Avengers Doomsday Reshoots Reportedly Wrap, Said to Involve Scarlet Witch, Sue Storm and an Expanded Sam Wilson Role

Insider Daniel RPK says pickup shoots have ended and touched Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, Sue Storm and Sam Wilson's Captain America, with reasoning on why each may have been added.

Reshoots on Avengers Doomsday have reportedly wrapped, and according to industry insider Daniel RPK they involved Scarlet Witch along with other characters like Sue Storm.

As always with any scooper, I think it is worth taking this with a grain of salt, since no insider gets everything right. That said, Daniel RPK is right up there with Jeff Sneider and a couple of others who have an established track record at this point, so take that as you will.

From a cameo fest to retooling the main cast

Going back two weeks, Daniel RPK basically made it sound like a cameo fest, or that they were adding a ton of cameos in these pickup shots to thicken up the cast, which is a strange thing to say about a movie that was already super crowded by every metric. I do not think we need to spend much time on that point out loud.

Who else would be doing this but the Russos, the same directors who handled reshoots once before on Infinity War and Endgame. I think that actually tells us quite a bit about what they were trying to do, or at least what we can infer. My read is that some of this is cameos, sure, but really this looks like a retooling of the main characters to push a specific narrative.

We know for sure they were not done writing the script for Doomsday when they started filming it. We have also heard from the same insider that some major decisions for Secret Wars are being held off on because they are still finishing Doomsday. Keep in mind reshoots were always scheduled for this year as part of the process, before they knew exactly what they would need.

I would not be surprised if some actors who initially turned the roles down, once they saw everyone involved with Doomsday, found it a little easier to say yes later. That is totally speculation on my part. It is also possible that as they got deeper into the story, they realized there was a perfect place for a character like Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch among Doctor Doom's followers and witches.

Scarlet Witch's return looks more like a cameo than a storyline

People online have been saying for the last year that Scarlet Witch is coming back as one of the witches behind Doom and that there would be a storyline built around her. I doubt there will be an extended storyline here, especially if this is only now being added in pickup shots. To me that leans more toward a cameo than a full arc.

Sue Storm's scenes and dialogue are being retooled

For a character like Sue Storm, she is a main protagonist throughout both Doomsday and Avengers Secret Wars. It is not a surprise at all that they wanted to go back and retool some of her dialogue and some of her scenes given how central she is to the story going forward.

Sam Wilson's Captain America is rumored to be getting more to do

The same can be said, and then some, for Sam Wilson's Captain America, who is rumored to be getting a lot more scenes and dialogue than he already had in Doomsday. I want to speak a bit freely here because I feel Marvel really fumbled the opportunity it had with Captain America: Brave New World.

I wish that film had been Sam recruiting his new Avengers team, maybe in the face of a government that did not want that to happen, maybe with all of them teaming up against Red Hulk. Instead he was isolated in that movie, with a villain in the Leader who showed no agency toward setting up Doomsday or Secret Wars.

There is a chance Marvel avoided having Sam recruit a team because it would have felt too similar to Thunderbolts creating a new Avengers lineup. Honestly, they did not even need him to recruit anyone. They could have had him and his new sidekick Falcon take on some offshoot villain tied to the impending space crisis mentioned at the end of Thunderbolts, the coming incursions, rather than leaving that only to the Leader talking about it in a post credit scene.

That is all to say Marvel Studios missed a real chance to make Sam more important heading into Doomsday and Secret Wars. Even so, I am glad to hear, even if it feels like a bit of a consolation this late in the process, that they are retooling more scenes for Sam Wilson's Cap. He has earned it.

Why the Bucky, Sam and Steve reunion needs real screen time

There needs to be genuine emotional weight for Bucky and Sam when they see Steve Rogers return as a young man, and time has to be spent on that. If it is not, that is a missed moment, both for us watching that reunion play out and for what comes at the end of the movie.

While it should obviously be Reed Richards and Doctor Doom as the central characters, I think it is more likely to actually be Steve Rogers and Doctor Doom carrying that weight, specifically because of what Steve means to Bucky and Sam. If extra dialogue gets added just to nail that reunion and what it means for the stakes of the story, it will be worth it.

Can Sam Wilson even survive a fight with Doctor Doom

I loved the Captain America: Brave New World action sequence on the ocean when Sam is surfing on the missile, and I think his set of actions is insane. I also think he is going to fit much better alongside the X-Men and their abilities than some of the other members of the Thunderbolts did.

What concerns me is the power gap between a lot of the non-super soldier heroes from the 616 and the mutants and Fantastic Four they will be fighting alongside. There is a real disparity there, and my honest take is I do not think a lot of them are going to survive.

What can Sam Wilson truly do against a Doctor Doom we have already seen best Thor in a one on one fight? Yelena Belova is not going to be a contest either. It might be fun to watch some of them take on Sentinels, but fighting Doctor Doom is a completely different story, and I think that is exactly why they brought in higher power level characters like Sentry.

Could Steve Rogers stick around for another Captain America movie

In a moment where Marvel Studios seems to be making sure it does right by all of these characters, and where Sam Wilson's arc may be coming to a close, I have to believe they are going to keep Steve Rogers around for another Captain America film. I may be wrong on that, but do not be surprised if Captain America 5 ends up being Steve and Sam together, if not Steve on his own.

At the end of the day, Sam Wilson deserves a lot more scenes in this movie, especially ones dedicated to him and Bucky reuniting with Steve.

Which characters do you think it is most important that they focus on heading into Doomsday?
