This Fake Spider-Man Reaction Dub Had Me Losing It Laughing at My Own Brother
I reacted to GM Films' hilarious redubbed version of Real Rejects supposedly running out of things to react to after No Way Home, and it might be one of the funniest parody videos I have seen.
I watched a dub video from GM Films that takes real reaction footage of the Real Rejects, my brother Greg included, and redubs it to make it sound like they have run out of movies to react to after Spider-Man: No Way Home and are now desperately reacting to the weather report, a soap opera, and their own Lego and action figures instead. My verdict is that this thing is genuinely, objectively funny, not just because I know everyone in it personally.
This matters to fans because it pokes fun at a real anxiety a lot of reaction channels have right now. As I put it, "there has been so much investment of time and energy into spider-man it's like okay so now what do you do," and I brought up New Rockstars as an example of a channel that already tries to branch into Rick and Morty or The Matrix so they are not just doing Marvel content forever.
The Weather Report Bit Is the Most Unexpected Joke in the Whole Dub
The moment that got me laughing hardest early on was the guys apparently making predictions about the weather and then cheering over it. I said this was "the last thing I was expecting," and I loved how the dub leans into the idea that they are "literally reacting to the weather to the weather," like there is nothing left on YouTube to react to now that No Way Home is out.
The Soap Opera Line "She's Going to Jail" Is My Favorite Moment
My favorite bit in the whole video is the part where the reaction footage gets paired with a soap opera line about someone being questioned over a murder, and the dub has them react with total shock as if their own show just revealed a huge twist. I pointed out how well the mouth movements actually matched up with the new dialogue, which made the joke land even harder.
John's Deep Voice and the Star Wars Bit Add Extra Layers
I also called out how one editor apparently voiced multiple people with distinct, layered voices, including an absurdly deep voice for John, to the point where it genuinely felt like three separate guys were talking. There is also a bit where they react to Star Wars as if they are just now discovering Darth Vader is Luke's father, which works because John already has an Empire Strikes Back poster visible in the background of the real footage.
My overall take is that the strength of this parody is irony, taking completely mundane, unrelated footage like weather forecasts and Lego play and pairing it with genuinely expressive reactions that were originally about Spider-Man. As I said, "it's just so ironic that the very idea of it is hilarious to me."
Do you think more reaction channels should start branching out to other genres the way New Rockstars does, or is there always going to be demand for pure Marvel reaction content?
