Ranking Every Sony Spider-Man Movie From Least Bad To Worst: Venom Wins, Kraven Surprises, Madame Web Finishes Last
I broke down all six Sony Spider-Man universe films, including the freshly bombed Kraven, and it turns out picking a winner mostly means finding the least terrible option.
I ranked all six of Sony's live-action Spider-Man universe movies from best to worst, and the short version is that Venom takes the top spot while Madame Web lands dead last. Kraven, which just flopped at the box office, actually landed in the middle of my list.
This ranking matters for anyone who has sat through Sony's attempts to build a Spider-Man universe without Spider-Man, because as I put it, this might be one of the hardest rankings I have ever done, just because of how bad these movies all are.
Kraven The Hunter Grossed Just $62 Million On A $110 Million Budget
Before getting into the ranking itself, I noted the rough numbers on Kraven's theatrical run. The film ended up grossing just $62 million worldwide against a production budget of around $110 million, a result that puts it firmly in box office bomb territory.
Venom 1 Is The Only One Of The Six I'd Call A Respectable Film
At the top of my list is the original Venom. In my words, "I would say the least bad, aka the best, would be Venom 1," and I went further to explain why: "This is the only movie of the six that I would actually consider to be a respectable film."
Venom 2 Lands At Number Two By Sharing The First Film's Strengths
Right behind it is Venom: Let There Be Carnage. My reasoning is that it carries over enough of what worked in the first movie to earn the second spot, saying, "I think this movie shares enough positive elements of the first movie that I can put it at number two."
Kraven Surprisingly Beats Two Other Sony Films At Number Three
Despite its box office collapse, Kraven ranks ahead of half the list for me. I said plainly, "At three would have to be Craven," adding that, gun to my head, I could enjoy it for that.
Venom 3 Drops To Number Four
The trilogy closer, Venom 3, falls behind its predecessors and behind Kraven in my ranking, taking the fourth spot on the list.
Morbius Edges Out Madame Web For Fifth Place, But Only Tentatively
The bottom two spots came down to a direct comparison I posed myself: "what's worse, Madame Webb or MorbiiUs?" I landed on Morbius as the slightly less bad option, but I was clear that this call is not firm, saying "I'm tentatively going to go with MorbiiUs at five and Madame Webb at six."
Madame Web Finishes Last Despite Being The Funnier Watch
Madame Web closes out the ranking at the very bottom, even though I acknowledged it has a certain entertainment value. "Madame Web is funnier because of how bad it is," I said, "So, you could argue it's more entertaining, but in reality, it's just such a bad movie that it needs to go in last."
Where would you personally slot Kraven among Sony's Spider-Man movies, and do you agree Madame Web deserves last place over Morbius?
