Avengers: Doomsday SDCC Trailer Described: Doom's Lost Family, a Wounded Magneto and Thor Seemingly Flicked Aside

The Hall H trailer that was pulled offline reveals Sue Storm narrating Doom's tragedy, the heroes gathered in the Baxter Building and a two finger stop of Stormbreaker

The new Avengers: Doomsday trailer that Marvel Studios showed in its Hall H panel at San Diego Comic Con was a lot more intense, it hit a lot harder, and it revealed a lot. It framed Doctor Doom as a broken man who lost his wife and son, it put Sue Storm at the centre as narrator, and it ended with Doom stopping Thor's Stormbreaker with two fingers.

This was a proper trailer, not just a clip. It had the opening Marvel Studios logo and closed on the Avengers Doomsday logo with the classic theme. I saw it twice: once from one person who sent it to me, and once in a copy that leaked online. It had already been taken down everywhere, so all I can do is describe it. There were a lot of details we missed on the night of the panel that I now know, and even reading my notes back, it hits so much harder. I honestly don't know why they didn't lead with this one.

Sue Storm narrates Doom's fall from the smartest guy in the room

The trailer opens on Doom on his throne, with the floor glowing green. Sue Storm narrates, and she is speaking to everybody: the Avengers, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, all gathered in the Baxter Building. Her first line is that Victor was always the smartest guy in the room, and that he used to be different. Then it cuts to the Marvel Studios logo, all white with a lot of green glowing behind it, very much in the style of Doctor Doom.

Back with Sue, she says he used to be kind and he used to be caring. We then cut to the Fantastic Four's headquarters, which is presumably still in the Baxter Building.

The leaked Magneto image was real, sling and all

As Sue speaks, we see Magneto, and the leaked image I covered a couple of days before the panel turned out to be real. His arm is literally in a sling, wrapped up and clearly hurt. He wears an amazing outfit and has long, silvery white hair. There were a lot of leaks around this film, and that scene was one of the genuine ones.

Next is Gambit. He is looking at something, and it looks like he is looking at Mjolnir, matching another of those leaked photos. Then Steve Rogers looks up before lowering his head, seeming a little defeated. That is most likely because he kind of caused this situation with Doom, which I come back to below.

Doom stares at a giant mural of the wife and son he lost

Doom stands before a massive mural, something like ten times bigger than him, maybe even fifteen. It sits in a grand castle that is obviously going to be Doom's castle, and it looks massive. Sue says everything he loved was taken from him.

We get a very close look at Doom's mask. Nothing covers the eye holes, so you see his eyes through the openings, and you see them actually move. He is staring at the part of the mural showing a woman and a child: his wife and son, who were killed. Sue makes that very obvious. He blames Steve Rogers for this.

Then comes Sue's line: "I knew he was lost, but I did not realize that he was broken." That really implies Sue and Doom have a pretty tight relationship, and that Doom knows the Fantastic Four very well. That is why he appears to them in the post credits scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and it makes a lot of sense now.

Thor looks defeated, which supports my theory about his speech

We then see Shang-Chi and John Walker, with what looks like Red Guardian and another person behind him, though it is blurry in both copies I saw. Thor stares at the ground with his chin in his hand. He looks a little defeated, and you can tell he has already lost to Doom.

That fits the first trailer and the speech Thor gives there. I know some people think Thor isn't talking about Doom in that speech but about the incursions. I could be wrong, and it could be about the incursions, but I think the whole speech takes place after they fight Doom. It has to be that way because they know he is the villain by then, and they don't know that for the first part of the movie. From what we know, it sounds like they don't learn it until the big X-Men scene.

So I don't believe this is at the Avengers Tower. It comes after they fight Doom, and it is in the Baxter Building.

Reed confronts Victor, and Doom opens his eyes looking sad

The camera spins and we get an amazing look at Doctor Doom with his full hood on, cued to crazy intense music. It is heavy and it hits hard. Reed goes up to Victor and asks, "Victor, did you do this?"

A close up frames only Doom's eyes. They are closed, then he opens them slowly, and he looks a bit sad, as if he did it because of all the pain. Then we see Ant-Man with his daughter Cassie, and what looks to be Steve with Peggy, though that shot is very blurry and hard to make out. Professor X looks out a window, and then Magneto, helmet on with long white hair flowing out of it, looks to the sky. Magneto looks terrified.

"All of you have lived stolen lives" points straight at Steve Rogers

Doom says, "All of you have lived stolen lives." It cuts to Steve Rogers holding his baby, from the first Avengers: Doomsday teaser that came out over six months earlier, then to Thor with his daughter Love, then to Loki.

Cutting to Steve on that line further backs up the idea that Steve is responsible for the incursion that ultimately led to the death of Doom's family. The incursion itself hasn't happened yet, but we have heard that Doom was building some kind of device to stop it, and that it went wrong, exploded and killed his family. That is probably why it cuts to Steve here.

Another shot seems to show Ghost and Shuri with someone else who is really hard to make out. Then Cyclops is down on one knee, looking at the ground before looking up, with fire in the background and Sentinels stepping behind him. It looks insane, and comic accurate Cyclops looks the best on screen.

Doom stops Stormbreaker with two fingers

Doom continues that they must now give those lives back. He comes flying out of the sky and lands in a classic superhero pose, one knee down and a hand on the ground. It cuts to Reed grabbing Doom by the collar and yelling, "Did you do this?"

Thor lands the same way he does in the first trailer. Stormbreaker fires up, he walks toward Doom, delivers a threat, and leaps at him, bringing Stormbreaker down. Doom stops him with two fingers. Thor struggles and yells, and then Doom seems to just flick him away, sending him flying across the field. Doom raises the Sentinels and says, "Hell answers to me. I am Doom." I got literal chills just thinking about it.

What this trailer reveals about Doom, Reed and Sue

It is quite revealing, and maybe that is why Marvel didn't start with it. It shows things we really want to know, like the relationship between Doctor Doom and the Fantastic Four. It clearly establishes that he was close with them, and it seems he was insanely close with Sue. That probably means he maybe went to college with Reed Richards, as in the comics, which I really think they need to keep. Reed and Victor clearly have a relationship, given that Reed walks up and grabs him.

Reed asking "Did you do this?" also confirms that the Avengers don't know Doom is the villain for a decent amount of the movie. Probably at least a quarter of the way in, and I would say maybe 40 percent in, they find out.

My theory: Doom blames the heroes for a dying multiverse

This is most likely tied to the coming incursion. Doom started to learn about the multiverse and tried to build a machine to stop it. It didn't work, and his wife and son were killed. Maybe he travelled the multiverse looking for a way to bring them back, and maybe he ultimately realised the multiverse is going down because of these heroes. Doctor Strange caused a lot of incursions. Spider-Man had everything we saw in No Way Home. Who knows what happened in Deadpool and Wolverine. And of course there is everything with Steve Rogers.

So Doom probably decides the multiverse is going to die and that he needs to save it by making it one universe his way, because he is the smartest man alive. We know Reed holds that title, but Sue says Victor was the smartest guy in the room. It sounds like she might think Doom is smarter than Reed. We all know Reed is supposed to be smarter, but we will see. Sue also knows he lost his family. A lot of holes get filled in here in a really good way.

It could have been the biggest trailer of all time

If Marvel had started with this trailer and announced it the day before, as they did for Spider-Man, I think it probably would have been the biggest trailer of all time. As it stood, Spider-Man broke the record and remained king, and who knew what the next one would do. All I know is that this left me massively more excited for Avengers: Doomsday.

Do you think Thor's speech from the first trailer comes after the heroes lose to Doom, or is he talking about the incursions?
