Star Wars Jedi 3 Could Be Targeting 2027, With Marketing Possibly Starting Soon, Insider Claims

A Star Wars insider suggests the final chapter of Cal Kestis' story could land next year, and the job listings, the gap between games and a change in leadership all make that window look plausible.

Star Wars Jedi 3 could be getting a big reveal very soon. According to a Star Wars insider, the final chapter in Cal Kestis' story could be targeting a release in 2027, with the marketing potentially kicking off much sooner than we expected.

If this is legit, we might not have to wait long before EA and Respawn finally show us what they have been working on. There is a lot to get through, from why 2026 was never realistic to what I want from the story, the combat and the ending, including one dark side idea I think would be insane.

An insider suggests Jedi 3 is a 2027 game with marketing coming soon

The claim comes from a Star Wars insider known in the community as a leaker who talks about the shows, the movies and the games. They recently quoted a list of the Star Wars projects lined up for 2027, which included the Star Wars 50th anniversary re-release, Starfighter, Ahsoka season 2 and Maul season 2. Their response was that 2027 will be awesome, adding Jedi 3 to the list with an "I think" attached.

Someone else on social media then asked why we had not already got the third game this year. The insider responded: "Marketing soon, I think, but it's been a bit since I've actually looked into it." Putting those two posts side by side, the picture being painted is that the marketing could start soon, with the game releasing in 2027.

Obviously, take this with a grain of salt. We do not know if it is legit or not. But honestly, I think the timing makes a lot of sense.

The last Jedi 3 release window, 2026, never happened

We have been down this exact road with Jedi 3 before. The last time someone put a window on this game, it did not happen. Back at the start of this year, Tim Gettys from Kinda Funny Games said on the Gamescast that he had heard things pointing to a 2026 release. His theory was a reveal around May near Summer Game Fest, with the game coming out in September. That obviously did not happen. There were also reports from Insider Gaming that spoke about the release window.

Looking back, though, 2026 was never really a realistic timeline. Throughout this year, Respawn has been posting job listings tied specifically to the Star Wars Jedi team, covering everything from environment design to sound and narrative design. One of those listings was a senior environment artist role that specifically mentioned building new assets and levels using Unreal Engine workflows, which is basically Jedi 3.

You typically do not hire narrative people for a game that is shipping in four months. That kind of tells me a big chunk of this game was still being built this year, which is exactly why a 2027 window lines up much better.

The gap between Fallen Order and Survivor supports a 2027 launch

Fallen Order came out in November 2019 and Jedi Survivor came out in April 2023, which is about three and a half years between the games. If Jedi 3 lands at some point in 2027, we are looking at roughly four years or more after Survivor, which is right in line with how long a bigger sequel like this one should take.

There is also one more factor that people forget. This is the first Jedi game being made without Stig Asmussen, the director of both Fallen Order and Survivor. He left Respawn and started his own studio, Giant Skull. So Respawn has been making the finale of this trilogy under new leadership, and that could easily add time to the process.

Then there is Vince Zampella, who sadly passed. He was really critical to the overall Respawn culture and the processes behind how the games get made there. That was definitely a big loss, along with Stig Asmussen's departure.

Jedi 3 is confirmed as the final chapter of Cal Kestis' story

If we are to believe this insider, we could be getting the marketing this year, which would make sense if the game is releasing next year. But the stakes are massive, because EA has already officially confirmed that Jedi 3 is the final chapter of Cal's story, and I think that changes everything. Fallen Order introduced Cal, Survivor expanded his story, and now Jedi 3 has to actually finish it. Will they stick the landing? That is the big question.

This is not a middle chapter where Respawn can leave ten questions hanging and come back to them later. The game has to give Cal some kind of ending. At the end of Survivor, he is significantly more powerful and experienced. He has lost people, and he has been pushed closer to the dark side than ever before. For the first time, he has a purpose beyond just surviving.

That is where Tanalorr comes in, with the possibility of building a safe haven for people trying to escape the Empire. I really think Jedi 3 is going to be built around that. Maybe Tanalorr has become an entire community by the time we see it again. Maybe Cal spent years building something there. Or maybe the Empire finds it, which I think would give Cal a really personal reason to possibly pick the lightsaber back up.

A Lucasfilm representative says more Cal stories are planned

Here is the twist, though. The final chapter does not mean the last time we will ever see Cal. According to a Lucasfilm representative, more Cal stories are planned, a statement made this year. They did not say whether that meant games, movies, books or shows. With Cameron Monaghan already playing him, moving Cal into live action would honestly be really easy.

That is why I am really curious about how Respawn ends this. I just hope the ending is built around what makes sense for Cal, not around keeping every door open for some future project.

Tom Henderson reports Cal could be significantly older after a time jump

That brings us to what might be the biggest story detail we have heard so far. According to Tom Henderson, Cal is going to be significantly older in Jedi 3. Henderson said it looks like a bigger time jump is planned, but he was upfront that his information was about a year old at the time, and that plans can easily change during development.

Still, I think a time jump is the smartest move Respawn could make. There was already a five year jump between Fallen Order and Survivor, and that is a big reason Survivor immediately felt different. Cal had changed, the galaxy had changed, and the whole crew had gone in different directions. If they do that again, Jedi 3 feels like a true finale instead of "Survivor part two, Electric Bugaloo."

Imagine opening the game and Cal has been on Tanalorr for years. He looks way older and is significantly more powerful. Maybe people see him as something close to a Jedi Master at this point. I think that is way more interesting than picking up six months after Survivor, which I do not think they are going to do.

A big enough time jump brings Cal close to the original trilogy

Depending on how big that time jump is, you start to get dangerously close to the original trilogy timeline, and I personally think that is where it gets really fun. Cal has fought Inquisitors, survived Darth Vader and has been fighting the Empire for years, so it would make sense for him to possibly show up in the original trilogy era.

I am not saying Luke Skywalker has to show up, or that Cal has to join the Rebel Alliance and start hanging out with Han Solo. Honestly, I would rather they avoid that unless it serves the story. But you cannot have a Jedi this powerful running around without eventually explaining where he is during the biggest moments of the franchise, and Jedi 3 is likely where we will finally get that answer.

Cal needs to feel powerful from the very first minute

In my opinion, Cal needs to feel really powerful in this game. Survivor already expanded the combat a ton compared to Fallen Order, with single blade, double bladed and dual wield. So where do you go from there? I do not think they need ten new stances. I would rather they take what is already there and make everything deeper.

And please, do not make the third game start by taking every ability away and making me relearn the Force. There has to be some power scaling. We are not dealing with the inexperienced Padawan from the start of Fallen Order. If the time jump is real, this is someone who has spent years fighting the Empire, and he should play like it from minute one. The Force powers should be a lot more advanced, and they could even expand the darker abilities we started seeing in Survivor.

Let us chain Force attacks together. Make the stronger enemies counter certain abilities so you are forced to switch stances midfight. They just have to evolve the combat without turning it into something completely different. And since this is the final game, there is no reason to hold back mechanics for a sequel. Give us everything and the kitchen sink.

The world should get bigger without becoming a checklist open world

The world should be bigger, but not too big. I am expecting the environments to keep growing. Fallen Order was contained and Survivor went a lot bigger, so the natural step is a handful of really large planets mixed with smaller, more focused locations.

If the game turns into a giant open world with 200 icons on the map, 50 outposts and a bunch of other busy work, it is going to completely miss what makes these games work. The best part of the Jedi games is how handcrafted everything feels. You see a ledge you cannot reach, ten hours later you unlock a new ability, come back and realise there is an entire section you never explored. That Metroidvania style is the identity of the series. They need to keep that, but make the places feel a bit more alive.

An older Cal means the story could, and should, get dark

If Cal really is older, I think the story could get pretty dark, and I think it should. Survivor already showed him struggling with anger and grief. He is not a perfectly composed Jedi who always makes the right call. He gets angry, he makes mistakes, and he is tempted by the dark side, which is what makes this so interesting. After even more years of war, maybe he is a lot more cynical, or really ruthless now.

With this being the ending, I would also assume not everyone is going to make it out alive. This is the end of a trilogy set during one of the darkest periods in Star Wars. That does not mean Respawn should kill Cal for shock value, because that might feel cheap. But if this really is the conclusion, the ending should not feel completely safe.

A Jedi or Sith choice with a different final boss

Maybe give players a choice to decide their own fate, similar to Ghost of Tsushima, where there is a pretty big decision to be made at the end. I will not spoil it, but perhaps at the end of Jedi 3 you choose which path to walk down: continue as a Jedi, or go to the dark side and walk away as a Sith.

If you walked away as a Sith, the final boss needs to be different. Maybe you have to fight Luke Skywalker and lose, or even have Yoda show up and just defeat you outright. That would be insane.

The Game Awards or Star Wars Celebration 2027 look like the likeliest reveal

For the reveal, I think the obvious candidate is The Game Awards in December. The summer showcases are long gone, EA has been completely silent, and if the insider is right about the marketing starting soon, December is the last big stage of the year. If it is not there, I expect the first teaser in 2027, most likely around Star Wars Celebration, which returns that year. That is probably our next best bet.

As for release, I would say it is probably going to be around the holiday season of 2027, maybe October or November, sometime late 2027. But I would not be shocked if it slips to 2028. Given the technical issues the second game had, if the game needs more time, give it all the time it needs.

Should Jedi 3 let players choose between ending Cal's story as a Jedi or walking away as a Sith?
