Avengers Doomsday Leak Claims to Reveal Doctor Doom's Tragic Backstory and a Multiverse Ending Finale

A newly circulated plot description lays out an alleged opening on the X-Men's Earth, a Captain America family twist, and a finale where two realities collide, though it comes with real reasons for skepticism.

A massive, highly detailed plot description for Avengers Doomsday started circulating on Twitter about an hour before I sat down to cover it. This one was not dropped anonymously on 4chan or Reddit, and I have the full text to read through and annotate against what we already know about the film.

Before going any further, the usual caveat applies. Anything that does not come directly from Marvel Studios should be taken with a grain of salt, though over the eight years I have been covering this stuff, some of the craziest anonymous leaks have ended up being true. If this would ruin your experience of Doomsday, now is the time to stop reading. I will also flag upfront that after one read through, this looks like it may have been translated from another language, since there are some genuinely garbled details I had to reread to figure out.

The leak opens with the X-Men's Earth 10005 launching an attack that destroys New York

According to the leak, it begins on Earth 10005 with Professor X and Magneto playing chess while devising a plan to attack another Earth using a bomb built by Beast. Another Earth, 96238, appears on the horizon, and Sentinels alongside Magneto travel to New York carrying the bomb. Deadpool and Wolverine discover Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man there, leading to a rooftop fight that Spider-Man wins, but too late. Magneto and what the leak calls "the Guardians," which I take to mean the Sentinels given the translation issues, have already destroyed New York and New Jersey.

Wolverine tries to explain what is happening as Spider-Man kneels amid the destruction, but Magneto finds them and steals the device needed to activate the bomb. Spider-Man attacks and is defeated, and Wolverine cannot save him in time. From Charles Xavier's window, Sam Raimi's Earth explodes, and Magneto and Deadpool escape through the portal, leaving Wolverine behind.

Captain America allegedly settles down with Peggy Carter until a god-like Loki warns of an incursion

The story then shifts to Tony Stark's funeral, where Steve speaks with several heroes including Ant-Man before setting off to return the Infinity Stones. Traveling through time, he chooses to stay with Peggy, and they have a son. One day, Loki visits, and Steve initially suspects an attack, but this Loki explains he is a different, god-like version who now controls the timelines of the multiverse.

He warns Steve about the TVA and says their presence in this era is causing an incursion, and that the timeline will soon be destroyed because it should never have existed, that Steve should not have stayed or had a child. To save them, Loki offers to transport the family to a universe where they do not exist, the Fantastic Four's universe, Earth 828, and gives Steve a card to contact him. Steve and his family accept and live there for ten years.

Doctor Doom is introduced through Reed Richards and revealed to rule Latveria after overthrowing a brutal regime

Ten years later, Reed Richards, Johnny Storm, and The Thing are at a baseball game when Steve and his son help with a stadium accident. Ben notices something unusual, and they race home to the Baxter Building on an alert, only to find calm and Dr. Doom there with Sue Storm, Herbie, and Franklin. Reed knows Victor well from studying together at university, and Sue knows him because he rules Latveria, which the leak notes is not part of "the Life Foundation." It is well known Victor lost his wife and son, and that he became ruler of Latveria only after overthrowing its brutal regime with his Doombots.

Victor is described as Earth's own version of Doctor Strange, a master of magic and sorcery, which along with rumors of witches makes Sue nervous. He warns Reed that their Earth may be the next incursion victim, explaining that when the fabric between two realities tears, the centers of each are drawn together, and once an incursion succeeds, both universes cease to exist. Reed and Victor investigate and find three anomalies in the same location, which turn out to be Steve's family, now grown, with Steve bearded and James around ten or eleven. Steve explains how he ended up there, and they are warned about the collapsing multiverse.

The Avengers teams merge in Wakanda and Talokan before turning to a three cannon plan

Thor and his adopted daughter Love are traveling together while Love suffers nightmares about the incursions and appears to be dying from the multiverse's collapse. Thor leaves her at New Asgard and heads to the Fantastic Four's ship, boarding the Excelsior and reuniting with Steve. The ship docks at a new Avengers Tower where Sam Wilson's team argues with Bucky over who should lead. Steve reunites with Sam, Scott Lang, Bucky, and shares a moment with Yelena Belova discussing Natasha, then rallies both teams with a Captain America style speech about the incursions and the wider cosmic crisis.

Sam and Steve travel to Wakanda, where Shuri is already working on the crisis, and the group learns T'Challa has died. A smaller group heads to Talokan, where the sky has turned red and Namor has used all of Talokan's water to build a defensive barrier. Sue crosses the barrier and, after Namor proves hostile, uses her diplomatic skills to unite Wakanda and Talokan. Back in Wakanda, no solution is found, and Reed starts to believe the multiverse's fate always ends in death, though he stays open to alternatives.

Doom suggests attacking the X-Men's Earth to stop the incursion, Sam pushes for diplomacy, and Namor argues bloodshed is the only path. Scott dismisses using the quantum realm but mentions his past encounter with Kang, prompting a pointed look from Doom. Steve refuses to touch the Infinity Stones. A joke from Reed about wishing Galactus were around gives him the idea to build three massive cannons, one on each Earth, to fire a force that permanently separates the universes before time runs out.

Three teams split up, and the X-Men mansion mission ends in a brutal, comedic fight

The group splits into three teams. One stays in Wakanda to build a cannon using its existing technology. A second goes to the Baxter Building on Earth 828 to build another. The most important team, tasked with reaching Earth 10005 and convincing its heroes to help, includes Victor, Reed with Herbie, Sam, Yelena, and Shuri. Steve tells Thor he feels uneasy around Doom and mentions Loki, and the two set off using Loki's map to find the TVA, while Sue admits to Shuri that something feels wrong with Victor and the two explore the problem on their own.

The Earth 10005 team lands at the X-Men mansion and is immediately attacked by Sentinels. The X-Men, hardened by past incursions, trust no one and assume the visitors mean to destroy them. Nightcrawler stalks them through the halls, and in the danger room Yelena ignores Reed's orders and fights Mystique, who shapeshifts into Yelena and then Natasha to needle her before Yelena regains the upper hand. Shuri and Gambit fight to a draw, Reed's fight with Deadpool ends with a comedic Deadpool 2 style moment of Wade sitting on Reed's face, and Cyclops fires an optic blast that appears to kill Sam Wilson.

Beast interrupts the fight and, realizing the visitors mean no harm, leads them to the medical bay where Monica Rambeau is trapped, gravely ill from being stuck in the wrong reality, which Beast says is accelerating her home Earth's incursion. Reed and Doom then meet Xavier and Magneto and pitch the cannon plan as an alternative to the destructive bomb, and manage to convince them to join.

Loki turns up dead at the end of time, and Doctor Doom is revealed as the one who killed him

Back on Earth 616, Steve and Thor find the TVA destroyed and littered with corpses, with Mobius helping them track Loki to the end of time, where they find him dead, his heart ripped from his body. The Watcher tells them a group of Doom's followers were responsible, then sends them to Earth 10005, where everyone is in danger. When Steve and Thor arrive, Reed refuses to believe Victor is behind it, but Doom unleashes half a dozen Sentinels on the Avengers and X-Men.

Doom fights and defeats the Avengers and the X-Men, severely wounding Magneto's arm. Mystique, who saves Magneto, and Nightcrawler, who teleports everyone to safety, are both killed by Doom. The Brotherhood, including this universe's Scarlet Witch, Polaris, and Quicksilver, arrives and destroys the remaining Sentinels, but Doom finds what his universe's Scarlet Witch was after. Steve tries to save this world's Wanda, but Doom stuns him and kidnaps both her and Steve. Victor then uses the Ultimate Nullifier to destroy Earth 10005 entirely, and the surviving heroes escape to Earth 828.

Doctor Doom's tragic backstory centers on a family lost to a multiverse experiment gone wrong

Back on Earth 616, Reed and Sue tell everyone Doom's history. Bucky sets out on a personal mission to save Steve. A witch impersonating the real, now dead Peggy Carter tells Doom the group is hiding in the Baxter Building, orders an attack, reveals herself as a witch, and kidnaps James. As the Baxter Building comes under attack and nears explosion, Franklin, admired by Xavier as an Omega level mutant, saves everyone. Thor travels to Earth 616 with a new squad including Jane Foster, Heimdall, an Infinity War era Loki, Valkyrie, and Korg, alongside the people of Wakanda, leaving only two Earths remaining in the entire multiverse as a portal opens leading toward the final confrontation.

In Latveria, Doom returns Steve to his castle, where a resurrected illusion of Peggy leads him to an altar with a chair rigged with green magic, revealed to be Death herself. Doom arrives with a crying James and explains to a restrained Steve that Steve's interference in his life caused his downfall. Doom says he was once a family man like Steve, that he met his wife Valeria and had a son, and that a routine multiverse experiment ten years earlier failed because Loki's transport of Steve to Earth 828 caused an anomaly, killing his wife and son and leaving him disfigured. Doom then grabs James and kills him.

The leak introduces three witches working with Doom alongside Doctor Strange, who wears a three eyed helmet: Death in green, the Ancient One in orange, and Clea in purple. Doom personally ripped out Loki's heart, which is now displayed alongside spellbooks, and he corrupted Strange and Clea in the dark dimension into believing he is the only way to save the multiverse. Doom orders Strange to cast a spell using Loki's heart and Wanda's magic, with his followers being the leaders of every destroyed universe, all working toward his real goal of allowing a final incursion so he can rebuild the multiverse and resurrect his lost family.

The finale allegedly pits two full Earths against each other before reality is remade

On Earth 616, Sentry senses something wrong and encounters Vision with Tommy and Billy, who activates a Tony Stark protocol warning the world's heroes that stopping the incursion may be impossible. Deadpool returns, having abandoned the Earth 10005 team, bringing a multiversal team of Blade, Elektra, and Ghost Rider. A war erupts in Latveria between Wakanda, Thor's army, the Avengers, and the Fantastic Four against Doom's followers and hundreds of Doombots, while Namor and Shuri work together to trigger a tsunami that destroys many Doombots, and Shuri and Bucky infiltrate the castle to rescue Steve.

Meanwhile New York comes under direct attack in a scene the leak compares to 2012's Avengers, with a large new roster including Tom Holland's Spider-Man, Jean Grey, Punisher, the Defenders, Wong, America Chavez, Cassie Lang, Kate Bishop, Ms. Marvel, Star-Lord, Vision, She-Hulk, Hulk, and Captain Marvel with the Guardians of the Galaxy defending Avengers Tower. Sentry flies into space to try to stop the coming Earth with his bare hands, buying time for others to escape.

On Earth 828, Sue, pregnant, along with Franklin and Charles Xavier, are aboard Reed's ship, the Ark, meant to survive the collapse. Charles links minds across the X-Men and Avengers so they can coordinate, but one of Doom's witches intercepts a farewell message from Yelena to Bob, teleports aboard, kills Charles, and kidnaps Sue and Franklin. Cyclops, Reed, Sam, and Magneto arrive too late to stop it.

Back at Doom's castle, the combined heroes initially defeat the Doombots, but Doom fights and beats them all one by one. Steve's hammer shatters against Doom's sword, and Bucky sacrifices himself to save him. The three witches kill Ghost Rider, and Shuri defeats one of Doom's followers before dying of her wounds. Thor receives a call from Odin and gains new yellow armor and lightning, briefly rivaling Doom, but Doom eventually drains his power and cuts off his hand, defeating the Avengers. Reed's ship automatically flees Earth 828 without Sue and Franklin as the two worlds finally collide. Strange completes the spell in time for Doom to alter the multiverse itself, and reality as it exists ceases to be. The two Earths collide, the screen fades to black, and Doom appears in white armor seated beside Doctor Strange.

Why I am treating parts of this leak as believable and other parts as very unlikely

I think two things can be true at once here. This could be a compilation, possibly assembled with the help of something like a chatbot, stitching together recent internet theories such as the Ultimate Nullifier speculation. At the same time, some of the details about the final battle genuinely read like the kind of crazy crossover this film is supposed to deliver.

One detail that does not sit right with me is Ghost Rider being introduced and immediately killed off, given that Ryan Gosling has just been cast in a Ghost Rider film that is not coming out until 2028. I do not think Marvel would want to undercut a full introduction of that character less than 24 months out by killing a variant of him first, only for audiences to wonder why they already saw him die by the time his own film arrives.

I also do not believe Doom is actually holding the Ultimate Nullifier in this story, despite the small silver disc seen in the trailer that some assumed was Mjolnir flying out a window. We already went through this with the Fantastic Four film, where everyone thought Reed grabbing an antenna off a building was the Ultimate Nullifier when it was not. I suspect this is some of Doom's own technology rather than the real device.

I am also not convinced Deadpool appears much beyond the opening scene. His comic relief and fourth wall breaking do not fit the tone this film has been set up to have, and the directors have said this is the most serious, most somber film in the franchise so far. It would be surprising to me if Deadpool had scenes in the middle of the X-Men and Avengers fight and again in the third act, since every appearance risks pulling audiences out of the serious moments the film seems to be building toward, though I could be wrong about that.

Does the family tragedy at the center of Doom's plan change how you think the final battle plays out?
