Could Godzilla and Kong Take On Everyone in Pacific Rim? The Weight Gap Makes It No Contest

Pacific Rim's Kaiju and Jaegers bring missiles, chainsaws and nukes, but the Monsterverse's two alpha Titans outweigh nearly all of them many times over.

Could Godzilla and Kong take on all of Pacific Rim by themselves? My answer is yes: Godzilla and Kong are going to wreck shop all through Pacific Rim, and "it's not even really close."

Godzilla and Kong are the alpha Titans in the Monsterverse, and when they stop fighting each other and team up, literally no one there can stand up to them. So I wanted to see how that tag team would fare in another monster universe entirely.

Godzilla's base form already outmuscles the Titans he has fought

Over the years, Godzilla has cemented his place as king of the monsters, the ultimate alpha predator and the strongest in the world of Titans. Even before he evolved into his pink form, in just his base form, there's pretty much no other alpha Titan that can stand up to him. And trust me, plenty have tried. He fought and killed the two MUTOs, he fought and beat Kong, and he fought King Ghidorah.

These are serious monsters, too. The MUTOs weigh 76,000 tons and 46,000 tons, and King Ghidorah weighs 140,000 tons. So when Godzilla is throwing these guys around with ease and decking them with attacks, you have to factor that in. Godzilla is insanely strong, and again, that's just his base form.

Godzilla has survived nuclear bombs, the oxygen destroyer and an extinction event

Godzilla is also crazy tough. Everyone seems to be gunning for his crown, and they've all gotten their hits in. Godzilla was able to pretty consistently trade blows with King Ghidorah and take everything it had, and Ghidorah had no true shot at taking him down until it amped itself up with all the electricity in Boston. As for Kong, for as powerful as he is as another true alpha Titan, Godzilla was basically toying with him the entire time.

That's not all. Godzilla regularly survives nuclear bombs. He survived Castle Bravo, a 15 megaton nuke that at the time was the largest ever detonated, and he took it like a champ. Then he took another massive nuclear bomb. He survived the oxygen destroyer, even taking it directly on the head. And last but not least, there's a straight up extinction level impact that broke apart the Earth's crust, created an explosion even larger than Africa and killed 90% of all life on the planet. Godzilla just took it and kept on swimming.

He's nearly impossible to hurt, much less put down for good. There have been a few times he's been knocked out and a few low showings along the way, but this is someone who takes gigantic nuclear bombs directly to the face.

Atomic breath and Pink Godzilla's 120% upgrade

Then there's his signature attack, his atomic breath. Godzilla has killed a whole lot of Titans with it and injured a whole lot more. But probably the most impressive thing was when he used his atomic breath to burrow all the way down through the Earth itself to reach the Hollow Earth. That's easily the craziest thing the big lizard has ever done, and he's releasing an absolutely insane amount of power and energy to do it.

I say all this because while that's Godzilla at his core, Pink Godzilla is an upgraded and evolved version of all of it. We actually know Pink Godzilla is 120% of what normal Godzilla is. He showed that off, too, fighting some of the most powerful Titans on Earth and honestly looking like it wasn't hard for him. These are Titans he really struggled with in the past. Skar King and his army nearly beat base form Godzilla, but it felt like there was never much of a chance of them beating Pink Godzilla. Godzilla decided to upgrade for his second fight against Kong, and he seriously upgraded.

Kong went toe to toe with Godzilla for 12 hours in Hong Kong

Kong is the ruler of Skull Island, which is where the King in King Kong comes from, and he's been ruling as an alpha Titan for literally millions of years. He beat the giant skull crawler and faced off against Samuel L. Jackson, and beating Nick Fury and Mace Windu is cool, but it's really his fights with Godzilla I want to focus on. Godzilla here is almost 400 feet tall and 100,000 tons, one of the biggest versions we've ever seen.

Their first fight was in Godzilla's element, the water, so Kong had to use destroyers and aircraft carriers as footholds to fight back. Godzilla dragged him under the water and tried to drown him, but Kong strangled him right back, using his strength to almost outmuscle Godzilla and escape. That's a pretty good showing to start off with.

Then came the Hong Kong fight, which starts at sunset and doesn't let up until dawn, so they're fighting for something like 12 hours. Even if Godzilla technically won, Kong got his hits in, and you can't tell me Godzilla wasn't feeling each and every one of those punches. They were destroying pretty much all of Hong Kong while they were at it. We don't really talk about it much, but Godzilla and Kong probably killed at least tens of thousands of people in that fight.

Kong also took plenty of attacks over those 12 hours. Eventually he was beaten and had to be revived. He essentially died, so his durability has its limits. But if it takes a 12 hour fight with the literal king of the monsters to beat you, I'm not going to hold that against you. You're pretty tough.

A half strength Kong still helped take down Mechagodzilla

That also means Kong was operating at half strength when he had to fight Mechagodzilla, which was unlike anything they'd ever seen. If Godzilla is a force of nature and Kong is like a wise master, Mechagodzilla is just a jerk who's going to fight dirty. Even at 50%, Kong helped kick its butt. He got in there with his axe and started chopping, and once Godzilla supercharged the axe, it was all over. Kong went to town and took Mechagodzilla out.

That axe says a lot about how Kong fights. It shows he fights with some level of skill, out of the box thinking and on the fly ingenuity. He did it back on Skull Island, he did it in Hong Kong and he did it all throughout the Hollow Earth. For being basically a giant animal, Kong doesn't fight like one. Godzilla fights like an animal, clawing and scratching. "Kong fights like a warrior."

Pacific Rim's biggest threats include Leatherback, Slattern and Gipsy Danger

Pacific Rim brings two groups to this fight, the Jaegers and the Kaiju, and both have their advantages and their powerful members. Leatherback is a giant Kaiju gorilla that took down and tore apart two Jaegers, Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon. Obsidian Fury is a Kaiju and Jaeger hybrid with shoulder mounted missile launchers and twin plasma chainsaws. Slattern is one of the most powerful Kaiju anyone has ever fought, to the point where Guillermo del Toro likened it to the devil. It survived the nuclear bomb from Striker Eureka and took another nuclear blast from Gipsy Danger before it went down.

Gipsy Danger is a Mark III and one of the most powerful Jaegers ever created. It was the first to fight a class 5 and it destroyed the Kaiju creation facility, but it's the pilots that make it so powerful. Raleigh and Mako are easily the greatest Jaeger pilot team we've seen in the series, and their skill and cooperation, along with Gipsy Danger's high powered weapons, make it formidable.

Striker Eureka is a Mark V built to be the first and last line of defense for Australia's coastline, the strongest and fastest Jaeger built up to that point. It was designed to function like a brutal fighter and could kill Kaiju quicker and more effectively than any Jaeger so far. Its brass knuckles make every punch significantly more powerful, and its chest mounted anti Kaiju missile launcher can kill a Kaiju with one direct hit.

Gipsy Avenger is a Mark 6 designed after its namesake, with an arsenal built as an upgraded version of Gipsy Danger's. Its one original weapon is the gravity sling, which is very effective against Kaiju because it literally throws buildings down on top of them. It battled Obsidian Fury and was responsible for taking down the Mega Kaiju, an amalgamation of three of the most powerful Kaiju ever rolled into one. All of these and plenty more would be taking on Godzilla and Kong at once.

The weight gap between the two universes is massive

One of the first things to note is the massive weight discrepancy between these universes. Godzilla and Kong come in at 100,000 and 158,000 tons respectively. The biggest Jaeger, Cherno Alpha, is 2,000 tons. Slattern is just 6,000 tons, and the Mega Kaiju is the biggest at just 15,000. Godzilla and Kong outweigh them by something like a factor of 10. They might be the same size, but Godzilla and Kong are going to plow through the vast majority of them. Remember Conor McGregor trying to fight the Mountain? It's basically the same thing.

And that's just the weight. It completely ignores that this is literally Godzilla and Kong, who tear through every other monster in their path. You have to be a true threat even to try to stand equal to them. Look at Godzilla versus Scylla, Godzilla versus Tiamat or Kong versus the warbats. That's what they do to normal Kaiju, and those monsters weighed roughly as much as Godzilla and Kong already. Add in that nobody in Pacific Rim weighs nearly as much, and it's clear Godzilla and Kong can wreck shop.

Why I don't think Pacific Rim could swarm them

The real question is whether Pacific Rim could swarm and overwhelm them with sheer numbers. That's the only strategy that could really work. But considering Godzilla and Kong can quite literally one shot a lot of these monsters and robots, I don't think they're at much risk of getting swarmed.

To stand up against Godzilla for a long time, "you basically have to be as powerful as the sun." He's cooking pretty much everything around him. And since Kong is one of the only Titans that can stand up to Godzilla for that long, having fought him for 12 hours, you can say the same about him. They're going to one shot most of the enemies here, and the ones they can't will face the nastiest tag team you've ever seen.

Which Pacific Rim fighter do you think would last longest against Godzilla and Kong?
