Four Years Later, I Still Think Spider-Man No Way Home Is the Perfect Spider-Man Movie

Despite hating the multiverse and not even being a die-hard Spider-Man fan, this film nails what the character is supposed to be about.

Four years on, Spider-Man No Way Home is still, in my opinion, the perfect Spider-Man movie. I know plenty of people argue this movie hasn't aged well, but I still really enjoy it.

This one matters to me because it goes against almost everything I usually complain about in superhero movies right now.

I Absolutely Loathe the Multiverse, But This Movie Handles It Well

As I've said before, I absolutely loathe the multiverse. I think it is a dumb concept, and I hate that this is the direction the MCU is going in. But a movie like No Way Home handles it as well as it possibly could.

Yes, It Cherry-Picks From Seven Spider-Man Movies, But It Still Works

I'll grant that this movie has the advantage of having seven Spider-Man movies to cherry-pick from when it comes to bringing back villains and past Spider-Men. But it does it so well that the advantage doesn't feel like a cheat to me.

This Isn't Just Nostalgia Talking, I'm Not Even a Huge Spider-Man Fan

I can already hear the counterargument: Goldman, you're just falling for nostalgia. Not really. I'm not a big Spider-Man fan. I like most of the older movies, but not all of them, so my enjoyment of this one isn't just me getting misty-eyed over old franchises.

To Me, This Movie Captures What Spider-Man Is Really About

So why did I like this movie so much? To me, this movie exemplifies everything I do like about Spider-Man. Spider-Man to me is all about making sacrifices for the greater good. Spider-Man will always be willing to get beaten up and hurt if it means others will be safe.

The Ending, Where Peter Erases Himself From Everyone's Memory, Is Textbook Spider-Man

At the end of this movie, when Peter makes the decision to have everyone forget about him so they could be safe, that to me was textbook Spider-Man. That final sacrifice is the moment that sums up why this movie works for me even four years later.

Do you think No Way Home still holds up four years later, or has it lost some of its shine for you?
