Shintani Reportedly Designing Dragon Ball Super Moro Arc, Plus a New York Comic Con Beerus Panel Set for October 8

I am correcting my earlier single source report as leaks point to Shintani, while a one hour Dragon Ball Super Beerus panel lands just before the recut premieres.

Geekdom101 (AI-assisted)20 August 2026 · Editor: Digital Fox Talent Editorial Team 1,345 words · 6 min read

Published 20 August 2026. Words like "tonight" or "next week" refer to that date.

Leaks now point to Shintani as the character designer for the Dragon Ball Super Moro arc, known as the Galactic Patrol, which contradicts what I passed along from a single source last night. On top of that correction, New York Comic Con has announced a special Dragon Ball Super Beerus panel for Thursday, October 8, just as the enhanced recut of the anime gets ready to premiere.

Dragon Ball Super Beerus is a recut, an enhanced version of the first three arcs of Dragon Ball Super, and there is news on its episode count and a possible time slot as well.

Correcting My Single Source Report: Shintani Is Said to Be the Moro Arc Designer

Last night on my show, we were discussing Dragon Ball Super's Moro arc, and I said that I had heard from a single source that Shintani would not be the character designer for the Moro arc. That is what I was told. I am always honest that when I hear something from a single source rather than a double source, it should be taken with a grain of salt, and I said exactly that at the time. I also said I hoped I was wrong: "I'll be the first one to tell you that I hope I'm wrong."

Because it was not double sourced, I did not publish a dedicated news piece on it. I usually do not report something as actual news unless I have definitive confirmation. Now conflicting reports have come out stating that Shintani is the character designer for the Moro arc, and at least that is what has come out through leaks. So first of all, I am glad that the earlier report was wrong.

Any time I report something that turns out to be incorrect, or a report needs modifying, I come back and say that it was wrong and give the corrected news. It is worth noting that Shintani has not been publicly revealed as the character designer. This is inside information, not an official announcement.

Why Shintani Does Not Mean Every Moro Episode Will Look Like Broly

I think Shintani on the Moro arc is something we all hope for, because he did great work on Dragon Ball Super: Broly. But as I said on the show, great work on Broly does not mean every episode of the Moro arc is going to look like the Broly movie. There are going to be a lot of different people working on it, so do not expect that.

At the same time, it is for sure not going to look like Dragon Ball Super did around episode 5, when the production collapsed. That is something they are avoiding, which is why they started working on this thing earlier this year, and that is why it is most likely not coming out until next year. They have plenty of time to work on it, whereas Dragon Ball Super only had, I think, about eight weeks of preparation time.

New York Comic Con Is Hosting a Dragon Ball Super Beerus Panel on October 8

The other piece of news is something I was wondering could happen, and now it definitely is happening. That surprises me, though not in a bad way. New York Comic Con is going to have a special Dragon Ball Super Beerus panel. New York Comic Con has hosted a number of Dragon Ball panels in the past, including one for Dragon Ball Daima. There might have been two for Daima, but I genuinely do not remember.

The panel was held on Thursday, October 8, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., so it is a one hour panel. They have not announced whether Akio is going to be there, although he usually is at these events, and they have not announced any voice actors or production people yet. I am sure those announcements are coming.

The timing is what makes this interesting. The convention runs October 8 through 11, and October is the month Dragon Ball Super Beerus is set to start. So this panel lands right before the show actually premieres. I think they will probably have a premiere date out before then.

I Doubt the Next Beerus Trailer Debuts at the Panel, but I Hope for a Champa Glimpse

About a month ago, I said the next Dragon Ball Super Beerus trailer is coming. I am uncertain they are going to show it at this panel. I believe the next trailer will actually be out before the panel. I would not call it the final trailer, since that might not be the case.

So what could they possibly show? They have already shown Goku versus Beerus, and they have teased some of Resurrection F. I do not know this for certain, but I genuinely hope we get a glimpse of the Champa material at New York Comic Con. As I have reported, and as I said on the show yesterday, the Champa arc is going to be only seven episodes. The whole Universe 6 tournament, with Hit and everything else, is only going to be seven episodes, and to me that is not enough.

If they did longer episodes, around 35 or 40 minutes, I would understand. But Dragon Ball has never done that before, the only exception being the first episode of Daima. As far as I know, these episodes are still going to be regular anime length, around 22 to 24 minutes, not full length hour long episodes. I have seen some people comment about that, but "I would not hold my breath about that at all." I would still like them to show us at least something.

Dragon Ball Super Beerus Could Run 19 or 20 Episodes

I also want to clarify the episode count. I was told six episodes for Beerus, seven for Resurrection F and seven for the Champa arc, which adds up to 20 episodes. But yesterday another source said it is 19 episodes.

Nineteen is a weird number, all things considered. Twenty makes sense, because that is almost like a full cour running from October to February, but 19 is a bit off. Maybe they are going to take a break. For now, let's just say 19 to 20 episodes.

One Piece's Reported Hiatus Could Open a Sunday Slot on October 18

One last piece of information comes from someone I want to give a shout out to, who says that One Piece is going on hiatus on October 11, so its time slot is available on October 18. Since Beerus is premiering in October, this seems to make sense. I am not saying it is going to air on October 18, because I genuinely do not know what the new Dragon Ball Super time slot is. But I think it makes perfect sense that if One Piece goes on break on October 11, October 18 would follow.

One Piece currently airs in Japan on Sunday nights. For anyone in the other hemisphere, in North America, South America or maybe parts of Europe depending on your sleep schedule, that means Dragon Ball Super Beerus, if it takes One Piece's slot, would air on Sunday mornings. That is not bad, because a lot of people do not work on weekends and could catch it as it airs. I will be working, because I have to cover it.

When Daima aired on Friday mornings, I saw people saying they had to rush home from work for it. I think a Sunday morning slot would make things a little easier, and it would be better than the previous slot, which fell on Saturday night for us. Saturday night was tough for a lot of people. I missed birthday parties and parts of mixed martial arts pay per view events, the prelims rather than the main shows, because I was covering Dragon Ball.

Recapping: Shintani Is Great News, and I Expect a Modest Panel

To recap, the Moro arc character designer is said to be Shintani, and I think that is great news. Dragon Ball Super Beerus looks set for 19 or 20 episodes in total. As for the New York Comic Con panel, "I don't think it's going to be anything groundbreaking", but I will most likely still cover it. I am not expecting anything related to Moro at this panel.

Is a seven episode Champa arc enough for the Universe 6 tournament, or should they have given it more room?
