Avengers Doomsday Reports Point to Doctor Strange, Sylvie and an Evil Ancient One Joining Doom's Coven of Witches

Marvel has already confirmed that Doctor Doom will have followers in Avengers Doomsday, including female followers in robes and masks and one male follower who I believe is Doctor Strange. Benedict Cumberbatch has already confirmed he is in the movie, but we have not heard anything about his role, which most likely means he is one of Doom's followers. Two new reports give more detail on who is standing beside Doom, and I want to break both of them down.

One Leaker Reports Captain America Unmasks a Witch and Finds Peggy Carter

The first report comes from a leaker who has had a lot of reports proven true by the trailers and by Marvel's own reveals, so that leaker is on a pretty good track record right now. The leaker states, "Steve Rogers fights a witch, one of Doom's witches, and when he removes her mask, the witch transforms into Peggy Carter to manipulate him."

From the way that is worded, it sounds like he removes the mask and then the witch changes her face, but I think she actually changes it before the mask comes off, so that when it comes off he just sees Peggy. That would obviously throw Steve for a loop and be very surprising for him.

That leaker also posted a GIF of Sylvie alongside this, which makes sense because we have seen Loki take different shapes before, especially in Avengers Endgame and elsewhere throughout the MCU. Sylvie can do the same thing, so the leaker appears to be telling us that Sylvie is the one doing this shapeshifting, and that she is a follower of Doom.

Why Would Sylvie Help Doom, and What Sophia Di Martino Just Liked

That naturally raises the question of why Sylvie would be helping Doom at all. This ties into an earlier report that said she is doing it to help Loki. The leaker commented directly on someone asking why she would help Doom, saying, "She will be deceived." She will be promised that Doom can save Loki, so Doom is deceiving her. I think Doom is going to deceive a lot of people in this movie, which feels very in character for him.

Here is the interesting part. Sophia Di Martino, who plays Sylvie, liked a comment from a fan asking if she is in Doomsday playing a witch, with the comment reading something like "varia witch" followed by eyes and a heart emoji. At this point it feels expected, because why would Loki and the TVA be in this movie without Sylvie, given how big a role she played across both seasons of Loki, and how much that show is going to matter to everything happening in Doomsday.

It is also worth noting that Doctor Strange has not been revealed in the cast lineup either, which suggests Marvel is saving some surprises for the theater. It really does seem like Sylvie is in this film and that she is one of the witches following Doom, and I think she fits the green cloak that has already been shown.

Clea, Scarlet Witch and Other Names Floated for Doom's Coven

Other rumors point to Clea, which would make sense given how Multiverse of Madness ended, with her appearing to talk to Doctor Strange about incursions and tearing open reality to the Dark Dimension. I think she ultimately takes Doctor Strange to Doom and they both end up following him. I also think Scarlet Witch could be part of this group, and there is a possibility one of the witches could be Agatha. My main guesses for the coven right now are Sylvie, Scarlet Witch, Clea and Doctor Strange.

Leaked Footage Reportedly Shows Doctor Strange Serving Doom

Marvel has already revealed the male follower of Doctor Doom who has an eye in the middle of his mask, which is obviously meant to be Doctor Strange. There has also been a leaked video going around online that looks fairly real, though in the age of AI it is impossible to be certain. It reportedly shows Doctor Strange working for Doctor Doom alongside the other witch followers, functioning as a kind of personal guard around him at all times.

In that footage, Stephen reportedly says there is no throne above his, essentially telling everyone that they are followers of Doctor Doom now, and that he genuinely believes Doom is the answer and is superior. I think he actually is superior. We have already seen it in the trailers, whether through his magic, his genius, or pure force, including the Sentinel rising and him stopping Thor's Stormbreaker with two fingers. He probably has his own plan that he is telling all of his followers is best for the multiverse, which is why they believe him.

An Unconfirmed Rumor Claims an Evil Ancient One Guides Doom Into the Multiverse

A newer claim comes from the account No More Mutants, and I want to stress this is unconfirmed, so treat it as a rumor for now. I really hope it is true because I love it. According to this report, the Ancient One appears in the film as an evil and dark version of herself, having drained the magic of Dormammu's dark dimension. She guides Victor in his first steps toward understanding the multiverse and the dark dimension, where he meets Clea, Doctor Strange, and the goddess of death.

For a time they reportedly study the multiverse and the behavior of various characters, primarily from Earth 616. Doctor Strange is not corrupted in this version. Instead he believes in the Ancient One without realizing she is corrupted, and comes to believe that Kang's Council and the TVA manipulated the multiverse to their liking. He reportedly gets redemption in Secret Wars.

The same report clarifies that Sylvie is not a witch and would never kill Loki or harm her friends at the TVA. I am not sure if that is just this account's opinion, since the earlier leaker's report describes her as a witch. I do not think she would hurt Loki or betray her friends, but I think she believes she is doing the right thing.

Why I Think Doctor Strange Would Logically Side With Doom

If Doom's eyes are opened to the multiverse and he starts opening everyone else's eyes too, I think they would see that the Avengers and others like Spider-Man caused real problems. I have been saying this for a while: if you zoom out and look at everything Steve Rogers, Wanda, and Spider-Man did, they caused a lot of problems for the multiverse, contributing to incursions that would eventually destroy everything.

I think Doctor Strange and Clea would eventually conclude that Doom is right and that stopping the Avengers from continuing to damage the multiverse makes sense, since Doom is trying to fix it. Add an evil version of the Ancient One who never reveals she is corrupted, and it becomes even more compelling for Strange to align with Doom. I think it would be absolutely wild if the Ancient One turned out to be on Doctor Doom's side, because that is an enormous amount of power to have behind him.

This particular rumor does not mention Scarlet Witch, but it does mention Kang's Council and the TVA manipulating the timeline, which I know was originally meant to be central to Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars, built around Kang being angry that the TVA manipulated things. This looks like a version of that idea, but now it is Doom who is angry about the TVA and the Council of Kangs. I hope we get some kind of Kang mention in this movie, because I think it would be awesome.

Matching Doom's Witches to Their Robes

These witches already look great based on what Marvel has shown. It makes sense that the green one would be Sylvie, and the male one with the eye in the mask is obviously Doctor Strange. I think the purple one would be Clea, and the remaining one could be either the Ancient One or Scarlet Witch. We will have to wait and see, but it looks like Doom has some genuinely powerful followers who believe he is right, positioning him as a kind of God Emperor Doom, the hero and salvation of the multiverse. He has a coven, and he has a following, and I cannot wait to see it play out on screen.
