Avengers: Doomsday expo teaser: is this Doctor Doom's suit?

Concept art and a projection show at a Disney-hosted marketing expo in China seemed to reveal a comic-accurate Doom, a Battleworld throne and possibly the Ten Rings

Avengers: Doomsday expo teaser: is this Doctor Doom's suit?

Marvel showed what seemed to be the first concept art of Doctor Doom's suit for Avengers: Doomsday, along with a short teaser presented as a projection show. I think this is how Doom is going to look in the movie. The teaser also looked like it could be hinting that Doom takes Kang's place as the big bad and takes his tech too, possibly including the Ten Rings.

Both pieces were on display at a Chinese marketing expo hosted by Disney, where Marvel had a large booth. The art doesn't show Robert Downey Jr.'s face, but the design looks fantastic to me.

Marvel's Doctor Doom concept art suggests his final Avengers: Doomsday look

This design looks fantastic, and I'd imagine it's what we're going to see on screen, or something very similar. There's plenty of time for Marvel to change it a little. But considering they had shot most of what they needed for Avengers: Doomsday at the time, I think this is how Doom is going to look in the film.

The teaser also matches what the concept art shows. Since this is the design Marvel chose to put on display at the expo, it's probably what he's going to look like.

Doom's comic accurate design: green eyes, a metal mask and his hood

He looks like Doctor Doom. It's nice to know Marvel isn't veering far from what we know Doom to look like, and it looks like the design will be very comic accurate. It looks like his eyes are going to glow green, which the display seems to show.

The mask is clearly going to be metal, or iron if Marvel wants to connect it to Tony Stark and Iron Man, with his hood going over it. Classic Doctor Doom. The teaser also seems to show energy surging through his body. I'm thinking that hints at his sorcery, which a few other shots later in the teaser hint at as well.

The throne shot points to God Emperor Doom ruling Battleworld

At one point Doom is clearly sitting on a throne. This could be him in Latveria, but leaked concept art from Secret Wars has already shown Doom on a throne. So him sitting on one here is most likely him as the ruler of Battleworld.

In the comics, when the entire multiverse is destroyed, Doom uses the powers of the Beyonders, which he gets from Molecule Man, to create one world made of many different universes combined. That is Battleworld. Doom then rules over it as its god. He is God Emperor Doom, and that's what we're seeing in the leaked concept art and in this tease.

Doom appears to shatter reality, recalling the Watcher and Infinity Ultron

Next comes a part that seems to show more of Doom's powers, and I think we see him shattering reality. He shatters what's around him and glass fragments fly everywhere. But nothing is around him, so it does seem like he's shattering the reality he's in.

This reminds me of What If...? and the Watcher and Infinity Ultron, who both have the ability to go in and out of the fifth dimension. That dimension exists outside the multiverse, and from it they can go to any universe they want.

Is the Library of Worlds Doom's base in Avengers: Doomsday?

The next shot shows Doom looking at some kind of structure that seems to be made of those broken shards of glass. Again, I think that represents the fifth dimension and his ability to go to any universe he wants. Then it looks like the structure turns into a door.

I think what Marvel could be teasing here is the Library of Worlds. It was created by the Beyonders and sits outside the multiverse, but it can be used to access any universe. If I had to guess where Doom's base will be in Avengers: Doomsday, I'd guess here. In the comics, it becomes Doom's headquarters in the Time Runs Out story that leads right into Secret Wars.

If Doom is aware of Kang and the TVA, he probably knows that wherever he goes, they'll be able to spot him. The only place he could go is somewhere outside space, time and the multiverse, where the TVA couldn't find him. I think this makes perfect sense, and I think this is what they're teasing.

Kang's technology and the Ten Rings may belong to Doom

Further in, we see something that looks very similar to Kang's technology from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. One scene looks like it could show one of the Ten Rings, and it almost looks like Doom is designing or building it. I think this might be showing us that he's behind the Ten Rings and that technology.

Since Marvel can do whatever it wants with the writing in Avengers: Doomsday, it could even say Kang stole tech from Doom. In the comics, Kang and Doom meet at one point and believe they're related. When Kang, whose real name is Nathaniel Richards, takes on the persona of the Scarlet Centurion, he designs his armor after Doom's. So I could see the film going the route of Kang ripping off Doom and his technology.

Or it could go the other way, with Doom killing Kang and the rest of the Kangs and taking their tech. But I think it would be better if Doom is the originator of all of it. That makes him look more powerful than the previous villain who was only briefly on screen, and it would be the better way to build up Doom. When he creates the device and it starts spinning, it looks exactly like Kang's multiversal power core from Quantumania, rings spinning around it.

This might be another reason Doom hates Kang, which many different insiders have reported in the past. Doom could hate Kang because Kang stole his technology to try to rule the multiverse, and now Doom has to fix a multiverse on the brink of destruction. I hope they connect Doom's story to Kang's at least a little. Making this Doom's tech would tie in the Ten Rings from Shang-Chi, the bangles from Ms. Marvel and The Marvels, and Ant-Man, who warned people about Kang, only for them to realize Kang was like the apprentice and Doom is the master. I think that's awesome.

Doom's sorcery and why he may attack the X-Men

I think this also tells us Doom is definitely going to be a powerful sorcerer. That's what makes Doom so powerful: the perfect combination of sorcery and tech. I'll admit I was a little worried Marvel might leave out his sorcery, but based on this it looks like they're including it, which I'm excited about. It probably means Doom will be too powerful for any of the Avengers to handle.

The X-Men might give him a run for his money, which is probably why he attacks them. Set photos have shown destroyed Sentinels, which I've heard Doom uses to attack the X-Men, along with a lot of destruction on the set used for that X-Men scene. They're very powerful and could get in his way, so dropping into their universe and catching them off guard is probably the smartest move. I've also heard he wants to kill people who have caused incursions, and Monica Rambeau is in that X-Men universe, destabilizing it, so he's probably after her too.

The Avengers, Wakanda, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four line up against Doom

The teaser ends by showing the teams going up against Doctor Doom. Marvel Studios has already said who they are: the Avengers, the people of Wakanda, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, all teased in this show.

Overall, this was a great tease of Doom. The question is whether those teams will be strong enough to defeat him, or whether this ends like Avengers: Infinity War, with the villain winning. I think it ends with Doom winning.

I expect the final trailer within a week or two, probably landing on a Wednesday, and I'm optimistic the reported December 14 Los Angeles premiere is real based on the street permit timing. Marvel is clearly marketing Doomsday as a Doctor Doom movie like Thanos in Infinity War, and I bet it lives up to the hype.

Avengers: Doomsday reportedly never explains the Doom and Stark resemblance because that answer is being saved for Secret Wars. An insider who knows the plot says the film does not address it, calling that the right decision, suggesting Doom stays masked for most of Doomsday with only a final reveal.

I think Franklin Richards, not Wanda, is set to become Doom's primary reality warper in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, while Sue Storm may emerge as Doom's true nemesis or even turn into Malice, and Valeria's return feels likely too.
