Every Marvel Project on the Insider List to See Before Avengers: Doomsday, and What Each One Sets Up

An insider was asked what the obligatory watches are before Doomsday, and he shared a list. I went through every entry to explain why it might matter.

When an insider was asked what the obligatory watches are to prepare for Avengers: Doomsday, he gave a list, and it is quite a list. It runs from the first Avengers movie all the way to Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, and below I go through each entry and what I think it sets up.

Avengers: Doomsday is said to have over 70 characters. The new Avengers, the Thunderbolts (the Avengers with a Z), the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, the Wakandans, Loki and his team, Steve Rogers, people from the 828 universe and, who knows, maybe characters from 838 all have a place. Lewis Pullman, who plays Sentry in the MCU, said in an interview that the Russo brothers won't let characters sit in the background. I take that to mean each character in this movie is going to get the attention it deserves. Some will get more than others, but each one will be done justice. It is a little unexpected, and I would throw some of my own in and maybe take some out.

Avengers, Age of Ultron and Endgame are on the list, but Infinity War is not

The list starts with Avengers from 2012. I think this is obviously a big one, and it was something you had to see for Endgame as well. Endgame did a pretty good job of putting that story right into its time travel section, but if you never saw the first Avengers movie, you did not get the full weight of that scene. I assume the same will be true for Avengers: Doomsday.

Avengers: Age of Ultron and Avengers: Endgame are also listed. What is really interesting is that Infinity War is not. But if you think about it, the deaths that were permanent came in Endgame, and I believe the focus is more on Tony Stark and Captain America than anything else. The two end scenes, Tony Stark dying and Captain America going back and then returning as a very old man, are obviously going to be the most important things you need to know.

Age of Ultron will be important too, because I think some scenes with Thor, and possibly even Ultron appearing, could go back to that movie.

WandaVision points to the Scarlet Witch's fate being addressed

I really like seeing WandaVision here, because it makes me think Wanda, the Scarlet Witch, is going to be in Avengers: Doomsday. We started hearing more rumblings about this, such as Doctor Doom having followers and some of them being actual witches. We have also been hearing that the Scarlet Witch will return in some capacity.

It was not confirmed that we would see her in Doomsday, but some insiders are saying we will learn of her fate there. That could mean we see her, or they mention she is alive, or they mention she is dead, although I don't believe that is the route they are going to go. So it looks like she is returning, and WandaVision is worth your time. Vision is also confirmed to be in at least Avengers: Secret Wars, so that matters as well.

Loki seasons 1 and 2 might be the most important entry

This one I think might be the most important on the list. Loki taught us so much about variants and the multiverse, and about what was originally going to be the next Avengers movie, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, with Kang.

Marvel pivoted away from that, but all the basic principles the show taught are basically the same. The multiversal war and all the incursions are really, really important. So if you have not seen the first and, not or, but and the second season of Loki, you definitely need to.

What If seasons 2 and 3 may hint at the Watcher and cosmic entities

This one is interesting. The list does not mention What If season 1, only seasons 2 and 3, which is where we get into a multiversal team and the Watcher getting involved. We have heard rumblings that the Watcher will be involved in Avengers: Doomsday and or Avengers: Secret Wars. We are not sure which one, but we have heard Marvel might be throwing some cosmic entities in there, and the Watcher could be among them. I think that is really what the list is implying.

Shang-Chi is already confirmed, with photos from the set

I was really glad to see this one. Shang-Chi is already confirmed, and we have seen photos of him on set. With what Lewis Pullman said about each character getting their time and not sitting in the background, I am really excited, because Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was one of my favorite projects from the Multiverse Saga, which Marvel Studios put out after Endgame.

No Way Home's broken spell could have big implications for Doomsday

I think No Way Home is going to be a pretty big one. The list is specifically about Avengers: Doomsday, but I think it also applies to Avengers: Secret Wars, where we have been hearing that all three Spider-Men will be reunited.

As far as we are concerned, we are not going to see Tom Holland in Doomsday. We are reportedly going to see Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man at the beginning of Doomsday, which is awesome. I also think the spell and the universe breaking at the end of No Way Home are going to have some pretty big implications. I wouldn't be surprised if they unintentionally cause some incursions to happen, and Doctor Doom exposes that.

Doctor Strange 2 may lead to Strange joining Doctor Doom

Doctor Strange 1 and 2 are both very important, and I would say Doctor Strange 2 is one of the most important movies you probably need to see before Doomsday. It talks a lot about incursions, and specifically about how Doctor Strange is the biggest threat to the multiverse according to the Illuminati.

We have heard that Doctor Strange and his variants throughout the multiverse have been causing actual incursions, and I do believe this leads to Doctor Strange joining Doctor Doom. We will have to wait and see, but it really does seem like that is going to be the case.

Ms. Marvel and the Young Avengers are set for a small role in Doomsday

The Young Avengers are set to have a minor role in Avengers: Doomsday and a bigger role in Avengers: Secret Wars. We have seen leaked concept art of the Young Avengers for Secret Wars as well. So getting acquainted with Kamala Khan through Ms. Marvel is probably pretty important.

Thor: Love and Thunder showed us Eternity, and cosmic entities are rumored

Some might not like hearing this one. Despite the movie being what it was, and a lot of people not really liking it, Thor: Love and Thunder had some pretty important moments. We physically saw Valhalla, kind of. We did not see many people there, just Heimdall and Jane Foster. And we saw Eternity.

As I mentioned above, cosmic entities are rumored, nothing confirmed, to be appearing in Doomsday or Secret Wars. If the multiverse is on the brink of collapse and there is a sole person responsible, Doctor Doom, it would make sense for the cosmic entities to try to interfere. So if you have to rewatch Thor 4, rewatch it, and if you have not seen it, you need to. Just know that Thor is going to be very different in Doomsday. They already showed us that in the trailer.

She-Hulk is the one entry I don't think is necessary

Some might not like hearing this either, but She-Hulk is on the list. I think this remains to be seen. I think the character will remain in the MCU, and if they are going to recast the actress, they might. We have heard a lot, nothing confirmed, and there has been a lot of drama because Tatiana Maslany said, "Cancel your Disney Plus subscriptions." when the Jimmy Kimmel situation happened. Who knows what will happen there.

If there is one entry you really don't need, it is probably this one. I don't think you have to know much about her character to understand her involvement. She is the cousin of Bruce Banner, and I think that is what you need. Rewatch it if you want, but I don't think it is necessary.

Black Panther 2 matters because of the Wakanda and Talokan trailer

There is a report that we will eventually get a new Black Panther in Avengers: Secret Wars, but we had already gotten the Wakanda and Talokan trailer for Doomsday. So knowing what happened in Black Panther 2 is very clearly going to be important going in. That is a given.

Ant-Man 3's Kang concepts could carry over to Doctor Doom

This one makes me sigh a little, because Ant-Man 3 could have been done so differently. We learned all about Kang, his attempt to conquer the multiverse and the Council of Kangs. Ultimately, all of that was scrapped.

I do think they are going to take a lot of the concepts from Ant-Man 3 and bring them into Doctor Doom's story. I am always hoping they will wrap up Kang's story. The end of Loki season 2 basically shows that the TVA and some Avengers can take care of it, but I feel like we need something bigger. The implications of this movie come down to Ant-Man's knowledge, and I believe what he learned about Kang is going to come into play in Doomsday.

The Marvels post credit scene puts Monica Rambeau in the X-Men universe

This is actually one of the more important ones, specifically the ending and the post credit scene. Monica Rambeau ends up in another universe, and the post credit scene shows she is in the X-Men universe. That is pretty big. From what we have heard, Carol Danvers has been searching for a way to find Monica ever since that movie, and that is going to come into play in Doomsday.

Deadpool and Wolverine's Void could be the life raft

Just rewatch this one if you haven't, because it is awesome. I think the Void is going to be one of the biggest keys for both Doomsday and Secret Wars. I think it will be something like a life raft from the comics, where heroes go to survive the destruction of the multiverse and the creation of Battleworld.

That is big, because whoever is on Battleworld when Doctor Doom creates it probably won't remember anything from before, since that is how it works in the comics. Those on a life raft did remember, and I think the Void will basically be that life raft. So it is very important.

Agatha All Along matters because of Billy and his connection to Wanda

This was a surprisingly great show to me, and I really liked it. To be honest, I am not sure if the list includes it because of Agatha or because of Billy, since no context is given. I would like Agatha to return at some point, and I think the supernatural side of the MCU would be perfect for her, but that is after Secret Wars.

The Young Avengers are going to play a small role in Doomsday and a big role in Secret Wars. Billy, or Wiccan, one of the sons of the Scarlet Witch, is one of the main characters of Agatha All Along. To learn about him and his connection to Wanda, you should see it, because it looks like that will come into play in Doomsday and even more in Secret Wars.

Captain America 4 and Thunderbolts set up who leads the Avengers

We did not quite know who was on that team, but he was leading it. I wouldn't be surprised if his team combines with the Thunderbolts and he becomes the leader, or co leader with Yelena or Bucky, of the overall Avengers team. When everyone comes together, he is going to be one of the leaders.

The same goes for Thunderbolts. You kind of have to know what happened there, and the post credit scene is really important too.

Ironheart may be about the character, Mephisto, or both

I was actually surprised to see this one. I don't know if it implies Ironheart herself will be in Doomsday. She could be part of the Young Avengers, maybe, which means she could also be in Secret Wars. I am also curious whether this is about Mephisto. We know Marvel has big plans for him, and Doctor Doom is going to have people behind him.

There is a big connection between Mephisto and Doctor Doom, though not a good one. I wouldn't say Doom likes Mephisto; I would say the opposite, since Mephisto literally holds his mother in hell. But there is a connection. It could be Ironheart, it could be Mephisto, it could be both.

Fantastic Four: First Steps is essential, down to Franklin Richards

You obviously have to see this one. You need to know who the Fantastic Four are and their new, specific dynamic. The post credit scene was the last thing we got, and it shows us Doom without his face, just the cloak and the mask. You also have to know about Franklin Richards, because he is going to play a big role in Doomsday and Secret Wars.

Wonder Man's place suggests he might appear

This one is surprising, but I am not fighting it. I think it could really only imply that Wonder Man himself might appear in Doomsday, and since it is on the list, it seems like he will. I was pleasantly surprised by that show. I don't think the DODC will play too big a role in Doomsday, though it will in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. So that probably means Wonder Man plays a role in Doomsday, maybe not a huge one.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, though its characters may not be in Doomsday

This one is a given, but what is interesting is that I don't think you will see any of its characters in Doomsday. Based on what we knew, Spider-Man, the Hulk and Sadie Sink's character, who I do believe is Jean Grey, are not appearing in Doomsday. We have confirmation that Sadie Sink is appearing in Secret Wars, leaked concept art shows the Hulk in Secret Wars, and we have heard the three Spider-Men will reunite there, but nothing about these characters in Doomsday.

I do believe Brand New Day happens at the same time as Doomsday. Maybe its post credit scene has something to do with Doomsday, or maybe the ending shows them on Battleworld and jumps forward a little. I am unsure, but I assume if you are there for Doomsday, you are going to be there for Brand New Day.

Vision Quest brings back Ultron and Vision

I am really curious about this one, because Ultron returns. I wonder if he will be a villain in Doomsday following Doom, or in Secret Wars, maybe as a baron over a territory. Vision is returning in it, and we have seen Secret Wars concept art of Vision with Star-Lord, which I am dying to know more about because it looks like it will be pretty funny.

The Fox X-Men films and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy close the list

The final entries have a soft spot in my heart. There is X-Men 2, not X-Men 1, and X-Men: The Last Stand, which is a big one. I think you need these for the relationship between Magneto and Professor X, for the introduction of some of these characters and for the Phoenix, Jean Grey, which might be important.

Then there is Days of Future Past, which I think will be really big. I think that film created a new timeline. The X-Men are basically the same but a little different, because they changed the past to create a new future, and those are the X-Men I think we will see in Doomsday. I think they are the ones we saw in the teaser trailer.

Last but not least is Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 1 through 3, Tobey Maguire's movies. I cannot wait to see Tobey return. It is said he will have a scene at the beginning of Doomsday, which sounds pretty quick, and then a major role in Secret Wars with the three Spider-Men reuniting. Think about it: Tobey Maguire on screen with Hugh Jackman, fighting and then coming together to fight side by side. At least that is what the reports say.

My advice is to rewatch almost everything

This is the list of what is apparently obligatory to get the most out of Avengers: Doomsday. In all honesty, to get the most out of it, you should probably just see almost everything. Perhaps not everything will be compiled into Doomsday, but based on Lewis Pullman's interview, it sounds like each character will get some spotlight in some way, shape or form. So I would definitely say go through this list, and if you are up for it, rewatch everything, knocking a few out each month.

Which movie on this list is your favorite, and what are you looking forward to most in Avengers: Doomsday?
