Avengers Doomsday Trailer Reportedly Set to Reveal Mobius and Doctor Strange
The Avengers Endgame Encore re-release promises an exclusive first look at Avengers Doomsday, and a new report claims the next full trailer will unveil two unannounced characters.
Marvel Studios just released the official trailer for Avengers Endgame Encore, and it teases that anyone who goes to see that re-release will get an exclusive look at Avengers Doomsday. I think this means a bit more than people realize, and I want to walk through why.
First, though, I really hope the re-release of Avengers Endgame reclaims the number one spot for the biggest movie of all time. Endgame had that title, then Avatar re-released in theaters and took it back. So I think a little payback is coming with this re-release. If Endgame retakes the top spot, Marvel can say the last Avengers movie was the number one movie of all time, come see the new one. I think that is really good marketing, and the exclusive Doomsday look tied to the re-release is smart in the same way.
Three Different Pieces of New Doomsday Material Are Coming
I think people are lumping these together, but I believe the next trailer, this exclusive Doomsday look tied to Endgame Encore, and the new footage added to Endgame itself are three separate things. The new Endgame Encore footage is about four minutes long and ties directly into the story. That new footage is one thing, and it connects you into Doomsday, but I think we might also get a special look before the movie itself comes out, not a fullblown trailer.
We already know another full trailer is coming. On top of that, I think we get another special look before Endgame plays in theaters, similar to how the earlier special look for Doomsday wasn't billed as trailer two but still delivered a ton of new footage. So between the Endgame re-release footage, a special look, and a full trailer, we are in for a lot of new Avengers Doomsday material in a short window.
What the New Endgame Encore Footage Actually Shows
Based on what we know, the new footage is pretty much Steve Rogers going back in time to return the Infinity Stones and then staying in the past with Peggy Carter. Unfortunately, that creates problems for the multiverse, which is what leads into Doomsday. Loki shows up and basically tells him he cannot be there, explaining that he is not the same Loki anymore, that he has been through a lot, and that he wants to help. Loki then takes him to the Fantastic Four's universe.
We also know Steve talks to some people at Tony Stark's funeral in this new footage. Watching Avengers Endgame return to theaters is going to be something else on its own. Their trailer showed audience reactions that bring you right back to that nostalgia, and I do feel like we are in a similar moment again with Spider-Man Brand New Day, the Doomsday trailer, and another trailer still to come.
Report Claims the Next Trailer Will Reveal Mobius and Doctor Strange
According to one insider, word has reached them that the marketing team for Avengers Doomsday wants the final trailer to be very epic. I think everyone would assume that, but I do think they need to go above what people would already expect. I loved the first trailer, but I think the special look we got was even better, much more intense in both what you saw and what you heard with the score. I think they need to top that again, maybe even two steps up, which would be hard without giving too much away.
That insider reportedly says the trailer will introduce two unannounced characters. When I first read that, I wondered if it might be Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man fighting Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, since that would make diehard fans and casual audiences alike react the way No Way Home's three-Spider-Man reveal did. It is uncertain whether Marvel would show that on screen since it is not a huge spoiler at this point, given both characters have already returned elsewhere. But according to that insider, the two characters being introduced are Mobius from the TVA and Doctor Strange, not, as I have seen in comments, some version of Morbius.
Why Mobius and Strange Being on Opposite Sides Matters
This is interesting because, based on what we know, Mobius and Strange are on opposite sides of the conflict. Strange is with Doom because he truly believes Doom is the way to save the multiverse, or at least save some version of it under Doom. Mobius is with Loki, and he believes everyone should have free will rather than having the TVA prune timelines and dictate outcomes.
I truly believe that because Loki is connected to all of these branches and can look into different timelines, he sees Doom coming. I would like to think Loki sends someone he really trusts, Mobius, to start preparing a backup plan. I think plan A is the Avengers, with Steve Rogers and Thor trying to stop Doom outright. Plan B, in case they fail against someone as strong as Doom, is Mobius quietly assembling a contingency to get people out and take them to the void so they can survive and avenge everyone if plan A fails.
Spoiler Territory: Loki's Death and Mobius's Backup Plan
From what we have been hearing, and this is spoiler territory tied to a plot leak covered previously, Loki reportedly dies after Doom kills him, though we are hearing everyone gets resurrected in Avengers Secret Wars. We are also being told that Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine die early on, but I think Mobius picks them up through a TVA portal and takes them to the void, possibly along with others.
Other insiders reportedly say Spider-Man and Wolverine embark on a journey to find a God Loki, who was said to be dead but resurrected, having lost his memory. Spider-Man and Wolverine already know this Loki because he saved them from the incursion of Sam Raimi's world. They reportedly find Doom's prison, where Steve Rogers and others are held, with most of this said to take place in Secret Wars. I still think Loki could use Mobius to get them to the TVA, where Loki explains everything before they head to the void and possibly Battle World, retaining their memories. Loki losing his memory after being resurrected has come up in several plot leaks, tied to Doom winning, creating Battle World, and nobody remembering the past until Wolverine, Spider-Man, and others start waking people up.
Plot Leak Said to Be 80 Percent True, With Key Changes
We previously covered a large plot leak for Avengers Doomsday, and a lot of insiders are reportedly saying it is mostly true. That insider reportedly says 80 percent of the supposed script is true, with the gap explained by changes made after the leak got out. According to that insider, the part about Wanda, Quicksilver, and Polaris getting their own X-Men universe versions is no longer happening, though it was reportedly an early idea for the movie.
That insider also reportedly says the part about several Earth 616 characters protecting Avengers Tower is not happening either, and there is no final battle on Earth 616, since everything takes place in Latveria. It sounds like the X-Men universe ultimately gets destroyed, leaving Earth 616 and Earth 828, the Fantastic Four's universe, with everyone converging on Earth 828 to fight Doom in Latveria. Since Earth 616 does not have a Latveria, a Doom, or a Fantastic Four of its own, I think this is a clever way to use the multiverse and briefly bring everyone into the same universe by the time Secret Wars happens.
Steve Rogers' Brutal Journey and His Son's Fate
That same plot leak said Steve Rogers has a hard time in this movie because Doom kills his son. Chris Evans recently said the journey for Steve Rogers in Avengers Doomsday is brutal, saying the Russos love beating up Steve Rogers, that it is their favorite thing to do, and that to them it is what makes a hero, someone who gets punched so many times but still gets back up, so they keep finding new ways to put him through it. Evans called it brutal and a good examination of Rogers' nature and values.
That leads me to believe his son does die in this movie. But if what we are hearing about Secret Wars is correct, the son eventually gets resurrected and I think ends up reunited with Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter.
When the Next Trailer Might Arrive
We are hearing that the Avengers Doomsday trailer is not coming in November, which points to October, so it is not far away. Apparently marketing is going to step up significantly, with TV spots and other promotions on the way. We are in the thick of it now, with the Endgame re-release right around the corner and Doomsday not far behind.
So, how excited are you for all of this?
