Avengers Doomsday Footage May Show Battleworld Being Forged Together

New footage appears to show us flying through the clouds of an atmosphere toward a version of Manhattan that has been completely wrecked. I assume this is some version of Manhattan because that green section in the middle looks a lot like Central Park. I think we might be seeing our very first bird's eye view of Latverion, also known as Battleworld, as it is in the process of being forged together.

How Doctor Doom Built Battleworld in Jonathan Hickman's Secret Wars

In Jonathan Hickman's Secret Wars from 2015, the 616 Earth and the 1610 Earth are collapsing and crashing into each other. Doctor Doom ends up taking pieces of this Earth and several other Earths to form what is called Battleworld, a vast patchwork of around 42 different sections taken from different Earths and realities.

Specifically, the continents of Battleworld include a Manhattan district that is actually separated into four parts. The city is a merged 616 Manhattan combined with a 1610 Manhattan. Above these Manhattans hovers the Inhuman city of Attilan.

My Theory: Three Manhattans Merging Into One

That would be 616 with its New Avengers Tower, 828 with its Baxter Building, and 10005 with its rightful section of Liberty, tied to the events of the Liberty Island incident in the first X-Men film.

But for those three Manhattans to come together, rows and rows of buildings from all three of those cities are going to have to be mowed down first.

What Kevin Feige and the Russo Brothers Have Said About the Connection

Kevin Feige has indicated that Avengers: Doomsday will hand off to Avengers: Secret Wars in ways that pretty much follow Hickman's comic storyline. After the first teaser was shown at CinemaCon in April, Feige told Fandango that "Secret Wars is as ambitious a project as we've ever embarked on," while adding that the connection between the two films works in a very different way than Infinity War and Endgame did, even though one certainly does lead into the other.

That is pretty much a soft guarantee for Battleworld, as far as I'm concerned. I'll take it. But more recently, when pressed about Battleworld by an interviewer at San Diego Comic-Con, directors the Russo brothers played coy, saying "We won't confirm or deny whether Battle World appears in either of these films. And we cannot confirm or deny who appears in Battle World if Battle World were to be in one of these films." Yeah, these guys never confirm anything.

It is also possible they end up simply calling this new world by Victor's name instead, as Latverion, rather than Battleworld.

The Void, a Vibranium Desert, and Other Terraforming Clues

What we are seeing here looks like part of this terrifying new continent as it is gradually being stitched together, and it appears to be a world built atop the void, the TVA dumping ground we saw in Loki and Deadpool and Wolverine.

I think that is also where we see a vibranium desert floor, with the water being pushed back. There is going to be a lot of interesting terraformation happening in this movie.

It is also possible that this is the world where Ned's Spidey tracker indicated a new Spider-Man had been found.

Do you think this footage is really our first look at Battleworld coming together, or is it something else entirely?
