Avengers: Doomsday's Saddest Death Reportedly Has a Twist: No Return in Secret Wars
An insider says a hero whose movie many people hate sacrifices himself before the final incursion, and I think I have a pretty good idea who it is
A new insider report claims the saddest death in Avengers: Doomsday belongs to a character whose movie many people hate, and that he sacrifices himself so other characters can escape the final incursion. The twist is that, according to the same insider, anyone who dies naturally before that final incursion will not return in Avengers: Secret Wars, which would make this death permanent.
The report does not name the character, but I think I have a pretty good idea who it is. I don't like this. If our predictions and theories are accurate, it will be pretty sad to actually see. Below I go through the characters who could fit, the ones I am ruling out, and the one I believe it is.
An insider says Avengers: Doomsday's saddest death belongs to the hero of a hated movie
This comes from insider James Mack, who states that the saddest death in Avengers: Doomsday is a character whose movie many people hate. That detail is a key part of this. According to the report, he sacrifices himself so that other characters can escape the final incursion.
We have heard about this kind of thing before, and it is not the first time names have been floated for who might die. If you think about some of the characters going up against Doctor Doom, who is soloing Thor, it makes sense that some people are going to die.
The twist: this sacrifice reportedly means no return on Battleworld
Someone I saw responding to this news basically said it does not matter because the character is just going to return in Secret Wars. That reaction comes from what we have heard before: that Doctor Doom resurrects everybody who dies and puts them on Battleworld for Secret Wars.
But the insider says anyone who dies naturally before the final incursion won't return in Avengers: Secret Wars. The person in question sacrifices themselves before the incursion happens. So, going by this report, it really does seem like this character is going to die permanently. No resurrection, and no returning on Battleworld.
Why I am ruling out Shang-Chi and Doctor Strange
There are characters who kind of fit the bill but who we can knock off the list right away. Shang-Chi is the first. I know there are some people out there who don't like that movie, but I personally love it. It is one of my favourite Marvel movies in general. I think Shang-Chi is safe, especially because we know we are getting a Shang-Chi 2, and that is not coming until after Secret Wars.
Doctor Strange is the other. Multiverse of Madness gets some hate, but I think a lot of people have come around to it a little bit more, and the audience score for it is actually pretty good. Plus, we know he is going to be in Avengers: Secret Wars because we have already seen the leaked concept art. And as much as I love Doctor Strange, I am not sure how sad his death would be anyway.
Bucky could reach the end of the line, but I don't think Sam Wilson dies
This one is very interesting, so I'm just going to say it: Bucky. We have heard rumours that Bucky might make a sacrifice for Steve Rogers. Nothing is confirmed. But the idea is that he might call this the end of the line, since he once told Steve, I'm with you till the end of the line. Bucky might decide this is it and tell Steve to save himself because he has a wife and a kid now. Maybe, unless Doctor Doom erases his kid. We'll see on that.
This falls in line with some other characters too. I do think they are going to recast Captain America. Kevin Feige has basically told us that already: down the line we are going to get new Avengers, a new Captain America, a new Iron Man. Basically, the originals are going to be recast. If you recast Steve Rogers and tell his story again, even without going fully into the origin, you need another Bucky. I would say the same for Sam Wilson, the current Captain America. You would need a new Sam Wilson and a new Falcon.
Anthony Mackie had something to say about this at Comic-Con. He said Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky, "looks at both of us and goes, 'So, which one of us is going to die?'" Mackie also said, "I think the big thing is the amount of doom you're going to see," describing it as if every corner you turn there is a lot of doom outside. I think he was referring to Doomsday in general, with universes colliding, but we are also going to see a lot of Doctor Doom as the main character of the movie, which is great. Based on that, I think it is probably just Bucky, not Sam, though maybe something happens to Sam in Secret Wars. I'm not sure.
Shuri might die, but I'm not sure she is this death
We have heard Shuri might actually die, and there is a new Black Panther coming. I don't know exactly what people thought about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. I know people thought it wasn't as good as the first one, and it was different because of the unfortunate passing of Chadwick Boseman.
I think Shuri might die, but I am not sure that is the specific death this report is talking about.
Why I believe Ant-Man is the one who sacrifices himself
The specific death is Ant-Man. That's what I believe, and it makes sense based on everything we have heard. Going into a new Avengers team in the new MCU, a lot of people have been wondering what that team will look like and whether it will be the same lineup of Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye. Probably not. They might go back to the original approach and include a new Ant-Man, who might be Hank Pym from the beginning. It's possible.
The reason this makes so much sense is that we have heard Ant-Man tells Cassie she can't go into the final fight and that she needs to get people into the quantum realm. We have also heard that Ant-Man and his daughter Cassie Lang fit Mr. Fantastic's ship, the Fantastic Four ship, with Pym particle technology so it can travel to the quantum realm. Basically a fail safe: if we lose, Cassie, get out, save as many people as you can, take the ship and go into the quantum realm.
We have heard Mr. Fantastic is going to be part of that ship, probably piloting it, and that the Young Avengers are going to be on it and save other people along the way. That might happen because Scott Lang sacrifices himself. And I know people hated Quantumania. So unfortunately everything really lines up for it to be Ant-Man, sacrificing himself to save his daughter and helping them escape through the quantum realm, with a movie that not a lot of people liked. I think that is who is going to die.
Why losing Scott Lang would be sad to me
I find this sad, to be perfectly honest. I have seen people online saying they don't care if Ant-Man dies and that it doesn't matter to them. To me it does. I love Paul Rudd as an actor and I think he's fantastic. I am going back through Friends right now and just got to the part where he appears, and you forget how many movies he has been in. He's in Anchorman.
As Ant-Man, I think he brings a certain flair that I really, really like. I know not a lot of people are super big fans of his movies, but I find them pretty entertaining and funny. They're not the best by any means, but they are really enjoyable. So this is going to be pretty sad.
Most people I asked also landed on Ant-Man
I asked my community who they think this report is about, and right away answer after answer came back Ant-Man, some of them saying 100 percent. Most people kind of agree on the same person.
There were other suggestions. Captain Marvel came up, and that could definitely work, but I still think it's Ant-Man. She-Hulk came up, but we have seen leaked Secret Wars concept art with She-Hulk in it, so I don't think it's her. Sam Wilson came up, and I will say he fits the bill as well, because I don't think a lot of people like Captain America: Brave New World. I didn't hate it. I thought it was decent, but it should have been a lot better, and Anthony Mackie really got a raw deal in that movie.
Someone suggested Kingo, but I don't think the Eternals are in this one. Thor came up because people did not like Thor: Love and Thunder, which is a good point, but I don't think Thor is dying. One person said it had better not be Cyclops, and I 100 percent agree. Red Guardian and US Agent were mentioned, but I think most people really enjoyed Thunderbolts, and I don't think that movie got enough hate for people to say they hate it. Going through the list, Ant-Man seems to be the one.
This is still an unconfirmed insider report
Again, this is not confirmed. It's an insider report, and who knows what Marvel is cooking up. I have heard from a source who told me that Marvel has put out intentional fake material, so maybe this is one of those. Fingers crossed.
But let's be honest, we know people are going to die against Doctor Doom. We have heard it is going to be a dark movie, almost horror like. We will see what happens, but if this report is accurate, I think Ant-Man is biting the dust.
Who do you think this report is about: Ant-Man, Bucky, Sam Wilson, or someone else entirely?
