Cyberpunk 2 Director Says the Sequel Is Evolving Beyond His Original Vision

Cyberpunk 2 game director Gabe Amatangelo says the sequel is evolving beyond his original vision. In a new CD Projekt Red blog post, he also opened up about how the sequel is changing and what Cyberpunk is really about for him.

Gabe Amatangelo says Cyberpunk 2 evolves as more people get involved

Amatangelo said he had the idea of Cyberpunk 2 in the beginning, but "It evolves as I involve more people." So as the team grows, the game is becoming more of a reflection of everyone working on it.

He then went on to talk about what Cyberpunk means to him, saying: "It's about exploring the extremes of dehumanization." In a world where people literally replace their bodies with chrome, that's the perfect theme.

Cyberpunk 2 is being made more collaboratively than Cyberpunk 2077

This is also a huge shift from how Cyberpunk 2077 was made. The team talked about how the first game had silo development, which is something I've talked about before, but now it's way more collaborative at the Boston studio.

In my opinion, that's exactly what CDPR needs to do to avoid another launch like Cyberpunk 2077.

Edgerunners 2 and a live action Cyberpunk 2077 movie expand the universe

The wider Cyberpunk universe is also expanding. Edgerunners 2 drops all 10 episodes on Netflix on October 20th. I've seen every episode so far, and I was thankful to get to see them that early.

There's also a live action Cyberpunk 2077 movie in development, which we now know is not a direct adaptation of the game. It's actually going to be a story set in the universe, kind of like Edgerunners.

From what it sounds like today, CD Projekt Red is still going all in on the Cyberpunk universe, and they're showing no signs of stopping.
