Avengers: Secret Wars Filming Reportedly Pushed to November, and I Think the Delay Could Be a Good Thing

A new report says production on the next Avengers film is moving again. Here is why the plot details we have heard so far make a delay make sense, from Battleworld's erased memories to Wanda's rumoured team.

It looks like Avengers: Secret Wars could be delayed. According to Daniel RPK, citing his sources, filming has been pushed to November. That is unfortunate news on the surface, but honestly I think it is probably a good thing. Given everything we know about the plot, and everything making this film will demand, I think they should take their time.

If you think about it, this will probably be the biggest film of all time. Avengers: Doomsday is already being talked about as the biggest film of all time, bigger than Avengers: Endgame and bigger than Avatar. Secret Wars has to aim even higher, just as Endgame surpassed Infinity War.

Daniel RPK Says Avengers: Secret Wars Filming Has Moved to November

Filming on Secret Wars was supposed to have started already. It has been pushed back, and then pushed back again. The Russo brothers confirmed that they were starting to enter the very first stages of preproduction, and they were supposed to begin shooting soon. Now, according to Daniel RPK, it is moving to November.

I am glad Doomsday is not being delayed. It is only a few months away and it already looks incredible. But Secret Wars is supposed to go even further, and there are elements that make it completely logical for it to be delayed.

A May 2028 Release Would Let Robert Downey Jr. Mark the MCU's 20th Anniversary

Here is why I think a delay makes a lot of sense based on what Marvel might do. The MCU's 20th anniversary is in 2028. If we get a release date in May 2028 instead of December 2027, Marvel will celebrate it as the 20th anniversary of Marvel Studios, and honestly, what better way to do it?

Think about who is, in a way, the main character of Secret Wars: Robert Downey Jr. He launched the MCU in 2008. Doomsday and Secret Wars are the beginning of a new MCU, and he is the main character in both. So he essentially launches two different versions of the MCU and technically ends the first version he started, since we will get a new universe. He creates two universes and ends one. I find that quite poetic and pretty cool, although I imagine that depends on how you feel about his return.

Battleworld Will Wipe Memories and Make Doctor Doom a God

The plot details are wild, and we have heard new ones recently. People are going to lose their memories. Those on Battleworld will not remember the past or the original MCU. A few will, and I will get to them shortly, but most will not. It will be a totally new world, probably made, I would say, from several different universes. In the comics there are around 40, though who knows what the MCU will do. Doctor Doom will rule Battleworld from his throne, which we know because we have already seen concept art.

We have also heard, and this is a rumour, not confirmed, so spoilers for Doomsday, that everyone dies at the end of Doomsday and every universe is destroyed. Doom then brings people back and places them on Battleworld, not only heroes but civilians too. Everyone he resurrects will remember nothing of what came before. They will think they were born on Battleworld and that Doom literally created them. That is why he is God Emperor Doom in the comics: he created their world and he created them. I am sure it will be the same in the MCU, with people seeing him as a god while he rules over them.

Wanda's Rumoured Doomsday Post Credits Scene Could Start Her Redemption

Certain teams will not be part of Doom's creation of Battleworld, and they will remember everything. That starts with Wanda. It is a rumour we have heard, but new reports say Marvel Studios just shot a post credits scene for Avengers: Doomsday involving Wanda, and that it shows her on the right side. During reshoots, Elizabeth Olsen was apparently on set filming new material, and that scene was apparently meant for the post credits sequence.

Nothing is confirmed, obviously. We have heard she might be one of the witches following Doctor Doom, which makes sense in many ways. If she is seeking redemption and believes Doom is the way to get it, and since he sincerely sees himself as a hero, he could convince her to follow him. A lot of people dislike that because it extends her villain arc, but I think she will get her redemption in Secret Wars.

The scene would seemingly show Wanda with a team, which I think is really great. Imagine seeing her with Tom Holland's Spider-Man. Maybe she is recruiting people, maybe that is what she was doing at the end of Doomsday; we will have to wait and see. And if anyone can wake up people's memories, it is Wanda and Doctor Strange, perhaps even Wong. Because of the spell cast in Spider-Man: No Way Home, they could do a kind of reverse spell so people remember everything, which would be amazing.

Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine Are Reportedly Hunting for Loki

Avengers: Doomsday is set to open on Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. That seems almost confirmed at this point, as every credible insider has said it is happening, and recent reports say the first 10 minutes will be absolutely incredible, one of the best things Marvel has ever made. Fingers crossed. If it is Tobey's Spider-Man fighting Wolverine and the rest of the X-Men, it will be one of the best things we have ever seen.

They will make it look as though Spidey and Wolverine die, but they do not. They come back in Secret Wars, and according to some reports they have a very specific mission: find Loki. Loki's fate in Doomsday is not certain yet. Some reports say he dies, others say he does not, or that he fakes his death, which would be very Loki. But reportedly he also remembers nothing once on Battleworld.

So Spidey and Wolverine go looking for Loki because he saved them, and he was in charge of the TVA, the god of stories now. That makes sense. Apparently when they find him he remembers nothing, so they have to wake him up somehow, and I think that is where Wanda comes in.

Ant-Man's Quantum Realm Escape Plan Could Save the Young Avengers

There are other teams too, and they will probably survive the destruction of the multiverse without Doom wiping their memories, by going into the void, the quantum realm, or a rescue ship, which seems to amount to the same thing. We have heard that Ant-Man may have modified the Fantastic Four's ship so it could enter the quantum realm as a safety measure. He essentially tells the Young Avengers, including his daughter Cassie, that if things go wrong they should leave, because the whole multiverse, space and time, will be destroyed, so they need to get out of space and time into the quantum realm.

I think that is very logical, especially for Scott as a father heading into a giant battle, probably knowing he will not win. It makes sense to keep his daughter away and to have a backup plan in case he fails, because it looks like he will.

So according to reports and rumours, not confirmed, Mr. Fantastic survives and pilots the ship, Cassie helps them into the quantum realm, and the Young Avengers survive along with other characters. Maybe others like Tom Holland's Spider-Man could be aboard. We do not know how Doomsday ends, so we do not know exactly who is involved, but it is an important rumour. When they return, the only thing left will be Battleworld, where they join any other teams there: Wanda's team, Tobey's Spidey, Hugh's Wolverine, perhaps Loki if they gather him, and possibly, we have heard, an Iron Man variant played by Robert Downey Jr. I think these teams start living somewhat underground.

Leaked Secret Wars Concept Art Hints at an Underground Resistance and a Time Jump

The leaked concept art was for Secret Wars, not Doomsday. It shows the Young Avengers, Wong and Star-Lord in a bar, in what looks like an underground scene. Maybe some people have been woken up and are waiting to wake others, because that will take time. They will need to go out and find specific heroes to build a team big enough to take on Doctor Doom. The art also includes Star-Lord and Vision, which is just great, and Wong, who might also help with memories.

We have heard there will be a time jump in Secret Wars, like the five year jump in Endgame. That seems likely because a new, much older actor reportedly plays Franklin Richards, and an older Franklin hints at a leap forward. That could be because it will take time to assemble a team and wake people up, which is what I am calling it now.

A Hulk Domain Suggests Barons Ruling Battleworld

The leaked art also shows a Hulk section, a territory. In the comics there are barons who run these sectors, mostly villains, and Maestro Hulk is one of them. We know Doom took Hulk at a certain point. What did he do with sorcery to transform him, and does he become something like Maestro Hulk with an MCU twist? We will have to wait and see. The art shows Hulk with a group of other Hulks, probably Greenland from the comics. I am almost sure plenty of villains will appear as barons.

A Battle Bigger Than Doomsday Is Why Secret Wars Needs More Time

Then we get a massive battle, and it has to be bigger than Doomsday's, which will include the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and the Avengers. We have heard there will be some cameos, and the Russo brothers confirmed they have not announced the whole cast, so more characters will appear than we think. Secret Wars has to top Doomsday's final battle, and also the Avengers, the X-Men and part of the Fantastic Four against Doom and the Sentinels, which we have had a glimpse of and which looks incredible.

Cameos plus a massive battle will take time to shoot, and just gathering everyone is a logistical challenge. There could be more than a hundred characters, not leads but not extras either. The focus will obviously be Doom, then Steve Rogers, Loki and Thor, and there are a lot of Spider-Men. I would be really shocked if Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man did not appear. Everyone has to be brought together and schedules aligned, then it has to be filmed properly, then edited and finished in post production.

So it makes sense that it is being pushed back, and I would rather they play it safe than rush. The bar is very high for Doomsday right now; I think people are more excited for it than they have been in a long time. Spider-Man: Brand New Day had buzz, and I loved it, but we have not had an Avengers film since Endgame, which hopefully becomes the biggest film of all time again after its theatrical re-release. I would rather they delay Secret Wars by six months and take their time, and it would be cool for it to land on the MCU's 20th anniversary with Robert Downey Jr. there, depending on how you feel about his return.

Would you rather Marvel delay Secret Wars so it can be epic, or do you just want it now so we can move on to the X-Men and the new universe?
