is a teaser, but we're getting to the best parts.
Reed Richards confronts Doom as the conflict begins
Reed Richards confronts Doom directly, practically yelling, "Answer me." This is where the trailer starts to show the conflict and that Doom is not necessarily a good guy, which I believe they have to do. They won't reveal everything, though, because it sounds like for the first good half of the movie they will make it seem like Doom really isn't a villain. But we all know, right? It's Doomsday.
Loki in his TVA suit visits Steve's house
Loki reportedly appears in his TVA suit inside Steve's house, and the description says this confirms that Loki visits Steve directly. That lines up with what we have been hearing: after the end of Avengers: Endgame, Steve goes back in time to be with Peggy, and at some point Loki shows up and says he has to get him out because the TVA is going to prune that timeline.
From what we've heard, this is not the Loki from the end of season two. If he is from season two, it is from before he takes the throne, so either a season one Loki or one from before the very end of season two. In other words, not a Loki who is attached to Yggdrasil and holding the multiverse together. Time works very differently, and this would be set back in time anyway. So the trailer is basically going to show that Loki is the reason Steve Rogers, Peggy and their son end up in the Fantastic Four's universe.
Doom stops Stormbreaker with a single movement of his hand
Then come the action shots. Thor throws Stormbreaker at Doom, and Doom stops it with a single movement of his hand. Based on what we heard from people who saw what was shown at CinemaCon, which was not nearly the same as this trailer, it wasn't Thor throwing the axe. It was Thor jumping up and striking down at Doom with it, and Doom simply blocking it with one hand. Some people said he even blocked it with two fingers.
So the full force of Thor comes down with Stormbreaker, and Doom just shrugs it off. That shows Doom's power and makes it look like he is the bad guy.
The Sentinels and "One day you will forgive me" close the trailer
The final action shot is reportedly Doom controlling the Sentinels. I hoped they would show the leaked scene we have seen: the X-Men and the Avengers together, Doom raising the Sentinels, and a full circle shot of both teams. I can picture it: the Sentinels rise, the X-Men and Avengers get ready, the Sentinels attack, it cuts, and then you hear Doom say, "One day you will forgive me."
I think that's a perfect line to end the trailer with. It is apparently the only time we actually hear Doom, and since people have said he has an accent, I'm wondering what that sounds like. I think the line shows that Doom really does think his plan is the best, that he knows what's best for everybody and for the entire multiverse. That is a very Doctor Doom thing and a great characteristic of the character.
Why I think the bigger Avengers versus X-Men fights were being saved
This sounds like a teaser because otherwise we would have a lot more Avengers versus X-Men and a little more of the final battle teased. I expected more of those matchups, like Nightcrawler and Mr. Fantastic fighting each other, but they might be saving that for the first full trailer. It does sound like we get a really good look at Doom, multiple times, and I can't wait to see him raise the Sentinels.
Hearing and reading this is very different from seeing it, because these are visual movies. I do think they go deep with the stories, but the visuals are the awesome parts: Thor coming down on Doom with Stormbreaker and Doom blocking it. The fighting and the visuals give it the oomph. I came away more excited for this teaser, and everything pointed to it arriving at SDCC, where Marvel had already teased it would tell us a little about the future.
The reaction: a line compared to "I am inevitable"
One person compared it to the "I am inevitable" line, and I agree it hits that hard. They needed something like that, and I think they did a good job. Another suggested it might point to a sympathetic Doom, or at least one with empathy. I like that too. I think the Russo brothers and Robert Downey Jr. are going to handle Doom in a great way, if not close to perfect. Robert Downey Jr. really does his research, the Russos know Doom, and this is a story they have wanted to tell for a very long time. I do think he will be a little empathetic, but we'll wait and see.
Someone asked whether Doom saying "me" rather than referring to himself as Doom means everyone is already dead. I don't know; the movie may handle that differently from the comics. It could come after he defeats everybody with the Sentinels, or in Latveria. But I think he would more than likely be saying it to someone, like Reed, rather than to no one.
Another person felt the line sounded out of character unless it was aimed at the Fantastic Four, Sue Storm specifically, or his old family. Maybe it is about him having to stop the incursions: the machine explodes, it kills his family, and he says one day you'll forgive me because he is trying to save the multiverse. Maybe he could bring them back, or maybe at the end his wife becomes Sue and his son Franklin. One more suggested this had more of an Endgame vibe than Infinity War, emotional and nostalgic, and with moments like Steve and Yelena talking about Natasha, it might be.
Do you think "One day you will forgive me" is aimed at Reed, at Doom's own family, or at the whole multiverse?
