Avengers: Doomsday Report Points to Scarlet Witch Granting Doctor Doom Power
An insider's Q&A and a detail in leaked Secret Wars concept art suggest Wanda's crown could be how Doom builds Battleworld
A report from Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus points to the Scarlet Witch being the one who gives Doctor Doom a key ability in Avengers: Doomsday. I think a detail in the leaked Avengers: Secret Wars concept art might show exactly how that works. The report makes a lot of sense to me as an explanation of how Doom and Wanda are connected, and of how he creates Battleworld and controls everybody on it. Some fans of the Scarlet Witch might not be too happy, though, especially if you weren't happy that she was a villain in Multiverse of Madness.
Later in this piece I'll get to Doom's mask in that concept art. I think it carries a pretty big Easter egg.
Alex Perez says the Scarlet Witch may appear in Doomsday, but probably not as Elizabeth Olsen
Alex Perez did a Q&A, and apparently he knows a lot about the movie, because he's been talking about some key points of it. One fan asked whether the Scarlet Witch would return, and whether that would be in Doomsday or in Secret Wars, since there seemed to be a lot of confusion.
Alex said there's evidence pointing to the Scarlet Witch being in Doomsday, but that he couldn't reveal too much because of his source. He added that "even if you see her in the film, chances are it isn't Lizzie Olsen." His explanation was that most of the time they filmed with stunt doubles who don't speak and who wear masks. He called that a cheeky way to film a lot of characters who aren't confirmed yet but are in the movie, mainly as part of Doom's followers.
I don't really like this. If the Scarlet Witch is going to be in the film, I'd rather she have a decent story and that it actually be Elizabeth Olsen filming all the scenes.
I think Doom's masked followers could be revealed as heroes like Doctor Strange
There's a very particular reason she could be a masked follower of Doctor Doom. We're also hearing that Doctor Strange is going to be one of those followers, and so is Clea.
This is just my guess based on what we've heard, but I think there's going to be a pretty big reveal at some point in Avengers: Doomsday. After Doom is revealed as the villain and shown to have all of these followers, I think they're going to take off their masks, and it will turn out that his followers are some of the heroes. Audiences won't know Clea, but the Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange were supposed to be good and on the side of the Avengers. They wouldn't be just any people, either, but the strongest. Doctor Strange and the Scarlet Witch are two of the strongest characters in the MCU, and the Scarlet Witch might be the strongest of all, except for Doom when he comes into play.
The report says Doom does something only two others in the MCU have done
It looks like Doom is going to get a little bit of her power, and it looks like she might actually just kind of give it to him. The next part of Alex's answer said there is something plot-wise that Doom does in the movie that only two other people in the MCU have done up until now, and that "it points to Wanda being the one to grant him this ability."
People have been trying to guess what this is online. The consensus, and what I immediately thought as well, is reality warping powers or chaos magic. If Wanda is the one who grants him the ability, that fits. As for the two people who have done it, I would say Wanda and her son, Billy, also known as Wiccan. Those are the only two who have really used chaos magic in the MCU, and it seems like she would kind of have to enable him to use it.
Doom's mask in the leaked Secret Wars art may carry Wanda's crown
Alex closed by saying that anyone who wants evidence that Wanda is in the movie should look no further than leaked concept art, and to look closely. "Crowns come in all shapes, sizes, and colors," he said, listing blue, red, purple and green.
Look at Wanda's crown, and at the shape in the middle of it. Then look at the leaked Secret Wars concept art of Doctor Doom sitting on his throne, specifically the top part of his mask where it meets the nose and goes over the eyes. That shape looks an awful lot like Wanda's crown. So I think she gives him some of her power, some of her chaos magic, and he infuses it into his mask.
We've already seen other Doomsday concept art where Doom has emblems that seemingly show Thor's hammer and Captain Marvel's star. That might be him fusing other powers into his suit as well. I think that's going to be a common theme for him: he takes powers and infuses them into the metal of his suit, which could be vibranium or adamantium. We don't know yet. We don't know much about his suit, or much about Doctor Doom in general. But this really does look like the crown is infused into the top of his mask.
Battleworld could be a medieval version of Westview
Reportedly, this is how Doom will be able to create Battleworld, and also reportedly how he'll be able to kind of control everybody in Secret Wars. Asked whether any new Guardians of the Galaxy members would appear in Secret Wars, Alex said he really didn't think so unless they're part of Doom's court. Aside from a literal handful of heroes and villains, he said, practically everyone will be under Doom's control, "living in a more medieval version of what Wanda did in Westview." He described the introductory premise of Secret Wars as WandaVision meets What If The Avengers assembled in 1602.
So I think Doom uses the reality warping powers and chaos magic that Wanda has, infused into him, to literally create Battleworld, and then basically does a WandaVision Westview with everyone on it. They're under his control. Then it's up to the remaining Avengers who weren't on Battleworld when it was created to wake up and wake everybody else up as well.
Cassie Lang and the quantum realm could act as a life raft
Kathryn Newton shared on Instagram, with a little tiny chair, that she's officially in Avengers: Doomsday. She was cast forever ago, but that was her official announcement. We had heard before that she's going to be an incredibly important character, because at the end of the film, with the universes and the multiverse about to be destroyed, she's going to take some people into the quantum realm. People in the quantum realm when Battleworld is created wouldn't be under Doom's control, or under the chaos magic he has thanks to the Scarlet Witch.
I also wouldn't be surprised if some people go to the Void. There will be some TVA members and Loki, and they could decide it's the only way to survive by getting outside of the multiverse. I also think the Watcher could grab some people and take them into the fifth dimension. There are many ways for teams to be outside the multiverse and Battleworld, but anybody on Battleworld would be under Doom's full control, so there's probably only going to be a couple of handfuls of heroes who aren't.
This is basically Marvel's way of doing the life rafts from the Secret Wars comics, where the people on the two life rafts remember what happened before and nobody else on Battleworld does. That's why Cassie Lang is supposed to be so important. It makes you wonder what happens to Ant-Man. Maybe he's there, maybe he's not. One leak I covered previously said people who die in Doomsday get resurrected by Doom in Secret Wars, so we'll have to wait and see. It's supposed to be a very dark movie, and I wouldn't be surprised if people really do die permanently, especially because Secret Wars is supposed to be the soft reboot of the MCU.
Why I think Wanda might willingly give Doom her power
Some fans might not be happy because it seems like Wanda is willingly giving Doom some of her powers, with Doctor Strange following as well. This might be something along the lines of Strange telling Wanda that what they did, the dream walking and going to different universes, is causing the destruction of the multiverse, and that this is the only way to make it right.
I also think they're going to play it off like the other heroes have done bad things too and aren't innocent. For example, Steve Rogers staying back in time created an incursion that caused the death of Doom's family. So Doom is trying to make everything right, and Wanda, wanting to redeem herself after WandaVision and Multiverse of Madness, gives some of her powers to Doom via her crown. It's going to seem like she's bad, but I think in her heart she's doing what she believes is right.
Ultimately, in Secret Wars, they'll have to knock that crown off Doom and wake everybody up, and I think the Scarlet Witch turns good and goes against him in a pretty crazy battle. This is reportedly what goes down kind of at the end of Doomsday, and I actually really like it. It makes sense, and it ties into WandaVision. I also think Doom will take other people's powers, but this way he isn't physically draining the Scarlet Witch. She's willingly giving it to him, and I think that means she can get it back.
Does this explanation for Battleworld work for you, or not?
