Magneto vs Storm: Why Storm's Cosmic Run Finally Settles Who Wins

Magneto versus Storm: who wins? For most of X-Men history this debate went Magneto's way, but Storm's recent run changed the whole conversation, and my verdict is that Storm wins.

Magneto's feats made this his fight to lose for decades

Magneto has moved an asteroid. He has reversed Earth's polarity. He has held 50 X-Men simultaneously with a twitch of his finger. His force field has withstood attacks that would flatten most opponents. The master of magnetism at his peak is genuinely one of the most dangerous mutants alive.

Cold is one of Storm's favourite weapons, yet it actually amps Magneto's powers rather than hurting him. He subdued her multiple times in the comics. For decades, this was his fight to lose.

Storm's recent run saw her make it rain on the moon from Earth

Then Storm's recent run happened and the whole conversation changed. "Like dramatically changed." She generated a storm on the moon from Earth. The moon has no atmosphere, no weather, nothing, and she reached across space and made it rain anyway.

Then Eternity himself, the literal cosmic embodiment of existence, chose her as worthy to become an eternal version of Storm. She went toe to toe with Infinity, the embodiment of Marvel's reality, and walked away. She has described her own powers now as beyond Omega level, and even that undersells it. She is merging with cosmic entities, and she is an avatar of life.

A planetary threat has no answer for the Eternal Storm

Magneto is planetary. "Storm, she's operating at a tier where planets are kind of a small concern."

The cold amp trick, the force fields, the magnetic mastery: all of it is remarkable against the Storm from ten years ago. "Against the eternal storm, he doesn't have an answer for what she's become." Storm wins.

Do you think Magneto's history of beating Storm still counts for anything against the Eternal Storm, or has her cosmic run settled this debate for good?
