Silver Surfer Beats Green Lantern in a Fight, According to This Comics Breakdown

Silver Surfer wins a fight against Green Lantern, and I think you can picture exactly how it plays out. Surfer shows up on Earth scouting planets for his master Galactus to devour, only to be met by Green Lantern, a space cop whose one job is preventing Earth from getting eaten.

Green Lantern's Ring Constructs Are Strong, But Silver Surfer Outclasses Him Physically

Surfer is going to outclass Green Lantern in pretty much every physical category. That said, Hal's ring constructs are both very strong and very tough. They pack quite a punch, and Hal has used them to help pull the Earth. He has even managed to shield himself from a planet destroying blast with them.

The problem is twofold, and the first part is that Surfer can do all the same things Green Lantern can, and then some. Surfer has thrown around planets, overpowered the Hulk, injured Galactus, and taken a full on blast from Thanos wielding the Infinity Gauntlet. He literally surfs supernovas for fun. Everything Green Lantern can do physically, Surfer can do too.

Hal Jordan's Constructs Are Only as Reliable as His Willpower

The bigger problem for Green Lantern is that Hal's constructs are tied directly to his willpower. Even though Hal has the best willpower in the galaxy, his constructs are still written very inconsistently across the comics. A lot of times Green Lantern's constructs will break. A lot of times they won't really injure people.

I would bet that same inconsistency shows up here against Surfer too.

Speed Isn't Even a Fair Comparison Between the Two

Speed isn't really a fair category to bring into this fight. Silver Surfer is up there with the Flash for some of the most, in my words, BS speed feats of all time, including outracing the end of everything and even outracing himself in the process. There is no real case to be made for Green Lantern on pure speed.

Willpower Versus the Power Cosmic Decides the Fight

Really, this fight comes down to willpower versus the power cosmic. Hal is literally a nexus of willpower. He can function as his own power battery and do some genuinely wild things with his ring, ranging from battling against entire Corps all by himself to beating a Guardian of the Universe armed with all the emotional entities.

Surfer and the power cosmic represent one of the most overpowered abilities out there, since his power basically lets him do whatever he wants to do. He has just as much power cosmic as Galactus himself, and he has been able to fight against the likes of Thanos. Surfer has even beaten other Lanterns before in crossovers.

The Verdict on Green Lantern Versus Silver Surfer

Green Lantern can give it all he's got in this matchup. But at the end of the day, Silver Surfer is still going to be the last one standing. Surfer wins.
