Avengers Doomsday Leaks Reportedly Reveal Doctor Strange Working as Doom's Masked Ally "Boris"
New rumored scenes suggest Doctor Strange hides behind a mask at Doom's castle and may cast the spell that wipes memories before Secret Wars.
Doctor Doom is going to win at the end of Avengers Doomsday, just like Thanos won at the end of Avengers Infinity War, and that will carry the story into Avengers Secret Wars. It looks like Doctor Strange is going to play a role similar to the one he played in Infinity War, but this time it looks much more intricate. Two new reported scenes about Doctor Strange line up with recent reports, and I'll treat them as rumors for now.
Steve Rogers Staying in the Past Reportedly Triggers the Incursion That Scars Doctor Doom
The first leak comes from James Mack and lines up with a bunch of other plot leaks and reports. In Avengers Doomsday, Doctor Doom reportedly has a grudge against Steve Rogers, and the trailers back this up. From what we've been told, Steve Rogers goes back in time at the end of Avengers Endgame and stays there, which was not supposed to happen, something even Loki season one set up. Loki moves him because his universe is going to be pruned, sending him to the Fantastic Four's universe with Peggy and their son, which the trailer confirms since he's carrying a TVA card from Loki.
Him being in the Fantastic Four's universe, where Doctor Doom is from, causes an incursion to begin. From what I understand, Doctor Doom gets bruised and scarred, with a machine blowing up in his face as he tries to stop the incursion, and that unfortunately kills his family. That's reportedly why Steve Rogers becomes so important to Doom in Doomsday. I've heard Doom takes Steve to his castle and possibly kills his son, which sounds pretty intense.
Doctor Strange Reportedly Reveals Himself as Doom's Masked Ally "Boris" at Doomstadt
When Steve gets there, Doctor Doom will reveal himself, or rather, Doctor Strange will reveal himself. Doctor Doom reportedly has Doctor Strange working for him along with witches I believe include Scarlet Witch, Clea, possibly Sylvie, and maybe Agatha. Who exactly they are is unclear right now, but there is a male witch following Doom, and it's Doctor Strange. It's reportedly going to be revealed that Boris, a character from the comics, isn't being made into a separate character but instead functions as a code name for Doctor Strange.
He reportedly has a scene with Steve Rogers at Doom's castle after being brought to Doomstadt. In that conversation, Boris removes his mask and reveals he is Doctor Strange, prompting a reaction along the lines of "Strange, what the heck? Why are you with Doom?" Doctor Strange will tell Steve everything that happened since Multiverse of Madness up to the events of Avengers Doomsday, including why he chose to help Doom. I would actually take it further and say he reveals everything since Spider-Man No Way Home, and I would imagine everything since Avengers Endgame, with Loki and other events all coming into play for why the multiverse is headed for a collision course toward its destruction.
Mister Fantastic's Warning About Strange's Variants Reportedly Fuels Doom's Pitch to Save the Multiverse
Multiverse of Madness plays such an important role in what happens with Doctor Strange, and probably the Scarlet Witch as well, in Avengers Doomsday. John Krasinski's Mister Fantastic told Doctor Strange that the biggest threat to the multiverse was him, and also his variants. More than one variant of Doctor Strange has caused an incursion, and he himself has now caused a lot of them too.
Doctor Doom is going to tell him, "Do you see what you've did? Do you see what these other heroes have done? I have to make up for that. I have to save the multiverse. Will you stop destroying it and help me save it? Help me fix it." Ultimately I think that becomes Doctor Doom ruling, one universe under Doom, which probably isn't specifically what Doctor Strange is thinking going in.
I think he's going to reveal to Steve Rogers everything the heroes did, and it's really going to make Doctor Doom seem like a hero, which Kevin Feige has already said Doom views himself as. I would not be surprised if Doctor Strange views him as the hero as well, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Scarlet Witch does too, since she caused incursions of her own in Multiverse of Madness and is probably going to want to atone for it. They believe Doom is good and the only way to fix things because the heroes are just messing it up.
A Reported Spell From Doctor Strange May Explain Why Battleworld Heroes Forget the Past
Another report we've been hearing involves the end of Avengers Doomsday, as everybody is fighting in a giant battle between the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four, possibly with Sentinels, the Cabal, Thanos, or other evil variants behind Doom, since they wanted this fight bigger than Infinity War. While all of that is happening, Doctor Strange is reportedly doing a spell. We don't really know what it's for, but many insiders confirmed the earlier plot leak was basically true aside from some scenes being removed, and that leak had Strange completing a spell right as Doctor Doom creates Battleworld and the multiverse is destroyed.
Now we're hearing the spell might actually be the same or very similar to the one from Spider-Man No Way Home that made everybody forget who Peter Parker was, except in this case it makes everybody forget what the previous multiverse and universe was, since we've heard for a while that heroes won't remember anything from before once they reach Battleworld. This is a rumor coming from Movie Blog Geek, so take it with a grain of salt, but it does line up with insiders confirming Strange does a spell at the end.
Speculating on Steve Rogers' Memories, His Son's Fate, and a Possible Spider-Man Memory Fix
It makes sense because Doctor Doom looks set to have the power he needs, whether through the Scarlet Witch and Franklin Richards or his own power, to create Battleworld. The spell could be exactly why nobody on Battleworld remembers what happened before except for the people Doom deems worth remembering. We've heard he keeps Steve Rogers' memories intact and keeps him prisoner in his castle, which is very Doctor Doom: he seeks revenge and keeps it going.
We also know that if Steve Rogers' son does die, he's going to be resurrected, so I don't think he'll permanently die even though it's going to be intense. This makes sense because in Secret Wars, if the heroes get Doctor Strange to undo the spell, that could mean he undoes it for Spider-Man too, which could finally get MJ and Peter back together. I know some people want him to move on to Felicia Hardy or Gwen, but it seems like that's what Marvel wants to do, and Peter could simply ask Strange to undo it for him once they're in a new universe.
Why This Could Be Doctor Strange's Long Game Before Turning on Doom in Secret Wars
I think this is an incredibly good plan for Doctor Strange because it reminds me of the line he told Tony Stark, that this was the only way. I believe that's basically what he tells Steve: everything is going to die, the multiverse is headed for a collision course, and there's nothing they can do, but through Doom they can actually survive. This might not even be revealed until Secret Wars.
After Secret Wars, once Doom doesn't prove to be the best ruler, that's where Doctor Strange can turn on him and start helping the Avengers, and I wouldn't be surprised if his spell does something to help them out, maybe planting something in someone's mind or skipping the spell on one particular person. We know some people will be in the void, the quantum realm, or on life rafts, and some heroes are going to remember, so maybe Strange protects a few of them, possibly even Spider-Man.
This looks like a long game for Doctor Strange where it seems like he's siding with the villain, but it's really due to the circumstances of the multiverse's inevitable destruction, and it's the best thing he can do to help the heroes and the multiverse itself. I do believe he eventually turns on Doctor Doom in Secret Wars. In the comics that doesn't end well for him, since Doctor Doom kills him when he does that, though I don't think it'll go the same way here. Either way, I think his story is going to be really good in Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars.
Do you think Doctor Strange's plan is the only way to save the multiverse, or is he making a mistake by siding with Doom?
