Ramayana's full 3 hour 15 minute Hindi cut is the version to see
The original language version with English subtitles includes scenes reportedly cut from a shorter English version that uses AI to alter the actors' lip movements
I saw Ramayana at Sony headquarters in New York City the way it was intended: in the original Hindi language with English subtitles, for the full 3 hour 15 minute running time. It was fantastic, and I think the longer original version is definitely worth seeing.
If you're going to do this, do it. I'm so glad I waited to see the film in its original format, and I'd recommend you do the same.
A shorter English version of Ramayana uses AI on the actors' lip movements
Somebody else in attendance had seen a shorter, westernized version that's in English. That cut uses AI to change the lip movements of the actors so it looks like they're speaking English. I have some problems with that.
Ravana's scene with multiple versions of himself was apparently cut
We talked about the differences at the screening, and apparently the shorter version cuts a scene where Ravana is talking to multiple versions of himself. In the full version, that's one of the coolest sequences in the movie.
The shorter cut also apparently loses a touching scene where one of Prince Rama's brothers comes to visit him in exile. That's all I'll say, because I don't want to spoil anything.
I had such a great time with Ramayana. It's a very good movie and a very, very good time, and I liked it a lot. Seeing it in its original form is the way to go.
