Vision Quest debuts with an 88% audience score, among the MCU's best rated shows
The Disney Plus series opens level with WandaVision on the popcorn meter, and James Spader's Ultron is the standout of the first two episodes
Vision Quest has debuted on Disney Plus with an 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. That puts it among the MCU's highest rated TV shows and ahead of several 2026 superhero releases. Having seen the first two episodes, I'm not surprised, because so far it's just a really good show.
The series had a two episode premiere, so fans are now weighing in on the Rotten Tomatoes audience score, which is now known as the popcorn meter.
Vision Quest's 88% matches WandaVision on the popcorn meter
At 88% on the popcorn meter, Vision Quest ranks alongside WandaVision, Hawkeye and Moon Knight. The Moon Knight comparison surprised me. I love Moon Knight, but not a lot of people do. On the critics' side, the show is currently at 82% and Certified Fresh on the Tomatometer.
One report on the score describes Marvel Television as having a bit of a spotty track record: most of its shows have been well received, but some have been outright slammed by unhappy fans. That same report says Vision Quest is not a typical superhero series. It has a unique premise and an offbeat tone that is very much in line with WandaVision and Agatha All Along, shows that weren't necessarily to everyone's liking despite glowing reviews.
Vision Quest beats most of 2026's superhero releases, trailing only Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Against the rest of the 2026 superhero offerings, 88% stacks up well. It places Vision Quest above The Boys season five at 49%, which is rough. Lanterns sits in the high 60s, Supergirl is at 72%, the Punisher release is at 78%, and Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is at 85%.
The only one ahead of it is Spider-Man: Brand New Day at 97%. Across the MCU's TV audience scores, Vision Quest and WandaVision both land at 88%, which is impressive.
I think revisiting Terry Matalas's earlier work before Vision Quest was a great thing to do
My overall take after two episodes is that this show's great. It's really good so far. I think going back to Terry Matalas's earlier work first and then seeing this was a great thing to do. That earlier work shows what he's really capable of, and Vision Quest uses a few of the same cast members.
Even the way the series starts stands out. I'm not going to spoil it, but they could have opened it exactly like WandaVision. You could see the trailer and think maybe they're trying to do WandaVision again, but they're not. They incorporate everything that was going on in that season.
Agatha All Along may not be required viewing for Vision Quest
So far, I don't necessarily know if Agatha is a must watch. I was told it was, but I've only seen two episodes. Maybe as we get deeper into the series, I'll realize you kind of do have to watch Agatha. For now, I think I could have had Sam watch this without it.
James Spader's Ultron is the best part of Vision Quest so far
I really like it, and I think it's clever. James Spader steals the show so far. Two episodes in, Ultron is the best. "He's hilarious. He's maniacal."
I really dug it, and I think it's solid. "It's engaging. It's clever." It also reminds me a little bit of a Matrix type thing, which I really dug. I really like the way they incorporate the entire universe and things for anyone who's been an MCU fan in general. I highly recommend at least the first two episodes.
Do you think Vision Quest's 88% audience score will hold as the season goes on?
