Chaos Ranks the 8 Worst Maps Infinity Ward Ever Put in Call of Duty

From a flooded Ghost map with a stupid death gimmick to a Modern Warfare 2019 map I call an all you could eat buffet of bad design, here is my worst of the worst.

Infinity Ward has a reputation for making some lame maps, and after looking at literally hundreds of maps the studio has developed over the last couple decades, I lined them all up next to each other and worked out the eight worst Infinity Ward maps we have ever had the displeasure of playing in Call of Duty.

Number 8: Flooded gets overshadowed by a different Ghost map, but it earns its spot

There is a different Ghost map that likes to hog the spotlight in all the worst ways, which meant Flooded was largely absent from worst map discussions even though it was a complete atrocity. It was gigantic, way too cluttered, full of bugs, and full of out of map glitches, several of which are still not patched out.

It also had a stupid gimmick where parts of the map would get flooded with water, and your supposedly super awesome super soldier would instantly die if he got wet. I know it was the Xbox 360 era, but I am genuinely thankful modern Call of Duty games do not do the stupid touch water, you die thing. It still needed to be on this list.

Number 7: Euphrates Bridge basically remade Gustav Cannon from COD World War II, but worse

I have to ask why this map is even in the 6v6 rotation at all. It feels like Infinity Ward heard all the massive criticism of Gustav Cannon in COD World War II and decided to make basically the same map but somehow even worse. Like Gustaf, Euphrates is a very large map of flat surfaces except for one giant piece of high ground in the dead center that only has two ways up and two ways down, which makes it incredibly easy for one team to lock down.

Once a team is up there, they can spawn trap the enemy for the entirety of the match because the spawn logic is so screwed up that it is impossible to be sneaky or evasive. There is also a baffling amount of completely unused space, which makes those spawning issues worse. What is the point of making a map so huge if 30 percent of it never gets used, and why remake Gustav Cannon a second time but worse?

Number 6: Aniyah Palace plays like a campaign level pasted into multiplayer

I have no idea how Infinity Ward managed to make a map this bizarre and horrible. It really feels like they copy pasted an entire campaign level into a multiplayer box. There is way too much going on, and there is not nearly enough flow to create any kind of battle line.

You just spawn at random buildings, run around random alleyways, and eventually get killed by somebody camping in a random building, then you spawn in a different random building and do it all over again. Maybe you get lucky fighting your way to the palace in the middle, or you get immediately killed by people who camped there because they secured it first with no way to sneak up on them. It is yet another Infinity Ward map where the winning team is almost always whoever gets the power position first.

Number 5: Stonehaven became the face of a Ghost multiplayer that people summed up in three things

Stonehaven is one of the most infamously terrible maps in Call of Duty history, and it became the face of Call of Duty: Ghosts for a while. This map, the Riley dog AI, and the fish AI were the three things people liked to talk about with Ghost, which pretty much sums up how frustrated the community was with that game.

Despite being an absolutely gorgeous map, Stonehaven was a total mess and basically summed up all the problems with Ghost as a multiplayer game. It was way too big, spawns were way too far from the action, and you almost never actually finished the objectives or hit the score limit because every game hit the time limit instead, since nobody could find each other. You would spawn in, run around for a few minutes, see the Harry Potter looking house, look for enemies, get killed by a camper, and then do it again.

Number 4: Piccadilly looks amazing but its realism ruins the multiplayer

I once made a video breaking down why this was the single worst map in Call of Duty history. Since I am putting it at number four now, that means I have had a bit of a change of heart, but not much. I still think it is what I called "a dead goldfish of a map," and Infinity Ward has somehow given it stiff competition at the bottom of that fish tank with everything else on this list.

Piccadilly is an absolutely amazing looking map with incredible attention to detail recreating the real world location it is based on, but realism does not make for a good Call of Duty map. If a war actually broke out over Piccadilly Circus, the winning strategy would be to go upstairs in one of the buildings in the center area and sit there with a shotgun, because two people could fight off an entire army as long as they got into those buildings first.

There was even a viral clip during the Modern Warfare 2019 era of Infinity Ward developers playing multiplayer on stream who literally backed out of this lobby the moment they saw it.

Number 3: Santa Sena border crossing shipped with explosive mini nuke cars

Somehow this map got through testing with nobody raising a hand to say maybe they should not fill an extremely narrow map with a whole bunch of explosive cars. When it came out, it did not just have one of the dumbest designs in Call of Duty history for a 6v6 map, it also had parked cars everywhere that were all mini nukes, meaning a frag grenade or a bullet would turn them into a huge explosion.

The first few minutes of every match on this map were filled with people lobbing grenades across the map and getting free multi kills off the car bombs. Even after Infinity Ward finally patched out the explosive cars, what was left was a completely boring map with a horrible layout and no flow, set in a location where there was rarely more than 10 feet of open floor space. I still do not understand why this kind of long, narrow map design keeps getting popular with Call of Duty developers.

Number 2: Derail is the Modern Warfare 2 map nobody ever actually voted for

I might get some heat for putting this one so high, but be honest about whether you ever actually wanted to play it. Despite Modern Warfare 2 being such a legendary game, I am willing to bet not a single person ever voted for Derail when it came up in pre-match voting, even in the remastered version in Modern Warfare 3 from 2023, because it does not matter what they did with the map, it is not good.

It is way too big and super campy, with no real strategies no matter what game mode you are playing. The second somebody gets air support, it is game over because there is hardly any overhead cover. The only real winning strategy is to camp in either the center building or the gas station on the other side of the ravine. If you are not camping one of those two spots, you are just going to get killed over and over again.

Number 1: Grazna Raid somehow manages to be too big and too cramped at the same time

Modern Warfare 2019 had a lot of maps on this list, and I am in complete disbelief that this map came out in the 6v6 playlist, and even more disbelief that it was never patched out once everybody started complaining. The map was gigantic, far too big for 6v6, and it was not just the size, it was that it was ridiculously cluttered with random buildings, alleyways, head glitches, and dark corners, basically everything you would ever want from a horrible Call of Duty map.

It did not matter whether it was played in 6v6 or 10v10, it was horrible no matter what mode you were in. As I put it, it is "the all you could eat buffet of the worst things about Call of Duty." I have never seen another Call of Duty map somehow be both too big and too open while also being too cramped and too campy at the same time, and for that, it is the worst map in Infinity Ward history.

Which of these was the worst of the worst for you?
