Jacob Elordi as James Bond? We Have Serious Doubts About His Height and His Sense of Humor
The casting chatter around Jacob Elordi taking over 007 has us questioning whether the towering actor fits the role at all.
Talk of Jacob Elordi stepping into James Bond's shoes has been circulating, and we wanted to weigh in on whether it actually makes sense. Our short answer: we do not see him as Bond at all, even though we think he is a fantastic actor.
This matters to fans because Bond casting debates always spark strong reactions, and Elordi's name being floated raises real questions about how a new 007 era might look and feel compared to the actors who defined the role before him.
Jacob Elordi's Height Is the Biggest Sticking Point for Us
The first issue we raised is simple: who is going to be taller than James Bond? Elordi stands around 6-foot-6, and the idea of a Bond that size running around fighting everybody just does not sit right with us. As we put it, "He's going to be 6-ft-6 Bond running around fighting everybody. It's going to look stupid."
How Do You Fight Jaws When You're as Big as Jaws?
We also pointed out that Bond regularly has to go up against giant villains in these films, and that dynamic gets complicated if 007 himself is a giant. We specifically brought up Jaws, the towering henchman from the classic films, asking, "How do you fight Jaws when you're as big as Jaws?" Part of what makes those confrontations work on screen is the size difference between Bond and his opposition, and Elordi's height could undercut that entirely.
Does Jacob Elordi Have the Right Sense of Humor for Bond?
Beyond the physical concern, we admitted we simply do not know Elordi personally, and we were careful to note that is not fair to him since we do not know the man. Still, our impression is that he comes across as too serious, and it is not clear he has the sense of humor the role has historically required. We compared him to previous Bonds: Daniel Craig can be pissy on screen but still has a sense of humor, Brosnan definitely has a sense of humor, and Roger Moore definitely has a sense of humor. We acknowledged Elordi could still surprise us, saying, "the answer could be yes, he does. And let him show."
Our Overall Verdict on Elordi as 007
Even with that openness to being wrong, the height issue remains the bigger hurdle for us. As we summed it up, "I just can't get over a 6-ft-6 Bond. I just can't do it. I just can't see it." We left the door open that there are a few other factors at play too, but for now our stance is skeptical, wrapping it up with, "but we'll see."
Do you think Jacob Elordi's height would actually hurt his believability as James Bond, or could he pull it off?
