Avengers: Doomsday theory: Ant-Man's Kang warning helps Doom

A theory on how Scott Lang's warning about Kang could help Doctor Doom win the trust of Earth's heroes, until the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and Loki's team expose him

Avengers: Doomsday theory: Ant-Man's Kang warning helps Doom

Many people want Kang's story to finish in the MCU, and I think Marvel is going to give us that closure in Avengers: Doomsday through Ant-Man. My theory is that Scott Lang warns Earth's heroes about Kang, and Doctor Doom uses that warning, and the Kang story itself, to trick the Avengers into trusting him.

Plenty of people still want Kang to be the main big bad, but we have Dr. Doom now. That left people wondering what happens to Kang and the story Marvel Studios was setting up. Will he go away and never be mentioned again? Maybe Marvel tells us the TVA took care of Kang, much like it showed us at the end of Loki season 2. But for somebody who was supposed to be such a big threat, simply saying the TVA took care of him, when he was the one who started the TVA, doesn't work for some fans, myself included.

Paul Rudd reportedly has a very important role in Avengers: Doomsday

At the time, insider DanielRPK reported that Paul Rudd is going to have a very important role in Avengers: Doomsday. That seemed to line up with what Marvel Studios showed at Destination D23, a big Disney event. There, Marvel played a sizzle reel of clips from previous Marvel movies, previous X-Men films and the Fantastic Four. The Russo brothers also came out and delivered a message with Paul Rudd.

Much like he did in Avengers: Endgame, Ant-Man might have a big role to play in Avengers: Doomsday. I think it might have to do with Kang. I also think this is the reason people might trust Dr. Doom at the beginning of the film.

Doctor Doom could manipulate the heroes by calling Kang the real villain

We'd already heard reports that Dr. Doom is going to manipulate pretty much everybody, which is something we expected, and that he's going to do it with his face. Robert Downey Jr. is returning to play Dr. Doom for a very specific reason, and the Russo brothers say him looking like Tony ties into the end of Avengers: Endgame. So the fact that he looks like Tony is probably how he's going to manipulate people.

Another way I think he does this is by stating that Kang is the real villain. If the reports we've been hearing are true, Doom actually believes this. He thinks Kang is the real villain of the multiverse, which, yes, he was. But now Doom is supposed to be that threat, so it would make sense to tie Kang into Doom's story a little.

I don't think this goes on for very long in the movie, because Marvel probably doesn't want to focus on Kang at all. But they probably, or at least I hope, realize they need to bring Kang's story to an end for the casual audience members who saw Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and specifically its post credits scene. Good storytelling wouldn't ignore it. In fact, Marvel could use it to amplify Doom's story, which is where I think Scott Lang comes in.

Scott Lang is the only hero on Earth who has met a Kang variant

Scott is the only one on our Earth who has come in contact with a Kang variant. Remember the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which set things up so that he unleashed Kang the Conqueror in a way. We've also heard reports about a very specific scene in Avengers: Doomsday where Ant-Man should bring this up.

Previous insider reports say Shuri will be the one who first discovers the threat of an incursion to their Earth, and that she then tells the rest of the world's heroes. That makes sense, since Wakanda is the most technologically advanced place on the planet. In the Thunderbolts post credits scene, they also mentioned a space crisis. Clearly something is happening in space, which would cause Wakanda, the Thunderbolts and probably the other Avengers under Sam Wilson to monitor it.

Then there are Captain Marvel and Thor. Captain Marvel knows Monica is in another universe, so she knows about the multiverse. Thor is said to be told about the incursion by his adopted daughter, Love, who is reportedly tapped into the universe because she is almost an offspring of Eternity, with some of Eternity's powers in her.

So the heroes are going to get together and talk about the coming incursion. This is where Scott could share what he learned about the multiverse, and about Kang, a villain who wants to rule the entire multiverse and has destroyed many universes. It would be nice if he did try to warn them about the guy who said he'd killed so many Avengers that they all blur together.

Doctor Doom could claim he defeated every Kang

But this movie isn't about Kang anymore. It's about Doom. So enter Doom in the 616 universe, where we believe he will use the fact that he looks like Tony Stark to manipulate Earth's heroes. He'll say the multiverse is in danger, Ant-Man will mention Kang, and Doom will answer that Kang, or the Kangs, were the big threat to the multiverse, but he defeated them.

To establish Doom as the true big bad, Marvel should say he's the one who defeated all the Kangs, especially if they aren't going to touch that story much at all. You need to get rid of them, and Doom needs to be the one to do it. All you'd have to show is Doom walking into a giant coliseum where all the other Kangs were. You wouldn't even need faces. They'd be blurry because he's so far away, and he'd unleash a giant green energy blast. From there, he'd have Kang's technology, making him even more powerful.

The reports we'd heard before said Dr. Doom hates Kang for secluding the sacred timeline and creating the TVA. Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus also reported that there was an original 616 timeline that had the X-Men and the Fantastic Four along with the Avengers, but Kang took them out in some way, shape or form. Reportedly, Doom knows this too and is angry that Kang tampered with everything. I think that's a good way to conclude Kang's story.

Doctor Doom could also paint Loki as the villain

Kang could also lead to Loki, who I think Dr. Doom is going to call the villain too. I think he'll say Loki took over He Who Remains' throne and the TVA once all the Kangs were eliminated. If you think about it, most of the Avengers do view Loki as a villain, especially a variant.

Sure, Thor could tell them Loki turned good at the end, that he was with Thor and with Asgard, and that he sort of sacrificed himself trying to kill Thanos. Thanos was too powerful and killed him, but Loki still gave his life. But this is a variant. They know their version of Loki is dead, and most versions of Loki are probably bad.

Since they've realized the multiverse is in jeopardy and their Earth is about to face an incursion, Doom confirming to Scott Lang that he did fight a Kang the Conqueror and got rid of all of them would make them all trust Doom.

The Fantastic Four and the X-Men could expose Doctor Doom

That trust lasts until the Fantastic Four show up, which is probably going to be the big one. They show up and say Dr. Doom is not a hero, that he took their son and kidnapped him. Even then you could still have some doubt, because the Avengers don't know the Fantastic Four and probably don't know if they can trust them at first either.

That's where the X-Men come in. We know Doom is going to attack the X-Mansion, and that it's going to be a big battle, because we've seen the leaked set photos with a lot of destruction around it. So when the Avengers finally go to the X-Men's universe to try to get Monica, the X-Men will explain that Dr. Doom attacked them. This is where it all starts to come together.

Loki's multiversal Avengers team could reveal the stakes before Battleworld

The final piece of the puzzle is Loki's multiversal Avengers team. I think it's most likely going to be Sylvie, Deadpool and Wolverine, X-23, Channing Tatum's Gambit, and hopefully some other variants from the multiverse. Loki should see what Dr. Doom is doing, so he sends his team to try to stop him. That's when they run into our heroes and the X-Men.

From there, they'll explain that Loki is not bad and that he's holding the entire multiverse together. Perhaps they could even mention Yggdrasil, and Thor would start to realize that Loki's glorious purpose wasn't to rule all but to free all, letting all the branches grow out of the timeline and giving everybody true free will.

That's where they should explain that if Doom gets to Loki and dethrones him, everything gets destroyed, which I do think happens. I think the entire multiverse gets destroyed except for one thing: Battleworld, a world made of remnants of different universes combined, which would take us into Avengers: Secret Wars.

That's how I think Marvel could tie Ant-Man's important role to Dr. Doom getting rid of Kang the Conqueror. I think that role is to warn the Avengers that there is a new massive threat out there. They might think it's Kang at first, but ultimately they'll realize it's Dr. Doom.
