Far From Home: why did Tony give Peter the EDITH glasses?

The How It Should Have Ended parody pokes at Tony Stark's glasses, Mysterio's illusions and a lineup of attractive villains, and leaves us wanting more Batman.

Far From Home: why did Tony give Peter the EDITH glasses?

The How It Should Have Ended spoof of Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), starring Tom Holland and Jake Gyllenhaal, made fun of Mysterio in a way where we still like the movie, the character and Gyllenhaal's performance. It also reminded us how many plot holes the film has.

Tony Stark should never have given Peter Parker the EDITH glasses

We hadn't thought about the fact that Tony shouldn't have given the glasses to Peter at all. Peter is young and goofy, and he makes the same mistakes as any teenager. The only justification we could find for the way he hands them to Gyllenhaal's villain is that he's a kid. Only a kid would make that mistake.

Maybe Tony didn't realize he would die so prematurely and meant to hand the glasses over later. Giving them to Don Cheadle's character makes more sense. Still, it's in character for Tony not to understand that Spider-Man is a child who could make that mistake. He wants what he wants and figures it will work out.

The glasses are the biggest plot hole of all for us. The most state-of-the-art tech, a billion dollar weapon sitting on Peter's head, can't identify a high-risk agent of evil? It reminded us of the Sith wayfinder in The Rise of Skywalker. You have to go with it, because if you start questioning it, it seems dumb.

Mysterio's illusions and the labyrinth scene

We wondered about the illusions too. If everything is a projection, someone could throw a stone and it would go straight through. The flame monster presumably wasn't taking over the whole environment, only projecting onto it. "It is kind of silly but it was a fun movie, I guess. I don't know now that I liked it."

The most realistic moment of being duped was Spider-Man trapped in the labyrinth, our favorite scene in the movie. Having tried Oculus Rift and virtual reality, it makes sense to us: even with nothing there, it messes with your brain. Think about how much astronauts train for space because it's a different reality.

The villain lineup and the Spider-Verse gag

Our favorite part was Mysterio claiming to be the most attractive, and General Zod answering "what about killmonger i mean me." We don't blame him; Killmonger is attractive. The group, with Voldemort and Palpatine, is amazing, and we had forgotten that Heath Ledger and Gyllenhaal made Brokeback Mountain together until they leaned on each other.

The spoof also teased a live action Into the Spider-Verse. We split on the best Spider-Man movie: there was a case for Into the Spider-Verse, and a joking case for No Way Home, with the claim of being part of the multiverse and having already seen it.

Plot holes we can live with, and more Batman

Far From Home sits in a complicated universe, and as you go you try to justify it. Sometimes you like films that don't make sense. We like the Fast and Furious franchise, and we joked that its trip to space makes total sense on a science level, Bill Nye approved.

The other highlight was Batman. Every time we see these spoofs we want more Batman, because we love his voice and how he says "because i'm batman." Batman is arguably the most serious superhero we have, and it can be funny because it's not in the movies, but it is in any sort of spoof.
