Avengers: Doomsday and Doom's Trophy Room at New York Comic-Con: Why I Think the Concept Will Show Up in the Movie

A Doom laboratory full of artifacts, from the Ultimate Nullifier to Thanos's helmet, could hint at what Doctor Doom has been collecting across the multiverse.

Marvel may have just confirmed some big Avengers: Doomsday theories with what it did at New York Comic-Con, where it set up a Doom laboratory that is basically a trophy room filled with artifacts from heroes and villains. I think the concept is going to show up in Avengers: Doomsday, and it might tie into one of the post-credits scenes that just released for Avengers: Endgame Encore.

It might also tie into the theory a lot of people have that there could be more than one Doctor Doom, and that Robert Downey Jr.'s Doom might not be the main one or the only one. Spoiler alert for myself: I think he is the only one, and I'll get into why below.

Marvel's Doom Laboratory at New York Comic-Con Is a Trophy Room

Besides giving us yet another great look at Doctor Doom's costume, Marvel had a Doom room at New York Comic-Con, a Doom laboratory. This costume is the one a lot of people are dubbing the Victor Von Doom outfit. Then there's the Doctor Doom outfit, which is kind of the one advertised in the first and second trailers, and then there's Lord Doom, which was revealed via some toy leaks recently. I love the Victor Von Doom one, and it looks fantastic.

The laboratory itself is a collection. It's a trophy room. Call it what it is. Of course, this is just a booth at Comic-Con, but we do know Marvel is teasing a lot for Doom and Avengers: Doomsday, and this is really a Doom thing to do. So I do think there is a tease here. Perhaps not all of the artifacts show up, but I think the concept is definitely going to show up in the movie.

Marvel Reportedly Planned a Trophy Room for Kang the Conqueror

This is something Marvel should have done, and it sounds like they were going to do it with Kang the Conqueror. It's crazy to think that Quantumania was not a great movie, but there was greatness in it. I was really excited for Kang, and the moment where he says "you're an Avenger. Have I killed you before?" was amazing.

They obviously set it up so that Kang has fought many Avengers and defeated pretty much probably all of them, because he talks about killing so many Avengers that the names blur together. At some point, it was rumored that in Kang Dynasty, the main Kang, whoever that was going to be, would have a trophy room with helmets and hammers and whatever artifacts of people he'd defeated. It looks like Marvel Studios might be going the same way for Doctor Doom.

The Doom Flag and Ultimate Nullifier Lead Into Doom's Collection

Before you even go in, you see the new Doctor Doom flag that the Russo brothers revealed with their little coffee thing not too long ago. So we know that's in the movie. Right away going into the room, you see something from the film, which is why I think a decent amount of this will actually be in Avengers: Doomsday, especially the concept.

The first artifact is the Ultimate Nullifier, the weapon the Fantastic Four used to defeat Galactus, essentially. That's a pretty cool tease, since we've heard a lot about Doctor Doom and Galactus as far as rumors are concerned. Keep this in mind as we go through the rest: this is just my own personal theory based on what we've heard, but I think Doom has been to a lot of different universes at this point. I think he's dealt with a lot of heroes and villains, and I do think he is collecting. A trophy room or collection room would definitely point to that.

Cyclops's Visor, the Silver Surfer's Board and Thanos's Helmet Are on Display

Another item is the Cosmic Cube. We know it as the Tesseract, but it's a Cosmic Cube, and I wonder if the MCU might actually switch that a little bit since it would come from a different universe. Then there's Cyclops's visor, which is very specific. In the comic Secret Wars, Doom does kill Cyclops. I hope that's not the case in Doomsday or in the Secret Wars film, but it's really cool to see.

Next is part of the Silver Surfer's board, which would be pretty crazy. If Doom has run into Galactus, it seems like he would probably have run into the Silver Surfer as well. There's also a symbiote, which I'll come back to, because I think it ties into Spider-Man possibly in Doomsday or Secret Wars. Then there's a part of Thor's hammer Mjolnir. That's Uru metal, destroyed, and we've seen Mjolnir destroyed by Hela before in the MCU. Finally there's Ultron's mask, which is really cool, and Thanos's helmet.

Why I Think Multiple Doom Masks Don't Mean Robert Downey Jr. Isn't the Real Doom

Something a lot of people have been talking about is that there are multiple Doom masks in the room, and they're all evidently different from the ones we've seen in the teasers. That has people thinking they knew it all along: there are going to be multiple variants of Doctor Doom in the movie, and Robert Downey Jr.'s Doom is not the real Doom.

As I said above, I think he is the real Doom. I don't think you pay someone over a hundred million dollars to come back and play a character who isn't the main character. I'm not saying there aren't other variants of Victor Von Doom, but RDJ's is the main one, and I would be absolutely shocked if it wasn't. Could another one become the main Doom in the next part of the MCU? Sure. But for Doomsday and Secret Wars, I think it's Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom. He's done a lot already to be Doom.

Could there be other Dooms in other universes that Victor might have killed? Yes, and that's what I actually think is more likely. That's happened in the comics. Doom has killed versions of himself out of pure pettiness sometimes. He encountered another Victor Von Doom who had literally a perfect world, and Doom killed him and the entire world with it, because he's Doom and he's petty. That's literally the entire thing, so it's a very Doom thing to do.

I Think Doom Is Collecting, and We Already Know He Collected the Hulk

I think Doom has been fighting people, but I think he's also been collecting people. We already know he has collected the Hulk. That was one of the post-credits scenes for Avengers: Endgame Encore, where he literally said, "I'm here to collect you." So I think he's tried to collect other people and other artifacts, and some might have put up a fight.

I think he probably went to collect a Thanos, and that Thanos refused and decided to fight, and Doom killed him and might have taken his helmet. That's why we see it in there. Same thing with Galactus and the Silver Surfer. Although I guess the Ultimate Nullifier doesn't exactly say he fought Galactus. That could be something he took from the Fantastic Four, who took it from Galactus. Who knows? We'll wait and see if it ends up being an artifact he has.

I do think he has access to the Library of Worlds, a place that exists outside of space and time. I think he has something like that, and that's where he'd keep everything. Maybe he keeps it at his castle, or I think he'd probably keep a portal to it at his castle so he could just go there, because I don't think he'd leave these things around for anybody to access.

The Symbiote Could Mean a Lot for Spider-Man in Doomsday or Secret Wars

Then there's the symbiote. Doom collected the Hulk, or Bruce Banner, and a lot of people are asking about the Spider-Man: Brand New Day post-credits scene with that glitch. We got the same glitch for the Hulk when Doom showed up, so does that mean Doom kidnapped or collected Spider-Man and took him somewhere else?

There's been a lot of talk about Spider-Man finally getting the symbiote in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. If he's on Doom's side and Doom has the symbiote, that could come into play. When I say on his side, I mean because Doom did something to Spider-Man. I don't think Spider-Man would just join Doom unless Doom showed him his face and he looked like Tony Stark. Maybe. We really don't know. But I think Doom would give him the symbiote to make him stronger and a tiny bit more evil. Or maybe Doom has figured out how to control the symbiote. I think he can just control people in general.

Maestro Hulk, Ultron and King Thanos Could Be Doom's Followers

So picture Spider-Man with the symbiote, the Hulk behind him, possibly turned into some version of Maestro Hulk, because that's a rumor that's been going around, and possibly Ultron on his side. We've heard that as well, and Ultron is returning in VisionQuest, which is coming out next week.

We've also heard about King Thanos. So perhaps a regular variant of Thanos from another universe fought Doom and Doom beat him, but perhaps there's a Thanos out there who decided to join him because he's a little smarter than the other ones. In Secret Wars, we've been told Doom is going to give sections of Battleworld to people, and it would make sense that he'd give those sections to his followers, the people who chose to follow him and not fight him.

I Think a Trophy Room Would Really Establish Doctor Doom as a Threat

I don't think everything from this booth is going to be in Avengers: Doomsday. It's obviously something Doom related for New York Comic-Con. But they have a lot of things on display for the movie, they know everybody is waiting to see Doom, and this is something Doom would do. It's something they were planning to do with Kang, so I think they bring it into this film. I think it would really establish Doom as a threat if he had artifacts from really powerful people he has defeated.

There hasn't really been a lot of buildup to Doom. A lot of people know about him, but casual fans are going to have to be introduced to the right version of Doctor Doom, since we haven't had that on screen before. They'll need some kind of backstory and to be told how powerful he really is. They'll know he's smart because of what Sue Storm said in that special look: Victor was always the smartest guy in every single room, and he was kind and caring. But you also have to establish that he's an incredibly powerful sorcerer and very tech savvy. There are a lot of sides to Doom.

I think this is a great way to show just how strong, powerful and smart he is, and by smart I mean not only a genius but smart with combat, because there's a difference. I think a decent amount of this will be adapted in Avengers: Doomsday, and I hope all of it is. I think there's going to be a lot more, and I hope he has a grand hall that's just a trophy room full of artifacts collected from other people. I think it gives us a little preview into Avengers: Doomsday.

Which artifact from Doom's trophy room would you most like to see in Avengers: Doomsday?
