West Coast Avengers Rumored for Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, Led by Hawkeye

Jeremy Renner's teases and an insider report point to a Clint Barton led team, with Wonder Man, She-Hulk, Vision and more rumored for the lineup

It looks like another new Avengers team is going to appear in the Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars event, and it's the West Coast Avengers. Jeremy Renner, who plays Hawkeye, recently posted a tease of the West Coast Avengers to his story, and the insider account No More Mutants is reporting that the team will assemble in Secret Wars with Clint Barton leading it.

I'm saying the event overall, part one and part two, because I think some of the heroes on this team will be in Doomsday and some aren't going to show up until Secret Wars. I do believe this ties into the Young Avengers story I covered yesterday in a very big way, and later in this piece I'll get into the mission this team is reportedly being given.

Jeremy Renner keeps teasing a Hawkeye return

Jeremy Renner has done more than a few stories and posts teasing his return, and the most recent one, posted the other day, teased the West Coast Avengers. This has actually been teased by insiders before, specifically No More Mutants, who is stating that the West Coast Avengers will assemble in Avengers: Secret Wars as a team led by Clint Barton.

Back in August, Renner also posted a picture of his Hawkeye suit to his Instagram story, and people took that as a sign he's possibly returning in Doomsday. To be honest, I don't think it's Doomsday. I think it's more Secret Wars. We already know at this point that Kate Bishop is confirmed to be returning, and it looks like she and Clint are probably going to end up reuniting, maybe in Doomsday but more likely in Secret Wars.

I think this could be a really important quest in Doomsday that ties everything together, and it could even go on to be a main storyline after Secret Wars: a completely separate Avengers team from Sam Wilson's, one on the other side of the US that can handle different territories. If the report is accurate, and this has been reported about for a long time now, we're going to see a new team that's going to be pretty cool.

The West Coast Avengers could explain Marvel's Wonder Man decision

I think this actually explains some of Marvel's recent decisions, and I'm talking about things like Wonder Man. Season 1 was pretty much a success. It was kind of a delight, to be honest. It was very different, but it actually worked, and I think a lot of people really liked it. We were supposed to get season 2, but then Marvel cancelled it.

Some people have been asking what's going on, since Marvel also cancelled Blade along with some other projects. Well, now we're hearing that Wonder Man and Hawkeye will both appear in the West Coast Avengers, and it's looking like Vision might be part of that team as well. It looks like it might actually be fairly comic accurate.

The rumored lineup starts with Clint Barton, She-Hulk and Vision

This lineup comes from recent leaks and rumors. It's definitely not confirmed, but this is what it's rumored to be. First is Clint Barton leading the team. A lot of people have been asking how Hawkeye isn't part of this, since he's been in the MCU since Thor, I believe, and he's one of the original Avengers from the first Avengers movie. I still don't know if he's in Doomsday, but I do believe he's going to lead this team in Secret Wars. It makes sense.

Next is She-Hulk. I saw comments from people questioning this, and not a lot of people liked the She-Hulk series, but some did, and to each their own. We have seen leaked concept art of She-Hulk in Secret Wars, so it seems like Marvel Studios does have a plan for her. Maybe these reports are going off those old leaked images and old reports, because I know the actress got into a little thing with Disney, so who knows at this point. As of right now, she's rumored to be on the team.

Then there's the new Vision. I say White Vision, because that's what Marvel Studios has labeled him right now, but it looks like by the end of VisionQuest he's going to get another comic accurate suit and no longer be White Vision. It makes sense that he would come back, especially when I connect him to another team below.

Battleworld could be how Wonder Man joins the team

Wonder Man is on the rumored lineup too. Keep in mind this is probably on Battleworld, so even if there's no existing connection between Wonder Man, Hawkeye and anybody else, it seems like maybe parts of California and New York are going to be part of Battleworld.

A lot of different heroes from different sections of America, and probably the world as we get into Secret Wars, are maybe going to be grouped together, and they'll meet that way. That's how Wonder Man gets connected with everybody, via Battleworld. I'm sure at some point people are going to be looking for superpowered individuals, and he's one of them.

War Machine, Wong, Star-Lord and Captain Marvel round out the rumors

War Machine is also rumored. There's been so much that hasn't happened with Armor Wars. It was supposed to be a series, then it was going to be a movie, and then nothing happened. Even Don Cheadle has said he hasn't heard anything. But it would make sense to bring him back.

It would make sense to bring Wong too. He's been popping up in a lot of places in the Multiverse Saga, and we already know he's going to be in the films. Star-Lord is on Earth right now, so when things start to happen in Doomsday, it makes sense he would want to get in. I don't know about the rest of the Guardians, but Star-Lord was also seen in the leaked concept art for Secret Wars, at the bar with Wong and the Young Avengers team.

Then Captain Marvel. We haven't heard a ton about her, but with the ending of The Marvels and its post credits scene, it just doesn't make sense for her not to return. Some people are saying maybe Wasp, but the actress who plays her said she was done acting, and she did suffer a brain injury, which is pretty serious. It's unclear. It doesn't seem like she's returning, but she could also be on the team.

The team is reportedly a resistance helping the Young Avengers save Wanda

According to the report, Clint Barton's team is on the West Coast of New York, not the West Coast over in California, acting as a resistance. Many heroes who remember their past are setting out to overthrow Doom and will help the Young Avengers save Wanda. The report calls this the most important team in Secret Wars, and I believe it because it is the resistance. I think the most important team is really just the people who remember the past, for whatever reason.

That's where questions start to arise. How does Clint remember the past? Is he on a life raft? Was he in the Quantum Realm? Did he get to the Void? Is it Loki doing something, or did Wong or Doctor Strange do something? Has Doctor Strange been communicating with Wong? I would not be surprised, because I'm sure at some point Doctor Strange goes along with Doom but then realizes this isn't good.

So maybe at some point Strange awakens Wong and Wong starts to do that for others. But they would need to do it on a massive global scale, so they need Wanda.

I think Wanda is the key to everything in Secret Wars

The Young Avengers Children's Crusade storyline is basically about going to rescue Wanda from Doctor Doom. In the comics, they're going to get married. Wanda doesn't have her memories when she's going to marry Doom, but then she's awakened, gets her memories back and still wants to marry him. He chooses power over her. "Could have had the Scarlet Witch," and he's not so intelligent after all. Ultimately she gets reunited with her children, Billy and Tommy.

That's what we're building to with VisionQuest and Secret Wars. Vision is going to reunite in VisionQuest with Billy and Tommy, and they're going to realize Wanda brought them to life and that they're all kind of back now. In Secret Wars, they're going to realize Wanda is the key to everything. With Vision on the West Coast Avengers and Billy and Tommy on the Young Avengers, these teams are going to come together and collectively decide they have to go get Wanda.

That's what I've been saying for a very long time, because I think it makes the most sense. She should be the most powerful character with the exception of Doctor Doom. We don't know how strong Doom is, and he should be stronger than everybody, but then again, she's the Scarlet Witch, so who knows?

Other teams may be hunting for Loki

Those are the two teams focused on Wanda. We've also heard that Tobey, Andrew and Tom's three Spider-Men, Deadpool, Wolverine, Reed Richards and some others are going to be focused on finding Loki, and that they possibly run into an Iron Man variant if that report is accurate. That's not confirmed.

It does seem like this is going to be kind of a major theme and the main plot of Secret Wars, at least in the beginning: different teams who remember the past trying to come together and awaken other people so they can eventually fight Doctor Doom, restore what they can, or at least live freely on Battleworld without Doom ruling over it. I think some characters like Star-Lord might appear in Doomsday, because we've heard some reports about that, but I don't expect a lot of them to. This might be more for Secret Wars, though some could still appear in Doomsday. Personally, it excites me.

Which member of the rumored West Coast Avengers lineup would you most like to see on screen?
