Hot Toys Doctor Doom Figures Appear to Settle the Fantastic Four Post Credits Mask Theory
New Avengers: Doomsday figures show Doom's two suits up close, a Darkhold inspired by concept art, Thor smashing a Sentinel, and Magneto and Professor X in costume
A new look at Doctor Doom from Hot Toys gives us what may be the best view of his Avengers: Doomsday costumes so far, and I think it puts one big theory to rest: the mask Doom holds in the Fantastic Four: First Steps post credits scene looks like the same mask he wears in these figures. The reveals also bring a Darkhold, a Thor versus Sentinel scene, and new looks at the X-Men.
Hot Toys is officially partnered with Marvel, and it has replicated Doom's outfits, plural, along with some of the X-Men outfits for its figures. As far as I am concerned, these are exactly as they are going to look in the movie, so this is an official look at Doom's costume.
The Road to Doomsday promo art gives Doom a regal new look
The Marvel pop-up Road to Doomsday Hot Toys promo art is just completely insane. I love this look at Doom. We have had one before, but this one has the Avengers logo with green stained glass in the back, and on the right a look at Doom that is very similar to the one we got in the trailer. It is amazing.
The first figure is Doom in what people are calling his military outfit, or his ruler outfit. I actually do really like it. It is very regal, and it shows him as the leader, the ruler of Latveria.
Doom's ruler suit mask looks like the one from the First Steps post credits scene
This figure speaks directly to a big theory about the post credits scene where we first saw Doom in the MCU. In Fantastic Four: First Steps, he appears with his mask off to Franklin Richards in the Baxter Building. When the first Doomsday trailer arrived, a lot of people said the Doom mask in it was not the same mask he was holding in that scene.
Some argued that Marvel just changed it. Others said the figure in the post credits scene was actually one of Doom's witch followers, or that it could even be Doctor Strange. And yes, the masks were very different when you compare the post credits scene with the trailer.
We have seen this ruler suit before, in the trailer and in the special look for Avengers: Doomsday, but we never got a close look at the mask. Here it is very plain to see, and it seems to be the mask from the post credits scene. If you look at the divot and the smoothness of it, it really does look like that mask. They might change it just a little bit between the two films, but I think this settles that theory. I think it makes sense for Victor to be the one who goes to the Fantastic Four to talk to them about what is happening with the multiverse.
Why Doom wears the ruler suit to meet the Fantastic Four
People say the suit looks militant. Well, yes, he is the leader of Latveria and rules over it, and from what it sounds like he has a pretty big army. That army might be mostly Doombots in Avengers: Doomsday, but he does have some followers.
We saw the seat for Latveria in Fantastic Four: First Steps, which was supposed to be for Victor Von Doom. He was not there, probably because he was doing some things with the multiverse. Now he appears to Sue Storm, and we have her monologue in the new special look trailer, which is great. She thinks very highly of him. So I see this outfit as Doom arriving formally, as a friend but also as the ruler of one of the nations on this Earth. Of course, he has ulterior motives.
Doom's villain suit figure comes with the Darkhold
We also get a better look at his other suit, which I would call the one he brings out once everybody figures out he really is the villain. The figure has him on a Sentinel hand, using the Sentinel arm to hold himself up, with green magic coming out and what looks like some black magic, though maybe it is just dark green.
The figure also carries the Darkhold. The listing says the book is inspired by concept art. We have already heard insider reports that Doom has some artifacts and that the Darkhold is one of them, so this further confirms the leaks we have heard. If Doom is collecting power, it definitely makes sense that he would have it, especially with Doctor Strange on his side and a following of witches.
I do really love this figure and I will be getting it. We have already seen Doom raise the Sentinels in the special look, which was one of the coolest things I have ever seen, and this figure is "one of the coolest things that I've seen as well."
Thor smashes a Sentinel, but Doom may have a magical answer to Stormbreaker
As cool as Doom on the Sentinel hand looks, Thor busting through a Sentinel head with Mjolnir and Stormbreaker in hand looks equally awesome. The Sentinel's head is split open, with one eye glowing and no eye on the other side because it is busted. These figures are based on scenes in the movie.
We have seen in both trailers that Thor goes up to Doom and tries to fight him but cannot, and Doom blocks him with two fingers really easily. Looking at the new suit, there is something on his hand that looks like metal plating with some type of rune on it, or enchanted with a spell for protection. That is most likely how he is able to stop Stormbreaker so easily.
There is also something going around online where Stormbreaker flies at Doom and he simply throws it aside. It is really hard to tell right now because there is a lot of AI material out there, but it would not surprise me. Doom is an incredibly strong sorcerer, and in the comics he is Sorcerer Supreme at one point. Maybe he cannot lift Mjolnir, but maybe he can push it aside while it is flying. Mjolnir has its enchantment, but Doom can have his own, and with the Darkhold too, "this is why Doom is the biggest and the baddest of them all."
The Sentinel battle is the fight I am most excited for
This is why I think the Avengers are going to lose. Even though Thor is destroying Sentinels after Doom raises them, Doom still gets away. By this point Doom is revealed as the villain, and the Sentinels attack the Avengers, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and everyone there. No deaths are confirmed in this battle, but since the trailer shows Sue Storm talking to everybody and they are all really beaten up, it seems most of them live. Doom then goes back to the Fantastic Four's universe, and everybody goes to fight him in Latveria.
This battle is probably what I am most looking forward to right now, with the Avengers, the X-Men and some members of the Fantastic Four together. It's probably the first battle that we ever get in the MCU, well, ish, if you don't count Doctor Strange and everything.
Magneto and Professor X figures bring the X-Men back the right way
Magneto's suit, helmet and hair match what we have seen in the trailers, and Professor X's jacket with the red X looks incredible. I loved the X-Men coming back in Multiverse of Madness, but it was not nice to see Professor X die again, or John Krasinski's Mr. Fantastic get spaghettified. This feels done in a really right way, especially Cyclops, whose figures are incredible. I really appreciate the artwork that goes into these.
A third Doom suit may arrive with Battleworld
We have even heard there might be one more suit at the very end of Avengers: Doomsday, when Doom is finally ruler, or god emperor, over Battleworld. That could be the all white armor from the comics that most of us have been waiting for. It looks like we may have seen it a little in leaked concept art of him on the throne. Reports say there are definitely two suits in the film, with a third coming at the end once he creates Battleworld, probably something similar to his Latverian ruler outfit.
Do you think the Hot Toys mask finally proves it was Doom in the First Steps post credits scene?
