Avengers: Doomsday Leak Claimed Doctor Doom Is Hunting Heroes Who Caused Incursions
An insider report from August 2025 pointed to Doom's motivation, why it would set him against the heroes of the 616, and what he might want with Franklin Richards
In August 2025, an industry insider claimed to have revealed Doctor Doom's ultimate motivation in Avengers: Doomsday: he is going after people in the multiverse who have created incursions. If that report is right, it would explain why Doom lines up against the heroes of the 616, and possibly why he needed to kidnap Franklin Richards in the first place.
Until then, one question had hung over every leak about the film. What in the world is Doom actually doing in it? Why is it called Doomsday, and why does it involve our timeline if he really comes from the 828, where we last saw him taking Franklin Richards? Later in this piece I also get into why the TVA and Loki might be part of the answer.
Why I doubted the earlier Avengers: Doomsday plot leaks
By the time this report surfaced, a ton of different Avengers: Doomsday plot leaks had hit the internet. Mysteriously, they all seemed to stop halfway through the story, or shortly after the beginning of the film.
You could say that was because Marvel Studios had not finished the script. I thought it a lot more likely that people were simply trying to deduce what would logically happen based on what had already been set up. Still, one of the main questions has remained: what in the world is Dr. Doom actually doing in this film?
An insider says Doom is targeting whoever created incursions
The claim came from an industry insider who, while most of his scoops these days sit behind paywalls, has had major Marvel scoops in the past. Major Hollywood trades like The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline still cite him as the source of some of their stories.
One of his latest updates indicated, point blank, that Doom's motivation is going after people in the multiverse who have created incursions. That is how he would end up opposed to the 616 heroes, because our heroes have had their fair share of moments where they "touch the multiverse", as Kang would say, over the course of the Multiverse Saga.
Steve Rogers, Peter Parker and Doctor Strange could all be on Doom's list
The very first of those moments seems to have come at the end of Avengers: Endgame. We had also heard very recently that Steve Rogers may have created one of the first incursions. That would be why Doom would be after Captain America.
By that exact same reasoning, he would also be after our Peter Parker and our Doctor Strange. Peter is still on the 616, but Strange is in parts unknown. The last time we saw him, he was about to enter the Dark Dimension with Clea, and who knows where he has been since.
Monica Rambeau and America Chavez put the 616 in the firing line
The list does not end there, because other heroes have gone their own way and stayed wherever they ended up. As we heard in Multiverse of Madness, the longer you are in a part of the universe you are not supposed to be in, the more unstable it becomes. At least one Avenger, Monica Rambeau, is still in what we assume is the merged X-Men timeline, the 10005. She is not where she is supposed to be and has not been for some time. We would add Scarlet Witch to the list, but for the time being she seems to be out of the picture.
The 616 is also harbouring someone who does not belong there: America Chavez. Since the films allude to her never having found her home timeline, she has technically been in the wrong part of the multiverse the entire time she has been travelling it. They do not seem to explain whether moving from one universe to another would undo that destabilisation, but since Multiverse of Madness she has stayed in the 616. So our sacred timeline has heroes scattered where they should not be while also hosting a hero who should not be here. According to multiverse logic, all of that would lead to destabilisation and incursions, which puts Doom on a war path against our heroes and the timelines they are in, like the X-Men's 10005. To me, that is a really solid reason for Doom to go against our heroes in the first place.
Doom may not really be from Earth 828
The films seem to have alluded to Doom being from the 828 with the empty Latveria chair at the world meeting. That does seem to be where he is from, but I said at the time, "I would also not be surprised at all if he's not actually from the 828." He could have simply travelled there to grab Franklin Richards because he originally comes from a world where an incursion occurred.
Even if he is from the 828, unless they establish the backstory of Reed and Victor von Doom being college roommates, they could make him a current 828 resident who is really a multiversal transplant. If he originally came from a timeline that was blown up by incursions, and he was the only survivor, that would explain his drive to end incursions altogether. Either way, the 828 is tied in because that is where he kidnapped Franklin.
Why Doom might need Franklin Richards
So what does Doom need with Franklin Richards? If he can already travel the multiverse at will, he does not need Franklin for that. He also seems powerful enough to at least take on the Avengers and the X-Men, so he would not seem to need Franklin's power just to beat those heroes.
He may, however, see Franklin as a way to possibly restore his own lost universe, if he is not from the 828. Even if he is, whatever he lost to incursions, his plan could be to stop the Avengers from going to the wrong parts of the multiverse and then maybe fix the incursions themselves with Franklin's immense power. We have had other theories about why Doom went after Franklin, and I think there may still be a hint left in that post credits scene. Either way, this starts to give a logical, clear picture of why the 828, the 616 and presumably the 10005 are all involved.
A villain who sees himself as the hero, like Thanos
This also explains the narrative we had been told, that we would see from Victor von Doom what we saw from Thanos in Infinity War: a villain who sees himself as the hero and is sympathetic because his reasons are logical. If Doom sees incursions killing trillions of life forms across the multiverse, it would be logical for him to see himself as a hero who must stop them at all costs, no matter which heroes have to die or be defeated at his hands, if he is saving billions and trillions of lives in entire timelines.
In that, he would definitely see himself as righteous, doing whatever it takes with a sort of Machiavellian bent to become God Emperor Doom and hold the power of the multiverse in his hands. That power was pretty much in Kang's hands, or He Who Remains' hands, for quite some time. Now it is definitely in Loki's hands, but it is still unclear whether Doom knows that.
A possible race to reach Loki at the TVA
A set leak posted to social media showed that the film was definitely going to spend time in the TVA, and Chris Hemsworth's stunt double was in that shot, which suggested Thor would be making his way there. With the Avengers after Loki, Doom may be after Loki as well, and it might just become a race to reach him first without anybody knowing how to get to the TVA.
Even though Doom may not need Franklin to travel the multiverse, he might need him to navigate to the TVA. That would not explain how the Avengers get there, though, and that is a theory for another time. For now, I think this plot point checks the boxes: fighting our heroes, travelling the multiverse and perhaps actually needing Franklin Richards to get to Loki.
Do you agree that Doom hunting the heroes who caused incursions answers a lot of the questions about Avengers: Doomsday and fits everything we knew about the film?
