Bison vs Spanish Bull: Why I Think the Bison Wins More Often Than Not

A bison versus a Spanish bull, who wins? I think the Spanish bull can win a fight, but more often than not, it's going to be the bison.

This is actually a pretty close fight, because even as powerful as a bison is, "the Spanish bull might have the better weapons."

The Spanish bull's long, forward-pointing horns make it dangerous

Those horns are long, and they're pointed forward. On top of that, Spanish fighting bulls have been selectively bred for aggression and their willingness to charge.

So if that bull catches the bison with a clean shot in the side, the belly or the neck, it could absolutely kill it.

You also have to factor in size and weight. A big male American bison can weigh close to 2,000 pounds, which means it could have several hundred pounds on the Spanish bull.

Male bison spend every mating season fighting other giant bison

It's not just that the bison is bigger. Male bison basically spend every mating season fighting other giant bison. They charge each other, smash their heads together, lock horns and start trying to shove the other bull backwards.

Their skulls are even specifically built to help absorb and spread out the force from those head-on collisions. So really, the Spanish bull is charging into an animal that does this all the time.

Head on, I don't see the Spanish bull moving the bison

Those longer horns could still be dangerous if the bull gets the right angle, and one good gore could change the fight. But if they meet straight on, "I just don't see the bull moving the bison." The bison is heavier, and it's built for these kinds of collisions.

Bison also don't just stand there head-butting each other. They'll hook opponents with their horns and attack from the side, and they've been observed pushing other bulls backwards and flipping them over.

So I definitely think the Spanish bull can win a fight. More often than not, though, it's going to be the bison. The bison wins.
