Scarlet Witch Was Rumoured to Return in Avengers: Doomsday as Magneto's Daughter From the X-Men Universe
A report from Alex Perez suggested Elizabeth Olsen could come back as a Wanda variant from a world where Magneto rules Genosha, and that she would not be recast after Secret Wars.
In September 2025 a new report suggested the Scarlet Witch could be returning to the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday, but not as the Wanda we last saw. According to scooper Alex Perez, Elizabeth Olsen would reportedly be back as a Wanda variant from the X-Men universe, a world where Magneto rules Genosha with his children at his side.
This is not the way many people might have expected her to return, but I think it could actually be a lot better for the character and for the overall story in Avengers: Doomsday. A lot of people were already praising the report and hoping it came true. An article from The Direct was headlined, "Scarlet Witch's Avengers Doomsday return sounds genius, but will be the end of an era for her MCU journey." The piece was labelled as a rumour, with a subtitle noting that Elizabeth Olsen's appearance might make some big changes. If this does happen in the film, then yes, it makes some really big changes. But it does get her back in the MCU.
Alex Perez heard Wanda would come from a universe where Magneto rules Genosha
Up to this point we had heard very little about the Scarlet Witch in Doomsday. When the Russo brothers, who were directing Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, were asked if Elizabeth Olsen would return as the Scarlet Witch, they answered, "We shall see." Our usual insiders had not really said anything about her either, until now.
In a Q&A on The Cosmic Circus Discord, Alex Perez shared some tidbits about what he had heard, and he said it was in an unofficial capacity. He said, "I heard we'd be getting a Wanda variant from the X-Men universe that we'll see in Avengers Doomsday." In that universe, Magneto is finally ruling Genosha as he had always pictured it. The picture described was something like a royal family, with Erik, Pietro, Wanda and Polaris. So she would reportedly be returning in the X-Men universe rather than the main 616 universe, which I know might come as a shock to some people.
For those who are not familiar with the comics, they have gone back and forth on this. But in some stories, Magneto is the biological father of the Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and his daughter Polaris. We see that in the X-Men animated series as well.
Marvel reportedly considered making Magneto Wanda's father in Multiverse of Madness
What is really interesting is that we heard Magneto was supposed to appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, in the 838 universe. Much like another actor was almost going to play a character in that film, we were also supposed to get Magneto, and in that storyline he was going to be the father of Wanda in that universe.
The story they were going to go with was pretty dark. It originally went along the lines of Magneto and Professor X realising that Wanda was going to become too powerful, so they essentially lobotomise her, turning her into a normal person without any real powers. It was originally supposed to be a horror movie, and it would have been incredibly cool to see Magneto in that universe, especially as the Scarlet Witch's father. I guess they decided it did not add much to the story. But it shows the idea of Magneto as her biological father was on Marvel's mind.
I still maintain that killing off Quicksilver in Age of Ultron was a big mistake. Going into a new X-Men universe where Magneto rules Genosha with his kids could bring back Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch and even Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Quicksilver.
The Magneto family idea came close in Deadpool & Wolverine and Doctor Strange 2
Alex Perez also said this idea had been pushed since Multiverse of Madness and then Deadpool & Wolverine, but it never felt like the right fit because it seemed to take away from the overall plot. According to Perez, the main thing they would like to explore with Wanda is her relationship with her father, Erik, also known as Magneto.
In Deadpool & Wolverine, Magneto was mentioned, and the film even showed a statue of the Scarlet Witch, so we almost had it then too. Add to that the producer of Doctor Strange 2 saying that more mutants could have appeared in that movie, but they felt it might have distracted from the experience. We had come close a couple of times.
It looked like Avengers: Doomsday might be the movie where they finally pulled the trigger, which makes sense because the film goes to a new universe where the X-Men are, and Sir Ian McKellen was already confirmed for Doomsday. He got a chair alongside Patrick Stewart. So even if this is not how a lot of people pictured the Scarlet Witch returning, it is definitely a creative way she could come back.
Perez reported Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda would not be recast after Secret Wars
This could change her entire future in the MCU. According to the same source, Alex Perez of The Cosmic Circus, Wanda was not going to be recast after Avengers: Secret Wars. Basically, she would survive the reset, as Kevin Feige calls it, and Elizabeth Olsen would continue to play the Scarlet Witch, if the report is true.
A scene was also filmed at a particular location for the X-Men, which was confirmed. I had theorised before that this could be where Magneto lives, because we heard a report in the past that Magneto is kind of the leader of the X-Men. If he is finally ruling Genosha, it all lines up.
So what would that mean after the reset? I don't think Sir Ian McKellen is going to play Magneto in the new X-Men franchise after Secret Wars, so the Scarlet Witch would be connected to a different Magneto. If the reset works the way we think, history will essentially be rewritten for most people. Those who don't remember the multiverse and the universes they came from will only remember the new universe, as if it were the only one they had ever lived in, and the actual history of that universe will be rewritten too. This Wanda would still be Magneto's daughter, but not the daughter of the McKellen version we would see in Doomsday and Secret Wars.
A clean slate could bring back Quicksilver, Vision and a real House of M
Some people might not like that it is not the exact same Wanda from Multiverse of Madness, but it does give her a clean slate in the new MCU. A lot of people didn't really like what Marvel did with the Scarlet Witch in that film, and based on some things she has said, Elizabeth Olsen seems to be one of them. A fresh start with a new story could be really exciting for her and for a lot of fans, especially those who want to see her as Magneto's daughter.
This could also bring back Quicksilver, which I totally think they need to do. Again, I think it was a terrible decision to kill him off in Age of Ultron. With history rewritten, we could get a new Vision, or the old one could return. He could still be played by Paul Bettany if they want that and he wants that, and they could do the whole love story over again.
Then they could do a real House of M, which I would love to see on screen, including that famous "no more mutants" line, now that the new X-Men are coming to the MCU. Ultimately, I think the future is bright for the Scarlet Witch if this is what they decide to do.
The Russo brothers' new story may have changed Marvel's plans for Wanda
It also means we could see multiple Scarlet Witches in Avengers: Doomsday. It depends on what Marvel Studios' plans are and whether they have changed. Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, did hint before that Wanda is alive, and I have always thought she is alive. But that was before Marvel kind of changed everything by bringing back Robert Downey Jr. to play Doctor Doom and bringing back the Russo brothers with their own story.
Remember, the Doomsday story was not Marvel's idea. Robert Downey Jr. asked the Russo brothers to return, and they said no for a year, until they had the perfect story. So this is their story with Stephen McFeely, not what Marvel had planned before, and those plans probably changed quite a bit. Before, the plan was probably to bring the Scarlet Witch back in some way, since she didn't really die in Multiverse of Madness, but who knows what the plan is now.
They could simply say she died and bring back Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch from the X-Men universe. Or, since variants exist in the Multiverse Saga, they could have both. However, since Wanda has been shown as basically the strongest character we have seen in the MCU so far, they might decide to keep her out of it because she's so strong.
Doom could take the Scarlet Witch's powers to become God Emperor Doom
On the other hand, they could still go with the rumour we heard that Doom perhaps revives her using the powers of Franklin Richards, who we have now seen in the MCU and who can indeed do that. Perhaps Doom then takes her powers, and that is how he becomes God Emperor Doom. I would totally be okay with that, because I think it would be a really great story.
Doom does have to get godlike powers from someone or something. The Beyonders probably won't be in this film; we haven't heard anything about them, or even about a single Beyonder. But they have shown us how strong the Scarlet Witch is, so Doom taking her powers, combined with his own sorcery and his tech, would be enough for him to become a god. I kind of want to see that happen.
If the Scarlet Witch returned from the X-Men universe as the daughter of Magneto, would you like it or not?
