Sandra Hüller Appears Headed to Avengers: Doomsday, and Doctor Doom's Wife Is One Guess for Her Role

Stunt resumes point to the actress joining the film, while a New York Comic Con booth recreates a Latverian village

Sandra Hüller, the actress from Anatomy of a Fall and The Zone of Interest, is going to be in Avengers: Doomsday, it sounds like. The news came out this week through a series of stunt actors' resumes that listed work as the stunt person for Sandra Hüller, and that's where we got the information.

We hope that's okay, and we hope that stunt performer doesn't get fired. Knowing Hüller is in it is making us even more excited for Doomsday. Alongside that casting news, New York Comic Con has offered a closer look at Doctor Doom and his home country of Latveria.

A Doctor Doom display puts him in front of the Doomstadt tapestry

We're not at New York Comic Con this year. We had a lot going on in Burbank and couldn't make it, and hopefully we'll go next year. We're following people who are on the ground there, including our friends Brandon Davis and Eric Goldman, along with AIPT, a comic book news outlet that's posting from the show. They're doing the hard work here, and much of this news comes from that coverage.

AIPT shared an image of a Doctor Doom display at the Marvel booth. It's a costume we've already seen at D23, but for the first time, Doom is placed in front of the tapestry that appears in the Doomstadt in Avengers: Doomsday. That tapestry shows, we think, his wife and child.

Why Sandra Hüller could be playing Doom's wife

Hüller is in a lot of movies about the ends of worlds this year, including Project Hail Mary. She picks her projects carefully, and you can tell she's got some real darkness in her. With an actress of her status, you have to wonder what part in Doomsday would be big enough to be worthy of her talents.

A lot of people are speculating that she's going to be Doctor Doom's dead wife. She's also a German actress, which may make it easier for her to manifest a Latverian accent than it would be for some other people. Or maybe it's just her regular German accent.

From what we know about Avengers: Doomsday, the only open roles seem to be Doom's wife, his daughter, and the Latverian witches. There could obviously be plenty of other characters we don't know about, but those are the parts people know the film needs to cast. With an actress like her, the bet is plain: "My money is on wife."

Other ways Hüller might fit into Avengers: Doomsday

That's a good pick, but there's also always a chance of a smaller role. We brought up Alfre Woodard in Captain America: Civil War, confronting Tony Stark after his speech, as an example of dropping an excellent actress into a single scene. Maybe Hüller is a resident of Latveria. Maybe she's a professor at Harvard who's an expert in Central European studies. There are other possibilities.

There's also the voice route. Marvel got Carrie Coon to voice Proxima Midnight, a fully CGI character, so Hüller could potentially be a voice performer for something like a Doombot. And we'd love it if she's just working at a fast food restaurant in Latveria.

The Marvel shop is apparently designed to look like a Latverian village

The Marvel shop at the show is apparently designed to look like a Latverian village, with cobblestone bricks. That's a setting we haven't seen in any of the Doomsday trailers. We've seen the interior of the Doomstadt castle, but not the neighboring village or any of the Latverian countryside. We're hearing rumors, though, that a lot of action is going to happen in that setting.

First off, we love the aesthetic. The officially licensed booth is, I think, being run by Heroes and Villains, and they do cool work. It gives the designers and Marvel an opportunity to explore an aesthetic we haven't spent a lot of time with in the MCU.

Places like Avengers Tower and wherever Tony lives tend to be very state of the art and shiny. This is old school. This is stones, the kind of place you'd only heat with a giant fireplace. They don't build them like this anymore.

Which role do you think Sandra Hüller is most likely to play in Avengers: Doomsday?
