Arjun Reddy part four reaction: the malpractice hearing and its fallout
Brandon Sheiley and Vivian Day reach the hearing, the confession and a Louis Armstrong detail in the fourth part of their Arjun Reddy reaction
We're four parts into our reaction to Arjun Reddy, and this stretch brings the surgery that goes wrong, the hearing that follows and the fallout from Arjun's confession. If you start here without the first three parts, you won't know what's happening. Our overall feeling at the close of this part: we're enjoying the journey for sure.
The surgery turns into a malpractice case
Arjun tried to say it was his day off. The reaction was "hope he's not going to have a malpractice issue," and that's where it went. It raised the question of whether they tested him. When the hospital's people stepped up to back him, the reaction was, "They really went to bat for him, man." The film also called Flight to mind; the title was familiar all round, though not everyone had seen it.
The cleanup that didn't last
The push for Arjun to clean up his life and change his appearance didn't hold. "It didn't last long," came the verdict. Rehab came up, along with the question of whether they have that in India, and the answer "I'm sure they do." The five lines got the reaction "Five lines is crazy."
The confession at the hearing
When he answered yes to whether he was drunk on the day of the surgery, the reaction was: "Now it's going to make it look like all these people lied for you." Then came "Bye-bye license," and the film's mention of Section 269 and a minimum of five years. He had all those other chances to fix himself up, and the response was "Had to hit rock bottom."
A Louis Armstrong detail and the anger
When he looked ready to take it out on the dog, he was probably dealing with the DTs and all kind of stuff. Partway through the later scenes, it clicked that the song was What a Wonderful World, which connected to the Louis Armstrong picture on his wall earlier. It turned out to be a personal favorite song. Near the end of this part, one reaction to Arjun's temper was "That anger, dude. You need all kinds of interventions."
