How Scarlet Witch and Vision's Love Story Played Out in Marvel Comics

From Avengers teammates to a married couple with twins, Wanda and Vision's comic book romance took some unexpected turns.

There's a love story you may not know about if you haven't read the comics, and that's the love between the Scarlet Witch and Vision. If you've only seen the movies, you probably noticed them getting closer in Captain America: Civil War, and if you were really paying attention, you could have noticed a little something between them in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

So how does this love story play out in the comics? The movies don't differ too much from the source material.

Scarlet Witch and Vision met on the Avengers, but Quicksilver and Hawkeye objected

In the comics, the Scarlet Witch and Vision both meet when they join the Avengers. They eventually fall in love with each other, but some of the members object to the relationship.

The Scarlet Witch's brother, Quicksilver, objects because he can't handle the fact that his sister is in love with a robot. Clint, aka Hawkeye, also objects because in the comics, he doesn't have the loving family the MCU shows you. In fact, he objects because he's in love with the Scarlet Witch himself.

He even makes a move on her at one point and kisses her. She replies, "I'm in love with Vision." Eventually, everyone becomes okay with the relationship, and over time, the Scarlet Witch and Vision get married.

Wanda and Vision's love comes from loving each other unconditionally

Their love in the comics, and from what I can tell in the movies, stems from their ability to love each other unconditionally. Vision just wants to know what it's like to be human, to love and to feel, and Wanda loves him unconditionally despite him being an Android.

Wanda, in turn, just wants to be viewed as a normal person, not the powerful witch that she is. Vision just sees a beautiful woman who loves him, and he loves her unconditionally in return.

Wanda's magic made it possible for her and Vision to have twins

Eventually, the two of them leave the Avengers to start their new life together. They get to enjoy married life as a couple without having to worry about taking on supervillains and saving the world.

They then achieve the impossible when Wanda gets pregnant. That's stunning to both of them, seeing as Wanda is a human and Vision is an Android. The comics explain that it was her magic that made it happen. Both she and Vision wanted children so badly that her hex powers made it possible for them to have a child, or two. That's right, they have twins.

The twins were shards of Mephisto, and Wanda lost control of her powers

A lot of crazy things happen from here, and I don't want to get too far into them because I wanted to keep this relevant to the movies. For starters, her twins are actually shards of the demon Mephisto, and they eventually get absorbed back into him, which causes her to lose her kids.

Ultimately, she goes crazy and loses her mind and control of her powers, which results in her killing Vision and Hawkeye. The Avengers and the X-Men get together and talk about killing her because she is so powerful and out of control.

Quicksilver finds this out and convinces her to change reality to one where she, Quicksilver and Magneto rule the world. I know, it's crazy. If you want to know more, you should definitely read the comic series that tells this story.

I expected Infinity War to focus on how Wanda and Vision fell in love

Before Avengers: Infinity War arrived, I thought it was mostly going to focus on how they fall in love and end up together. We could tell from the trailers that the film was clearly going to focus on the romance between Vision and the Scarlet Witch, with Wanda by Vision's side in almost every scene that had been shown, fighting and protecting him.

They're a pretty interesting and powerful couple, if you think about it: a witch who has immense power and an Android who has the power of an Infinity Stone. Going in, I thought it would be interesting to see these two use their powers as they fought for each other. Thanos and the Children of Thanos were coming for the Mind Stone inside Vision's head, so the Scarlet Witch and Vision were going to have to be on their A game.

Which part of Wanda and Vision's comic book history would you most like to see adapted?
