Tom Holland's Spider-Man may get an Avengers: Doomsday post credits scene, insider claims

An Easter egg from Robert Downey Jr. and an insider's claim about Tobey Maguire put Spider-Man in focus for Avengers: Doomsday, while the Punisher special presentation trailer and the return of the Defenders could point toward a bigger street level story for Marvel.

Tom Holland's Spider-Man may get an Avengers: Doomsday post credits scene, insider claims

Tom Holland's Spider-Man might only have a small part in Avengers: Doomsday, possibly as a post credits scene, according to an insider, while Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man was described as the film's main Spider-Man. I like that post credits theory. Beyond Doomsday, I think Marvel Studios looks to be building toward a large street level event with Spider-Man, Daredevil and possibly the Punisher.

That bigger picture runs through the Punisher special presentation trailer, an Easter egg in Daredevil: Born Again confirmed by the head of Marvel Television, and set photos showing the Defenders back for Daredevil: Born Again season 3. My theory on who that crossover could be built to fight comes at the end.

Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom Easter egg showed Tom Holland's Spider-Man symbol

On Easter, Robert Downey Jr. posted a photo of Doctor Doom painting a set of eggs, each showing a different logo. One of those logos was very specific. I have no doubt it was the symbol of Tom Holland's Peter Parker, and most of the fandom seemed to agree. That left many people concluding he must be in the movie, even though what we'd heard up to then was that he wasn't.

One insider then offered a clarification: "For clarification, Tom's Spider-Man might have a small appearance in Doomsday, potentially as a post-credit due to his current situation after Brand New Day. He'll be a major player in Secret Wars." The insider added that Tobey Maguire was, at that point, the main Spider-Man of Avengers: Doomsday.

I don't think anyone is going to complain about Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man being in the film and being the so-called main Spider-Man. But if there's only one Spider-Man in a movie, you're the main Spider-Man no matter what, even if you appear for five minutes. So I don't read the insider as saying Tobey will get a lot of screen time. And if Tom is in it, it seems like it will be brief.

Why a post credits scene for Tom Holland's Spider-Man makes sense to me

Since we'd been hearing that Tom's Spider-Man isn't in the film, it would make sense for a post credits scene to be about him, especially if he's absent for the entire movie. Fans are going to want to know what is going on and where Tom Holland's Spider-Man was.

A post credits scene could show him heading into Secret Wars, or show that he survived the creation of Battleworld and sits outside of it. That would be a cool scene. Maybe they show him with Loki's team. Maybe Loki was working behind the scenes, trying to save people. I think that would be cool.

Tom Holland said he thought Spider-Man: Brand New Day was his favorite

Tom Holland spoke about Spider-Man: Brand New Day ahead of its release and said, "I am so proud of the movie," adding that he might sound biased, but "I think it's my favorite one." That's a big thing to say.

Of course, he was never going to say anything bad about the movie. Even if he thought it was bad, he wasn't going to undermine its promotion and put people off seeing it. But he didn't have to call it his favorite. That was a very specific choice. Yes, he wanted to excite people and get them into theaters, but I feel like that's something you probably wouldn't say unless it's an awesome movie. So I took the fact that he said it as a good sign for the film.

Kingpin may be out as mayor as Marvel builds a street level event

Insiders had been talking for a while about Marvel Studios building toward a big street level event, and I want to say it's to go up against Kingpin eventually. It looked like Daredevil: Born Again season 2 would end with Kingpin no longer mayor.

That's because the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer showed another character giving the key to the city to Spider-Man. Vigilantes were obviously allowed again, and it's usually the mayor who hands over the key to the city. So that character might be the mayor. In my personal opinion, Kingpin is out, because vigilantes are back and Spider-Man is there.

The Punisher special presentation trailer shows Frank Castle still suffering

I thought the Punisher special presentation trailer was awesome, and very dramatic in a good way. There's plenty of action in general, but not much of it with him in the Punisher suit. What it shows is that Frank is still suffering from PTSD. He's been through a lot, but specifically the loss of his family rather than war, even though we do see him picturing soldiers of the past in the room with him who aren't there.

Frank's old friend from his counseling group is back. When we last saw him, he was alive. He was a good friend to Frank, helped him with counseling and ran his group, and he was a big character. But I think he might die, and I think that's what might push Frank over the edge. The official synopsis says, "As Frank Castle searches for meaning beyond revenge, an unexpected force pulls him back into the fight."

So Frank is searching for meaning beyond revenge, and I think he ultimately finds out his friend dies. Unfortunately, I think it makes sense that this friend would die and that's what brings Frank back, making it about revenge again, because he was one of Frank's best friends. His friend being killed would definitely bring him back into the fight.

Who is the little girl, and is Ma Gnucci after Frank?

The girl we see might be Curtis's daughter, and the guy might be his son. We don't know, but I think they're connected in some way because Curtis appears throughout the trailer. I wouldn't be surprised if the little girl is related to Curtis and Frank is going after these people to protect her for him. We also see what I presume is Frank's own daughter in flashbacks, which is probably why he would feel so compelled to protect this girl, especially if she's tied to Curtis.

Ma Gnucci also appears, which is crazy. In the comics she suffers a bad fate, losing all of her limbs, and Frank essentially punts her like a football into a fire. She appears to have her limbs here, so I don't think Frank has done that to her in the MCU. But maybe something happened in the past, Frank already dealt with her and the crime organization she runs, and she is seeking payback. Maybe she's going after the people he loves. Maybe she's the person who killed Curtis.

The trailer doesn't give much, but I think the main components are Curtis, the little girl, since they put a focus on her, and Ma Gnucci, the crime boss. Frank was also set to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. I thought the trailer was very vague, which is very good, because we didn't need much from it. The tone looked awesome, and the Punisher is one of my absolute favorite Marvel characters.

Brad Winderbaum confirmed the Watcher Easter egg in Daredevil: Born Again

Brad Winderbaum, the head of Marvel Television, confirmed a Watcher Easter egg in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 4. Eagle eyed fans spotted what looked like the Watcher through a window in one scene, and Winderbaum posted, "Always watching."

I'm not sure if it's only an Easter egg or if this is the Watcher physically there, wondering what's going on with Daredevil, the Punisher and Kingpin. Either way, it's a cool Easter egg they put in intentionally. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the Watcher in Avengers: Doomsday, and maybe this is a way to connect Daredevil: Born Again to it, since many people have wondered whether Daredevil will be tied to those events. I'd be surprised if Daredevil, the Punisher and the Defenders weren't in Avengers: Secret Wars at least, and I think this could connect Daredevil to Doomsday and/or Secret Wars.

The Defenders return in Daredevil: Born Again season 3 set photos

Spoilers follow for Daredevil: Born Again season 3, along with speculation about how season 2 might end. Set photos from season 3 showed Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter and Finn Jones, meaning Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist are officially back. Ritter was supposed to be in season 2 as well, although she hadn't appeared at that point. I was hoping she'd show up in episode 5, and I wouldn't be surprised if all three appeared at the end of season 2.

In the season 2 trailers, Jessica Jones says that they came after her daughter. Perhaps she and Luke Cage have that daughter together, and perhaps Luke shows up at some point. Maybe when they come to her house, he's there, and the two of them beat down whoever it is, the anti vigilante task force or somebody else. Or maybe he stays behind with their daughter while she's out. Either way, the Defenders are returning.

A street level crossover could take on Kingpin

In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Spider-Man teams up with the Punisher. I didn't think the Defenders would appear in that film, but I thought Daredevil had a high chance. Insiders have stated for a while that Marvel is planning a big street level crossover team up movie, and it seems like the pieces are in place. Spider-Man is with the Punisher, Peter Parker and Matt Murdock already met in No Way Home, the Defenders are back, and Kingpin is obviously going to continue on.

So I think this crossover could be all of these characters going up against Kingpin. Regardless, we need Spider-Man versus Kingpin; we've been waiting on that for too long. Vincent D'Onofrio has said he'd love to be in a movie, but there are rights issues with Sony. At the time of writing, Sony and Marvel had both said that they were working well together, so they could cut a deal if they agreed this was the direction they wanted, and according to some insiders over the preceding months, it seemed like it was. I'm totally here for it. I think it would be a crazy, awesome crossover team up movie.
