Star Wars Jedi 3 Rumoured for 2027 as Talk of a Marketing Push Begins
A new claim says the final chapter of Cal Kestis's story could release in 2027 with marketing starting soon, but nothing is confirmed yet.
A new rumour that started circulating yesterday claims the third Star Wars Jedi game will not only release in 2027, but that its marketing campaign is about to get going. There is no announced release date, no trailer, and Star Wars Jedi 3 is not even the official title yet, but I have a feeling about this one.
I have been covering this series for a while now, and sometimes you can just feel it in the air. I think we are there. Cal Kestis is coming back, and the big question hanging over all of it is whether Cal is going to die when he does. Further down I will get into the typical marketing window for big publishers and what it could mean for an actual launch month.
The 2027 rumour for Jedi 3 is not independently confirmed
Here is the rumour. Fiveswalker says the next Jedi game could release in 2027 and that its marketing is scheduled to begin soon. You have probably seen that line everywhere by now. It is out there, and it is being repeated by a lot of accounts.
The part I want you to notice is that "several accounts repeating the same claim does not mean several sources independently confirmed it." For now, treat 2027 as a possible target and marketing soon as a claim we are waiting to see tested. If the reveal actually happens, this conversation changes immediately.
What we do know is that Respawn is making the final chapter of Cal's story, and I have covered it extensively. Survivor came out more than three years ago. If 2027 is the target, we are getting a reveal really soon, and that makes sense. The exciting part is what that reveal could tell us about Cal, because Survivor led him to a place where a happy ending is far from guaranteed.
Why a 2027 release for the third Jedi game sounds believable
So why does the date sound more believable now? Fallen Order launched in 2019 and Survivor followed in 2023. A third game in 2027 would put roughly four years between the second and third entries, which is a reasonable development window on paper.
It is not proof of a schedule. Games can spend four years in development perfectly well and still need a whole other year. But this is not a rumour asking us to believe Respawn made a giant sequel in six months.
The game itself is real. EA and Lucasfilm announced that Respawn was working on another entry in the Jedi series, and Cameron Monaghan said back in 2023 that the third game was in the works. EA has since described it as the final chapter. That is the foundation underneath all of this speculation. The question is when Respawn is going to show it to us.
"Marketing soon" could mean a logo or a full trailer
That phrase, marketing soon, is doing the heavy lifting right now. A marketing campaign could begin with a logo and ten seconds of Cal breathing dramatically over a black screen. It could also mean an actual trailer, gameplay, or a release window. Those are very different types of reveals, and I can already see people turning the first kind into Jedi 3 confirmed for next spring.
For comparison, Survivor got its first teaser in May 2022 and released the following April. If Respawn begins showing the third game in late 2026, a 2027 launch is definitely doable. But that earlier schedule is a comparison, not a promise.
The first trailer needs to show who Cal Kestis has become
This reveal has a bigger job than simply telling us the game exists. Jedi Survivor ended with Cal gaining a place to shelter people from the Empire, but look at the cost. He lost a lot, he got betrayed, and when he was pushed far enough he started reaching for the dark side.
That is an incredible setup for a final game. Cal spent two stories surviving the Empire. Now he has people depending on him, a hidden refuge to protect, and a temptation he can no longer pretend is not there. The third game does not need a bigger Star Destroyer to raise the stakes. It needs to ask how far Cal will go when survival stops being just about him.
That is what I want the first trailer to understand. "Do not give me two minutes of familiar helmets, one shot of Vader, and a release year card." Show me who Cal has become. Is he building something on Tanalorr? Is he capable of giving the people around him a life not defined by what happened to her family? Has his connection to the dark side changed? Are we going to flash forward like the leaks say?
Gameplay has to build on Survivor's five lightsaber stances
The gameplay has a big challenge too. Survivor gave Cal five lightsaber stances. He can use two blades, a double blade, a crossguard saber, and somehow, in a Star Wars game, bring a blaster to a lightsaber fight. "You cannot open the finale by telling me Cal forgot all of that after hitting his head on the loading screen."
Give me a Cal who starts experienced. We have earned that. Then find new ways to challenge him. Maybe the stances interact more freely. Maybe the dark side carries a real cost instead of acting like another button to press when the meter fills. Maybe protecting other people changes how encounters work.
I am not claiming any of these features are in development. I am saying the third game has to advance from what Survivor built. A finale should feel like a payoff for all the commitment, time and work everybody put in, not a trip through another tutorial.
The final chapter has to launch without Survivor's technical problems
It also has to run well. I loved a lot of what Survivor did, but it had technical problems at launch that were impossible to ignore, especially on PC. If this rumour pans out and we get a 2027 release date or an announcement, I am going to be excited, but I will also be looking closely at actual gameplay and performance before I tell anybody we are there. The final chapter deserves a launch where people are talking about Cal's story instead of arguing about the frame rate.
That is one more reason the marketing rumour has people fired up. They are ready. We have been through earlier supposed reveal windows. Fans have heard predictions about this game around Star Wars Celebration and gaming showcases, and those came and went. That does not disprove this rumour, and I do feel something in the air this time, but I am drawing a line between a plausible schedule and a confirmed announcement.
What would convince me, and why holiday 2027 is possible
Here is what would convince me. Give me an official title. Give me a trailer that shows where Cal is in his life: did we flash forward, and how is he doing mentally, not just where he is standing. Give me gameplay that shows what Respawn has added. And if they do say 2027, show enough of the game that the date feels like a plan instead of a target somebody hopes to hit, because I want this rumour to be right.
Fallen Order made Cal worth following. Survivor made his future genuinely uncertain. A third game could deliver the rare Star Wars ending where I do not already know who lives, who dies, or what the galaxy will look like when it is over. That is what everybody loves about Cal's story.
One thing that is typical with big publishing studios is a marketing window of 12 to 18 months from the first trailer or teaser. Not everybody follows it, but it is the default pattern. If they drop something soon, we are looking at a possible 2027. If they run a 12 month marketing plan, I would go as far as to guess holiday season 2027, and the game could very easily drop in October if this rumour is true at all.
Will Cal Kestis survive the final game?
The big question remains whether Cal is going to survive. I have talked about it at length before, and a lot of people have told me they would be all right with it if he sacrifices himself, because it would be a crazy ending. I do not know. We will have to see. But I think it is going to be truly special, because the first two games have already set this third one up to be.
Would you be satisfied if Cal Kestis sacrificed himself in the final chapter, or do you want him to make it out alive?
