Avengers: Doomsday Leak Reportedly Shows Five Members of Doom's Team

Reported concept art places Doctor Strange, Clea, Gambit, Vision and Baron Mordo beside Doctor Doom, and I think it could point to a very different third act

A new piece of leaked concept art for Avengers: Doomsday reportedly shows five members of Doctor Doom's own Avengers team. Doctor Strange, Clea, Gambit, Vision and Baron Mordo are lined up on Doom's side, and the lineup includes one name we haven't heard tied to Avengers: Doomsday at all yet.

The art reportedly comes from the same Russian Telegram account that's been leaking a lot of Avengers: Doomsday material, including the pixelated leak from earlier in the year that turned out to be true. Below I'll go through who's in the lineup, how many followers Doom might have, and what this could mean for the third act and final battle.

Old Doomsday plot leaks about an evil Avengers team seem to be resurfacing

Some of the original plot leaks and rumors for Doomsday date back to 2024, just after Robert Downey Jr. was announced as Dr. Doom. Some of those details seemingly went away for the last two years. Now they've shown up again with what seems like some slight confirmation from Marvel itself.

I'm referring to the last two post-credit scenes Marvel has released. One was in Spider-Man, and then there was further clarification in Avengers Endgame Encore, when Doom announced he was collecting Hulk. That's probably what he did with Peter Parker too, and if that's true, it raises the question of what he was collecting them for.

Then a recent update about Doom's Avengers said that throughout the film he may be recruiting certain heroes we already see fighting against him, like Gambit. At least in the first part of the film, those heroes are lined up fighting the Sentinels and Doom. As I pointed out in my coverage at the time, this goes back to the original plot leak saying Doom would have an evil version of the Avengers. That's where I imagined a Maestro Hulk, a Hydra Cap and so on. I figured he'd be plucking villainous versions of these heroes from across the multiverse. But from what I'm seeing right now, it seems he'll use heroes we already know from the three existing timelines, including the 828 and the 616.

The leaked concept art reportedly puts Doctor Strange at the center of Doom's lineup

First, the usual spoiler warning, now with an AI amendment. Take everything that doesn't come directly from Marvel with a grain of salt, especially images. They can be created with AI, which seems to have happened a lot this year. People are also feeding concept art and clips through AI to mask where they came from and get around the copyright strikes that get them taken down. Still, there have been more visual leaks for Avengers: Doomsday than for any Avengers film before. That includes the scene of Doom with the Sentinels, fighting the Fantastic Four, X-Men and Avengers all teamed up. If this might spoil your experience, now's the time to stop reading.

The art is slightly blurry. It shows five heroes lined up beside Dr. Doom in what looks like Castle Doomstadt. They're dressed in various colors, but mostly black and gold, with Doctor Strange in the middle. The rest of the group is Clea, Gambit, Vision and Baron Mordo.

Most of them could presumably be versions from the 616, except for Gambit and Clea, and we've been able to account for those two before. Clea picked up Doctor Strange at the end of Multiverse of Madness. Gambit is in most of the frames we've seen so far from the first and second acts of Avengers: Doomsday. There's still a Baron Mordo in the 616, although the last time we saw him, it was over in the 838.

Vision looks almost like Silver Surfer in the art

In this concept art, Vision looks almost metallic. I actually had to do a double take, because at first I thought it was Silver Surfer.

When you look at the costume, though, it's undeniably Vision. He only resembles Silver Surfer because he's the spectral, white Vision we currently have in the MCU, and there's a shadow over his face. That's why he looks metallic.

Insiders have reportedly tied Falcon and Gambit to Doom's side

When I recently covered the Avengers team that may end up on Dr. Doom's side, industry insiders mentioned other names for this squad, including Sam Wilson's Falcon. Credit where it's due, Gambit was on that list too.

As I mentioned then, that means at some point during Avengers: Doomsday, while these heroes are fighting Doom, they're either kidnapped or taken by him and then converted or convinced to join his side. Maybe it happens the same way he's already converted Doctor Strange and Clea, and the same way he converted his witch followers. Maybe it's the same way he's going to convert Hulk and Spider-Man.

Presumably this is to bring them into the fold and have them serve as Barons over Battleworld, once we finally get there after Avengers: Doomsday in Avengers: Secret Wars.

Doom's Avengers could keep the third act from feeling like a step backwards

I think what this means for the end of the film is critical. Most of the plot leaks have described an enormous battle where all the heroes band together to save the 616, fighting either on Earth or in the 828 as they march on Latveria.

Per some of those plot leaks, the heroes show up in Latveria and have to get through a bunch of Doombots before facing Doom. I've always said that feels like a step backwards after they've all banded together against the Sentinels. A crowd of person sized Doombots doesn't seem nearly as scary as six or seven Sentinels all controlled by Dr. Doom.

What wouldn't be a step backwards is having to suddenly fight Dr. Doom's Avengers. Some of them would be heroes we haven't seen fight during the film, like Doctor Strange, Clea and Mordo. Others would be heroes who were lined up alongside our heroes earlier in the film and have apparently switched sides. In a way, that would make for an absolutely epic third act. We haven't seen hero on hero fighting on this level since Civil War.

Heroes fighting heroes may be the theme of Avengers: Doomsday

It sounds like we'll already see some of that conflict, either between the Avengers and the New Avengers, or between them and the X-Men. There's also a moment in the trailer where it looks like the people of Talokan are seizing the people of Wakanda. Way in the back corner, it looks like Ghost and some other Avengers are there. You can also see the Thing standing inside the temple, which would mean Avengers fighting against the people of Talokan.

So the theme of this film feels like heroes fighting each other in a way we haven't seen since Civil War. That could all culminate in a third act where the heroes don't simply band together to march on Latveria and fight Doombots and Doom. Instead, they'd march on Latveria and have to fight some of the heroes they were lined up with earlier in the movie. That would make for a much more emotional scene.

My theory: Doom may have quietly turned some heroes already

This lines up with a theory I've had for the last year. There may be some duplicity or underhandedness going on that goes beyond Dr. Doom letting the heroes think he's on their side. He may have already converted some of the heroes, or done it at opportune moments offscreen during Avengers: Doomsday. That would make for a huge reveal in the third act, when it turns out not everyone was on the side they thought, and some of these Avengers have been working against the others. I think there's a little bit of that element of Dr. Doom manipulating all of these heroes and villains.

Interestingly, we're now hearing he's recruiting for his side beyond his witch followers. The post-credit scenes confirmed it for Hulk, and I'm tying Peter Parker to that based on the glitching screen. Now there's leaked concept art going even further, lining up with industry insiders who claim Sam Wilson, Gambit and others will fight on Dr. Doom's side.

I think the movie already goes pretty hard. There was apparently a reported test screening where maybe some of the higher ups at Disney reacted with: "What is this movie? It's not an Avengers movie. There's no comic relief. Everybody is dying." But the title is literally Avengers: Doomsday. It isn't going to end with the Avengers triumphant and everybody feeling good, because then how would we get Avengers: Secret Wars?

Doom's lineup might be a final tease for Avengers: Secret Wars

Since I've brought up Secret Wars, here's a final thought. Part of me wonders whether these Avengers lined up on Dr. Doom's side appear right at the end of the film, to foreshadow who will be with Doom by the time we get to Avengers: Secret Wars. We might even be in Battleworld by the time Doomsday ends.

Which of the five heroes in this reported lineup would you be most surprised to see fighting for Doctor Doom?
