Two insider updates point to the week of Thanksgiving, and I explain why that timing would make sense and what I want the trailer to show of Doctor Doom

Avengers: Doomsday final trailer date: November 25, per insiders

The final trailer for Avengers: Doomsday should be arriving soon, and two industry insider updates may pin down when. One points to November in general. The other points to the week of Thanksgiving, more specifically Wednesday, November 25. Intel or not, that date makes a lot of sense to me. What I want most from the trailer is a lot more dialogue from Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom.

Marvel Studios has already released a new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, released in three different edits with a bunch of new scenes. But it ran only 30 seconds. With six weeks to go before the film, I expect the final trailer to be labeled as such by Marvel, and I'd bet it runs somewhere between a minute and a half and two minutes. Insiders have also hinted at what it might contain.

Insiders point to November for the final Avengers: Doomsday trailer

The first update comes from industry insider Daniel Richtman, a pillar in the Marvel news community. In his latest update, he indicated that the final trailer for Avengers: Doomsday will come sometime next month, meaning November. I'll admit that's vague. Whether he has intel or not, it's a good guess. There are only six weeks left, so unless Marvel drops the trailer in the next day or two or on Halloween, it has to land in November.

The second update is more specific. It comes from the same Twitter scoopster who said we were getting something for Avengers: Doomsday on a recent Friday, and that turned out to be true. This source says the final trailer is coming the week of Thanksgiving, more specifically on the 25th. For now, until there's a better update, the 25th of November, or sometime that week, is when I expect the final trailer to arrive.

Why the day before Thanksgiving makes sense for a trailer drop

From a marketing standpoint, the day before Thanksgiving makes a lot of sense. Most people are already where they're going to be for the holiday, and almost nobody is working. All eyes would be on the trailer. Then you'd have conversation over the next 24 to 48 hours as families get together and ask each other whether they're going to see Avengers: Doomsday.

Historically, Marvel Studios drops trailers on Sundays and Tuesdays, far ahead of every other day of the week. But knowing how the media cycle and sales cycle work during the fourth quarter, the 25th is a good guess either way.

A last push for Avengers: Doomsday tickets against Dune

If Marvel is saving the trailer that long, I think they're going to use it as a last second ticket push. They'll want it to inspire anyone who hasn't already bought tickets to grab them, with the film only a couple of weeks away at that point. There are also plenty of people who already plan to see it but don't buy tickets that far in advance. They may be sad to find out that many theaters are already sold out by the time they go to purchase.

I'm sure some of you have seen the reports that, in a one to one comparison of Avengers: Doomsday and Dune, Doomsday is clearly outpacing Dune in tickets already sold. But it's the holiday season, and some people are going to go see movies those nights regardless. If Doomsday is sold out, they'll simply buy tickets to Dune instead. Going to the theater is part of what people do over the holidays. That's why Marvel will want this trailer to inspire people to pick Avengers: Doomsday.

The final trailer is aimed at casual Marvel fans

If you haven't bought tickets yet, you might fall into the soft Marvel fan category. You're not a diehard. Maybe you saw Deadpool and Wolverine, the Spider-Man movie, or both, but didn't see every film in the Multiverse Saga. You know the Avengers title and you recognize Captain America and Iron Man. You probably don't even know that Kang the Conqueror was switched to Doctor Doom, or the hoopla involved with it. You just want to go see the new Marvel movie.

Plenty of fans fall into that category, and this final trailer is meant to get them to buy tickets and choose Doomsday over Dune. That means it has to accomplish something that maybe the previous promotion hasn't. That's why, over the last month or so, industry insiders have indicated that Marvel Studios is looking to do something different with the final trailer to wow people, and maybe show some new characters.

Reports say no third act scenes from Avengers: Doomsday have been shown

As Daniel Richtman has put it, even the early trailers for Avengers: Endgame showed some scenes from the third act. Apparently, it's being reported that none of the Avengers: Doomsday material shown so far comes from the third act or the final battle. That's when, reportedly, all the heroes finally team up and march on Doom's castle.

Frankly, I don't need Marvel Studios to give us any of the third act, or much more of the film at all. They don't have to. They've already managed to keep us guessing and asking a lot of questions.

Why I want more Doctor Doom dialogue in the final trailer

What I'd truly like to see is a lot more dialogue from Doctor Doom, delivered as a voiceover, to get a better sense of his character. The Russos have already said that empathetic villains are the ones they find serve stories best and make them intriguing and engaging. We know Doom's plan is to end the multiverse as we know it and create a Battleworld where he is the ultimate god, emperor and supreme leader. But if you take the Russos at their word, Doom truly thinks he's the hero of the story.

In that reading, Doom is trying to stave off the impending destruction of the entire multiverse. Many of us, including the heroes in Avengers: Doomsday, simply won't agree with the way he chooses to do it. I see no reason to believe the Russos are lying. They already showed what their archetypal villain looks like in Thanos, and I think Doom will truly believe he is the savior of this story.

There's so much layering to Doctor Doom, especially given what the film has to accomplish. I have to imagine Downey filmed quite a bit of monologue: talking about what has already happened, explaining his plan, revealing things to other characters. "There's got to be some awesome sound bites buried in there." I think that would go a long way toward making a satisfying final trailer without spilling the beans on the third act or giving away too much of the film at the 11th hour.

Marvel has already done a great job keeping much of this film a mystery. We have very little idea what's going on with the witches or what happens in the third act, and there's still no official reveal of Doom's ultimate plan. We've heard plot leaks about Doom suggesting the heroes build huge cannons to repel the Earths from each other, but Marvel hasn't revealed any of that. They've barely shown Doom interacting with other characters, beyond Reed Richards grabbing his chest and Doom fighting Thor.

There's so much more they could give us, and so much more to establish with Doom. In an attempt to wow people into buying tickets, I'm hoping this final trailer pushes things a bit further with what it shows of him. Just give us more Doom dialogue in the final trailer.
