Why Jessie's Tire Swing Scene May Be the Strongest Moment in Toy Story 5

Spoilers ahead if you haven't seen Toy Story 5 yet. There is a scene in the film that made fans cry, and for me it stood out above the rest: the moment Jessie goes to the tree with a tire swing on it.

I love the Toy Story movies, and there are so many emotional parts in a bunch of them. Even so, this was the one scene in this film that stood out for me.

Jessie returns to the tire swing tree she shared with Emily

Jessie feels like she is being abandoned once again, this time by Bonnie. She goes to this tree where she shared so many memories with Emily. It is here that she sees a message on the tree, and it says "Jessie was here."

She then calls the horse over to dig up a lunch box. Inside, she finds a lot of different things that were from recent times. One of the items in the lunch box is a card with a heartfelt message.

The lunch box redeems what was probably decades of Jessie feeling unworthy

Throughout most of her life, Jessie thought that she was not worthy, because Emily had donated her. She ended up in Al's apartment and almost went to the museum with the Roundup gang. In this scene, though, she realizes that all along she was really there for Emily when Emily truly needed her.

What was probably decades of feeling hopeless and lost, of feeling like she had no purpose for her entire life with Emily, was redeemed in this very moment. Emily had named her daughter after Jessie.

Why I think this is probably the strongest scene in Toy Story 5

I heard so many people crying in my theater during this scene. It is one of my favorite scenes, and I would call it "probably the strongest scene in the entire Toy Story 5 movie."

Do you agree that Jessie's return to the tire swing tree is the emotional high point of Toy Story 5, or did another scene move you more?
