The Movie Couple React to Avengers: Doomsday, Vision Quest and Ahsoka Season 2 Trailers From D23

We finally sat down with the three trailers that dropped at D23, and here is everything we noticed and theorized about Doom, White Vision and Ahsoka's return.

We could not make it to D23 in person, but we could not wait to react to the three trailers that came out of the event, the special look at Avengers: Doomsday, the long delayed Vision Quest teaser, and the first footage from Ahsoka season 2. This matters to us because these are three of the projects we have been most curious about in Marvel and Star Wars, and we wanted to break down every detail we caught on a rewatch.

We are also planning a separate live stream to cover all of the other film, television and theme park announcements from D23, so this reaction was strictly about these three trailers.

Avengers Doomsday special look opens on Doom's throne room and closes with RDJ declaring "I am doom"

The footage opens right on Doom in what we described as his throne room, with green energy rising from the floor. We caught lines like "everything he loved was taken from him" and "he was broke," which pointed to a version of Victor Von Doom who, as we put it, "used to be different" and even "used to be nice." A Reed Richards line, "did you do this?", stood out to us, along with references to "stolen lives" and what sounded like "borrowed lives."

We spent time on Robert Downey Jr.'s voice work, agreeing he "sounds great as Doom" thanks to an unrecognizable cadence, though we debated whether his eyes looked green in the footage since RDJ's real eyes are brown, guessing he was given contacts for the role. We said we hope Marvel never unmasks him in this role so audiences are never tempted to ask whether this is secretly Tony Stark, since RDJ is famous enough that he does not need a face reveal to sell the character.

On the "borrowed lives" line, our theory was that it connects to Secret Wars and the multiverse, floating the idea that Doom might be telling variants that the timeline has to be trimmed and some versions of characters will be cut. We flagged that we are not deeply familiar with the original Secret Wars comics, so we were speculating rather than confirming anything. We also wondered aloud whether Doom might have shown kindness specifically to Susan Storm given how she seemed to be the one narrating that part of the trailer to the Avengers, and we questioned what city Reed Richards' line about destruction referred to, comparing it to something like Star Wars' Geonosis. We closed out the section excited about the Sentinels and other X-Men elements sprinkled through the footage.

Vision Quest trailer shows Paul Bettany's White Vision sorting through memories without any real emotion

The Vision Quest teaser opens with a coworker referencing "that red head," which we took as White Vision reliving pieces of his past inside what looks like his own digital mind. A key line that stuck with us was "I have his face, but not his virtue," which we connected to the idea that this Vision has all of the memories of the original but none of the emotions.

We picked up on family themed dialogue, including "family wasn't real," "you sure about that?" and "I had a father called Vision," which we linked to Ultron, noting that in a sense Ultron would be this Vision's grandfather figure given the lineage of the characters. A line about a "genocidal maniac inside your head" reinforced that Ultron connection for us.

We compared the visual concept to WandaVision, noting that where Wanda placed an entire town under her hex, Vision now appears to be doing something similar but contained entirely inside his own head as a kind of simulation to work through who and what he is. We said we would love to rewatch WandaVision right before this releases because of how closely the aesthetic feels tied together.

We admitted some concern that the project has been delayed repeatedly, though we also noted it probably should have come out a few years ago anyway. We hope whoever wrote it brought in someone who worked on WandaVision to keep the continuity of tone and history intact. We guessed Vision Quest will likely be a one off limited series similar to WandaVision rather than something with multiple seasons, and we speculated about whether Vision will appear in Doomsday, noting we do not remember seeing his name attached to the film, while acknowledging Kevin Feige has said there are cast members involved who have not yet been confirmed publicly. We are looking forward to Paul Bettany working opposite James Spader again, joking that between this father son dynamic the show is delivering more of Marvel's signature "daddy issues."

Ahsoka Season 2 trailer brings back Thrawn, teases more Hayden Christensen as Anakin, and hints at a Luke Skywalker showdown

Before watching, we recapped how season 1 ended based on a quick refresher: Thrawn successfully escaped the distant planet of Peridea back to the main Star Wars galaxy, Ezra returned home, and Ahsoka and Sabine were left stranded, alongside loose threads involving Baylan and Shin Hati. We noted the season closed with Anakin's force ghost looking approvingly over Ahsoka and Sabine, and with the reveal of three statues representing the father, the son and the daughter, which we are curious to see explored further.

The season 2 teaser leans heavily on flashbacks, and we reacted to Thrawn's return with his declaration "I have returned" and his line about going to war, first against the Republic and then correcting to the Rebel Alliance. We caught glimpses of "the sisters" and a line about someone claiming "knowledge of a power that could end" something, and we wondered whether the actor who replaced the previous performer as Zeb would be featured.

A major highlight for us was the line "are you a Jedi, or are you not?" followed by Anakin's response "I am no Jedi," which we debated, since we recalled Ahsoka saying a version of that line to Darth Vader in the animated Rebels series, and we were not certain whether it had been said in live action before. We called the Ahsoka versus Vader fight from Rebels "so good and so intense" and said we loved how season 1 teased Anakin turning red and flashing into Vader, hoping season 2 leans into more of that with Hayden Christensen, including the possibility that he eventually dons the full Vader suit on screen.

We are also looking forward to more of Chopper, joking that he is our "favorite war criminal" given his history, and we floated a theory that with Thrawn back, this could be building toward a live action Heir to the Empire storyline featuring Luke Skywalker, since it was Luke who originally went up against Thrawn in that story. We admitted this was just us "geeking out" and putting out what we would want to see, not anything confirmed. Ahsoka season 2 is set to stream January 20 on Disney Plus.

Which of these three D23 trailers has you the most excited, Doomsday, Vision Quest, or Ahsoka season 2?
