Partysaurus Rex reaction: is the Toy Story Toons short fun?
Rex turns bath time into a party, the water keeps rising, and we ended up laughing and thinking back to our own childhood bath rules
Partysaurus Rex is a short we found fun and goofy: a bathtub party that kept going wrong as the water kept rising. This Toy Story Toons short from Pixar (2012), with Wallace Shawn voicing Rex, follows the toy dinosaur after he gets called a party pooper. By the end, our verdict was simple: "It's just goofy."
Rex gets called a party pooper, and we thought it was harsh
The short opens with a party, complete with bubbles and a giant bubble on the floor. Then Rex gets labeled a party pooper. Our first reaction was that it felt unfair. "That's mean," we said, because Rex wasn't trying to spoil anything.
From there the action moves to bath time. There's a warning about flooding the house, and a mention of dinner at grandma's instead. Rex ends up in the bathroom with the bath toys, and they want to party.
Rex turns on the water, and we worry he'll flood the house
Once the party gets going, Rex reaches for the cold water. The bad part was the fear that he was going to flood the house, and we didn't think he was going to turn the water off. Along the way we couldn't help noticing his arms: "He's got little arms."
When the call came for a little more bubbly, the answer was no. "This is such a bad idea." We noticed the water getting higher and higher, and from that point it felt like the situation kept going downhill.
The shower head and the overflow
At one point we wondered whether the shower would start. It did, and it began to rain inside the bathroom. A line about the floaters having all the fun got a laugh from us: "That was funny." Soon the toys were all going out of the tub, and the warnings about overflowing came thick and fast.
Our verdict on Partysaurus Rex
When it ended, our reaction was "That was fun." We called it goofy, then said it again: "So goofy."
It also took us back to bath time as kids. There was a memory of parents who got to where they would put a line in the tub as a rule not to go over. Did we ever go over? Sometimes, a few times. So, kids, don't do that.
