The Void From Loki May Be Marvel's Battleworld for Avengers: Secret Wars

Cassandra Nova's threat in Deadpool & Wolverine, the 2015 comics and the MCU's incursions all point to one theory about how Doctor Doom comes to rule

I think Marvel Studios has already revealed what it plans to do for Battleworld in Avengers: Secret Wars, and my theory is that the void will be Battleworld. It will be very similar to the comics but also a little bit different, which is pretty normal, since the MCU never completely adapts the comics page for page on screen.

Marvel announced that Doctor Doom would be the main villain of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, with Robert Downey Jr. playing Doom. Fans were really excited, or at the very least very interested, in what would happen. That announcement gave a lot of clarity on what to expect from the story of both films. Marvel also confirmed that the Fantastic Four would be in both of those Avengers films, and of course the Avengers will be in them too. So it seemed like we kind of knew how things were shaping up, and it looked like Marvel was going the Battleworld route. Based on what Marvel had already shown in the MCU and the little build ups it had started, the way I think it will handle the story simply makes the most sense.

Cassandra Nova's threat in Deadpool & Wolverine points to the void

I believe Marvel Studios revealed its plans for Battleworld in Deadpool & Wolverine. I'm not going into spoilers for the movie here. If you saw the trailers, which I'm assuming practically everybody did even without seeing the film, you know that Cassandra Nova, the evil twin sister of Charles Xavier, is the villain. In the movie, she is the ruler of the void.

Since we are in the Multiverse Saga, and the big threats recently tend to threaten the multiverse, that's exactly what Cassandra Nova is as well: a villain who threatens the entire multiverse. That comes as no surprise, since it's a typical Marvel villain at this point. But there is one specific thing she says about what she wants to do. She threatens the multiverse and says she'll kill every universe until there's nothing left but the void. I think that is exactly what Marvel Studios is going to do for Battleworld, with the void being Battleworld.

Doctor Doom's Battleworld in the 2015 Secret Wars mirrors the void

Everybody expects the Secret Wars film to take from both Secret Wars stories in the comics. Based on story points we have already heard in the MCU, like incursions, we are expecting a good amount of the story to come from the 2015 version. This is where a big connection between Doctor Doom and the void comes into play.

In the 2015 Secret Wars, Doctor Doom becomes very, very powerful. He gets the powers of the Beyonders, but he does it in an attempt to save the multiverse. The Beyonders used Molecule Man, a Nexus being who is the same in every single universe, as a bomb. Since he is the same in every universe, he is a bomb in every universe. Doctor Doom and a variant of Molecule Man were unsuccessful, but in the process the bombs ended up killing the Beyonders, and Doom was able to absorb their powers.

Doom then used his new godlike abilities to salvage what remained of the shattered multiverse. He created Battleworld and ruled it like a god, as God Emperor Doom. Battleworld was made of a bunch of different realities fused together, which, if you think about it, is the void. The void is literally the remnants, the leftovers, of the multiverse. We learned in Loki season 1 that when things get pruned, some of what's left over goes to the void. Then Cassandra Nova said she was going to kill every universe in the multiverse until all that's left is the void. To me, that is super foreshadowing.

Incursions suggest the multiverse is headed for destruction

Right now the story in the MCU is that there's a multiverse with infinite universes and infinite variants, but incursions have already begun to happen. Some universes, like Earth-838, are very aware of how big a threat incursions are to the entire multiverse.

That's kind of what happens in Secret Wars. The first incursion creates a domino effect: one universe hits another, which causes that universe to hit another, and so on. So it seems inevitable that no matter what happens in the MCU, the multiverse will eventually be destroyed. And if Battleworld is a place where the survivors and remnants of the whole multiverse exist, we already have that. That is the void.

How everybody comes to be in the void is going to be quite interesting, and I believe that's how we will actually get an Avengers vs. X-Men. I'm not talking about a film titled Avengers vs. X-Men; it seems very clear at this point we are not getting that. But I do believe that at some point the Avengers will fight the X-Men, and it's probably because their two worlds are colliding with each other.

The Marvels set up an X-Men universe that could collide with the Avengers

In the comics, when an incursion starts to happen, there is basically only one way to prevent your world from being destroyed, and that is to destroy the other world. That stops it from colliding with yours and saves your world. The bad side is that the other world and billions of people die.

We had already been introduced to a few universes in the MCU, but there is one we really hadn't come in contact with that we know we'll have to eventually, because Marvel set it up in a really big way in the scene after the credits of The Marvels. Monica Rambeau ended up in a different universe, seemingly one where the X-Men are, because we saw Beast and he mentioned Professor X. According to some insiders, Captain Marvel in the MCU is focused on finding out where Monica went.

We also know, thanks to the ending of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness where Clea shows up, that incursions have begun. The Illuminati explained that the other Doctor Strange caused an incursion and the death of a universe. If Marvel goes by the same logic and rules as Secret Wars in the comics, that should set off a big chain of incursions throughout the entire multiverse until it's all destroyed, and until everybody might end up in the void, a void in which Doctor Doom rules.

Kang may be how Doctor Doom gets his power

So how could that happen? This is where I think Kang comes in, and possibly a Doctor Doom Iron Man suit, if this version of Doom is indeed a Tony Stark variant. In both Secret Wars stories in the comics, Doom takes the power of the Beyonder or the Beyonders, which makes him incredibly powerful, kind of unmatched. In the MCU, instead of the Beyonder, I think they might use Kang, and that's how Doom comes to power.

Loki season 1 made it very clear that He Who Remains had control over Alioth and the void. Kang has no superpowers whatsoever; he is a human. So if Kang can figure out how to control Alioth, a Doom variant with Kang's technology could probably do the same. It has also been said for a pretty long time that there was going to be a variant of Kang who was kind of the Beyonder as well.

Even after the announcement that Robert Downey Jr. would play Doom, several insiders stated that Kang would still have a very small role in the MCU. I believe that role is simply there so Doom can take his powers. If Kang is indeed a Beyonder variant, Doom would get incredible godlike powers along with Kang's technology, which would make it very easy for him to rule the void, which in this sense would be Battleworld.

Reed Richards and a soft reboot could end Secret Wars

There has to be an end to Secret Wars, and that's where the Fantastic Four and Reed Richards come in. In both Secret Wars stories, Doom eventually has the power of the Beyonder stripped from him. In the 1984 run, with the help of Captain America, the Beyonder takes his powers back. In the 2015 Secret Wars, Molecule Man transfers Doom's Beyonder powers to Reed Richards. That's how they defeat Doom, and Reed then uses the power to rebuild the entire multiverse.

For the most part, everything returns to normal, with a few exceptions, like Miles Morales being in another universe, along with little changes like that from then on. I'm assuming that's what we are in for in the MCU, especially since we had been hearing about a soft reboot for a while. That's the perfect opportunity for it: they restore the multiverse, except it's kind of different, not 100% the same. From there, we'd have a universe where everyone exists together, the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and so on. Honestly, if this is how it all happens, it sounds like an extremely good plan.

Marvel may have been setting up the void as Battleworld since Loki season 1

I believe Marvel Studios has been setting up the void to be Battleworld for some time. I think it's been doing this since Loki season 1, when Kevin Feige realized he wanted to do Secret Wars and at the time wanted Kang to be the main villain. Then I think Marvel reiterated it in a very big way in Deadpool & Wolverine, when Cassandra Nova said nothing would be left of the multiverse except the void.

So we already know what happens when the multiverse ends: only the void will be left. It seems like Marvel Studios basically already told us what Battleworld is going to be in the MCU, and the best part is that it makes sense. Maybe you wanted Doctor Doom to create an actual Battleworld; I get that, and that could very well happen. But it seems like the MCU's continuity at the time was leading to the void being Battleworld. That's just my theory.

Would you rather see the void become Battleworld, or have Doctor Doom build an entirely new one?
