Why Superman Beats Thor, Even Though Thor Might Be Stronger

Comparing strength, durability, power and speed feats from both universes, one stat ends up deciding the fight.

Superman beats Thor. That is where I land after weighing up strength, durability, power and speed for both characters, and it comes down to one stat that Thor simply cannot overcome no matter how strong he gets.

Thor and Superman are two of the biggest powerhouses in their respective universes, and this is a fight where both heroes can definitely make a case to win. So let me break down how they compare across the categories that matter.

Superman and Thor's Strength Feats Go Toe to Toe

Superman has done things like overpower the World Engine and escape from the pull of the Phantom Zone, meaning Clark overpowered a planetary force with the World Engine and overpowered the pull of a black hole with the Phantom Zone. From there, he shifted a tectonic plate in Batman v Superman, overpowered the entirety of the Justice League all by himself, and then easily defeated Steppenwolf.

Thor has also put up some impressive strength feats. He has battled against the Hulk, Malekith, Hela, and Thanos, but most impressively, he created massive canyons in Jotunheim with just one strike, and moved the entirety of the rings in Nidavellir, which are moon or small planet sized rings.

Honestly, I have to give the slight edge to Thor because of that. Moving rings that size with physical force is a step above anything Superman has been shown doing in these examples.

Durability: Surviving a Nuclear Bomb Versus a Neutron Star

Durability goes the same way, in Thor's favor. Superman has been smashed through skyscrapers, no sold a hit from Steppenwolf, and even survived a nuclear bomb, although the blast did nearly kill him.

Thor has been smashed around by the Hulk, Thanos, and Hela, but he survived direct exposure to a neutron star. That exposure nearly killed him too, but a star is bigger than a nuke, so that feat edges out Superman's nuclear survival.

Stormbreaker and Mjolnir Give Thor a Power Edge

I also think you can argue that Thor has more power thanks to his weapons. Stormbreaker and Mjolnir are pretty overpowered weapons. Stormbreaker destroyed the Bifrost and nearly destroyed Jotunheim, while Mjolnir overpowered the Infinity Gauntlet and nearly killed Thanos.

Both weapons should have enough power to genuinely hurt Superman if they connected. On paper, that gives Thor three separate edges heading into the final category: strength, durability, and power.

Speed Is the One Stat That Decides This Fight

But the truth is, it is all about speed, and that is why Superman wins. Even if Thor has slight edges in strength, durability, and power, Superman massively outstats him with speed, because Superman is just as fast as the Flash, can react at the speed of light, and is way, way faster than Thor.

Superman has absolutely no problem with speed blitzing anyone, and for all of Thor's power, none of it is going to matter if he cannot land a single hit on Superman. It is not going to matter if Thor does not even land a single punch. That is what is going to happen. Superman wins.

Who do you think actually takes this fight?
