Toy Story 5 Reaction: 'The Answer Is Now Yes, Of Course We Do'

We just got back from seeing Toy Story 5, and the emotions hit hard. This was a genuinely fun watch, and our first reaction out of the theater is overwhelmingly positive.

Going in, we admitted to the same skepticism a lot of fans probably share about a fifth entry in this franchise. As we put it, "honestly, I am surprised me how good they're able to make all five of these Toy Story movies and the fact that every single time we're like, do we really need another Toy Story? And the answer is now yes, of course we do."

Jessie Gets Real Focus This Time Around

One of the biggest highlights for us was the character development, and specifically how the story shifts attention toward Jessie. "I love the character development in it. I love the story that they told and I love the fact that they actually kind of focused on Jessie on this time around," we said. That choice gave the film a nice change of pace, even though there was still plenty of time spent with the familiar toys audiences already know and love.

The Movie Tackles How Kids Play With Toys Today

We also pointed out how the film addresses the evolution of toys and what kids are actually playing with now, which these days leans heavily toward technology, screen time, and devices. According to our reaction, the movie built that shift into its world in a way that felt natural rather than forced, to the point where it hit close to home. As we described it, "you're like, oh that really does happen like literally to all of us."

This reaction was just our immediate, out-of-the-theater take. We noted there are other elements of Toy Story 5 we plan to dig into more deeply, saying "there's all these other different elements that we will go further in depth with in our full review but right now that is just our social out of the theater reaction."
