Alleged Avengers: Endgame Encore Leak Details New Doomsday-Bridging Scenes, But Doctor Doom Is Missing

A scooper's description of added footage for Avengers: Endgame Encore claims the Avengers never actually time traveled, but I have real doubts about that detail.

Avengers: Endgame Encore is still about two weeks from hitting theaters. The real question is whether the trailer that dropped on 25 August includes any of the new Doomsday footage that is supposedly the entire reason to buy a ticket, since Endgame itself is already streaming for free on Disney Plus. Today there is a full leaked description of the added footage said to bridge Endgame to Avengers: Doomsday, and it comes with a normal spoiler warning attached: no scooper gets everything right, and if you are susceptible to having your Doomsday experience spoiled, now is the time to look away.

This particular leak comes from the scooper known as No More Mutants. I want to be upfront that we have not re-reported on No More Mutants before, but we give credit where it's due: some of these anonymous Twitter scoopers, including The Beyond Reporter, have absolutely nailed it lately. Still, take this one with the usual grain of salt until we see the actual footage in a few weeks.

The leaked Avengers: Endgame Encore scenes reportedly include a funeral conversation and a Loki multiverse reveal

According to the leak description, scenes were added of Steve talking with Pepper and Scott at Tony's funeral, followed by a conversation between Thor and Steve. Loki then reportedly appears at Peggy and Steve's house and explains that what the Avengers did in Endgame actually altered other universes. The claim is that the Avengers believed they traveled to the past, but they actually traveled to other universes instead.

As an example given in the leak, there is supposedly a universe where Infinity War never happens because Thanos died, Gamora disappeared from that universe, and Nebula is dead. Steve is said to have moved to a timeline very similar to Earth-616, the one where we saw the ending of Endgame play out, where he and Peggy have a son named James Rogers, whom we already saw in the trailer. The final scene in this extra footage reportedly shows Steve, Peggy, and James together in a new futuristic universe, in a cabin far from the city.

I am 50/50 on this leak, and the multiverse retcon claim is the part I doubt most

Normally when I cover a leak like this I either try to debunk it outright as a rehash of existing rumors, or I point to details that line up with what we already know. This one is genuinely split down the middle for me. The claim that the Avengers actually traveled to a different part of the multiverse instead of simply going back in time is the part I am not sure I can buy on any level. That would be a major retroactive change to the plot, and I do not think Kevin Feige and the Russos are going to make that kind of move.

I keep bringing up the de-specialized versions of Star Wars as a cautionary example, and Marvel Studios has set the opposite precedent so far. There is no such thing as a director's cut in this universe: canon is canon, what you saw in theaters and what is up on Disney Plus. They will add scenes for Blu-rays and steelbooks, but the theatrical cut is the canonical one. That kind of reveal, with Loki casually announcing the Avengers never actually went back in time, would be a cheap, retroactive way of making a new story easier to tell, and I am still giving Marvel enough credit to believe they will not do that. I will believe it when I see it.

One detail from the leak has reportedly already been corroborated: Pepper Potts returning for a funeral scene

On the other hand, one specific detail from this leak lines up with something reported separately in just the last day. Daniel RPK seemingly confirmed that Pepper Potts is back and that she appears in a Tony Stark funeral scene the film will be revisiting. He does not go as far as confirming that scene is specifically in the Encore footage, only that it is happening somewhere in Avengers: Doomsday, but coming a day after this leak description was posted, it is worth wondering if the two are connected.

The nice part about a leak like this is that we are only about two weeks out from finding out how accurate it is. We will know soon enough whether No More Mutants got it right, and whether this funeral revisit ends up in the Encore footage, the main film, or both.

The leak is missing any Doctor Doom, and I suspect that is the real point of this footage

What this description really lacks for me is any Doctor Doom at all. Marvel Studios is using this re-release to pad the box office and give a Doomsday tease, which feels self-serving on some level, but I understand the reasoning since they have not had a chance to properly introduce Doom yet. That is exactly my point: if they are adding what could be five to ten minutes of extra footage specifically to sell tickets, it seems unlikely none of it involves Doctor Doom. I actually suspect that at least half or a huge chunk of the footage will be exactly that.

There have been theories for a while that the three anvil strikes heard at the very end of Endgame, originally read as a callback to Tony Stark hammering his Iron Man mask in the cave, could now double as a lead-in to Doctor Doom in his armory room. That theory traces back to a photo from the first day of scoring, where a TV monitor behind composer Alan Silvestri showed a label referencing what appeared to be Doctor Doom's armory room. Since these scores are typically done sequentially as scenes are finalized, that could mean the armory room is either an early scene in the film itself or the first new footage attached to the end of the Encore release.

Cast members reportedly declined to discuss Victor Von Doom looking like Tony Stark at Comic-Con

At San Diego Comic-Con, reporters tried more than once to get cast members to address why Victor Von Doom looks like Tony Stark, and all of them clammed up and said that question would be answered later. Now we are hearing about this Tony Stark funeral scene being revisited, something that has been reported for the last year across multiple industry insiders and leaks, whether in the Encore footage or the film itself.

I do not want Marvel Studios to interfere with the intrinsic story that is Endgame, but I do want them to use these pieces to figure out a path forward. If a Stark funeral revisit is genuinely part of Avengers: Doomsday and not just the Encore footage, I cannot imagine they would return to that scene without putting something crucial into the dialogue between Steve Rogers, Pepper Potts, and Ant-Man. If Pepper is specifically part of that conversation, it is probably about Tony, and I do not think it is a stretch to wonder if that is the moment they choose to address how and why Victor Von Doom ends up looking like him.

What I want from this footage, and when tickets went on sale

If Marvel makes sure a flashback scene in Doomsday just adds to what we already saw rather than changing it, there is a way to do this that would not disappoint me, and I'm obviously more concerned with that than I am with them just getting us back to the theaters. That said, I am still going opening night myself. I believe tickets went on sale when the trailer dropped on 25 August, because they wanted to make sure we had spent all our money on Spider-Man and Avengers: Doomsday first.

As for what is actually said in that funeral conversation between Steve, Pepper, and Ant-Man, I have two guesses. Steve may have derived his plan to use Pym particles to go back in time and stay there with Peggy Carter from something said in that exact scene. Or it could be some revelation from Pepper about life being too short, and about what Tony sacrificed for what they now have and gained back, that gives Steve the push to go spend his life with Peggy.

Do you think there needs to be Doctor Doom in this Encore footage, and what do you think is actually said in that funeral conversation between Steve, Pepper, and Ant-Man?
